Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Human-Shaped God approaches the humanlike accounts of God in the Old Testament as the starting places for theology and uses them to build a picture of the divine. This understanding of God is then brought into conversation with traditional conceptions that depict God as a being who knows everything that happens, is at every place at the same time, is constant and unchanging, and does not ultimately have material form. But instead of pitting the Old Testament's humanlike view of God against traditional theology and assuming that only one of these understandings is correct, A Human-Shaped God posits that theologians should embrace both of these constructions simultaneously. This is a new way of theological inquiry that embraces both the humanlike characteristics of God and the transcendence of God in traditional theology. By seeing and understanding the humanlike depictions of God in the Old Testament and by using the rich language of traditional theology together in tandem, the reader acquires a much deeper and meaningful understanding of God.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Laurie Johnson investigates two Enlightenment-era reactions to honor in Locke and Rousseau. She provides an in-depth analysis of how political philosophers John Locke and Jean-Jacques Rousseau react differently to the place and importance of honor in society. Locke continues the trend of rejecting honor as a means of achieving order and justice in society, preferring instead the modern motivation of rational self-interest. Johnson explores the possibility of an honor code that is compatible with Lockean liberalism, but also points out the problems inherent in such a project. She then turns to Rousseau, whose reaction to Enlightenment ideas reveals our own “divided mood.” Rousseau’s worries and ambivalence about honor are our worries and ambivalence, and his failed attempt to revise honor in a way that works within the modern system highlights how difficult any project to resurrect the value of honor will be. This book will interest anyone who wonders what happened to honor in our world today, including students of communitarianism. Johnson warns us that we cannot simply look to the past, to the ideals of Locke or other Enlightenment thinkers such as the American founders, for answers to our current family, social, and economic problems, because our problems at least partly stem from Enlightenment liberal thought. Instead we must fully recognize this connection before we can start to formulate a definition of honor that can work for us today.

The Bible is fulfilling what God said has come to past. God’s purpose is to defeat Satan. We can choose who we want to serve: God or Satan. For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish, but have everlasting life. God’s purpose enables us to do things that we could not have done if it was not for the Lord. Go out and spread the Word of God: help and love one another, because God knew us when we were in our mother’s womb. He knew from the beginning of time who he was going to use (the Elect) to stand against the anti-Christ (Satan) at the end of time. You can choose to serve God and have eternal life. God’s purpose is unstoppable: different peoples and things will come up against a child of God who is doing God’s will. If you have God on your side He’s God and God all by Himself and NOBODY CAN STOP GOD!
