Book excerpt: How does one heal from unspeakable trauma? Is it even possible? Are there blessings to be found in even the most heinous experiences? Why do some people glide through traumatic life-altering events with no visible scars while others fall victim to depression and addiction? How does a person come out on the other side a stronger and more compassionate person? These are questions that every person asks at some point in his or her life. The answers are not elusive or mysterious only to be answered when we die. There are answers now and productive ways to heal from any experience to learn valuable life lessons that will serve to make you a stronger and more complete soul. “You don’t have a soul. You are a soul. You have a body.” —George MacDonald

The fruit of the Spirit--love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control--aren't just a to-do list. Each one is an attribute to God and each other. These qualities are given to us by God when we accept Him and His Spirit comes to live in us. But they are not gifts we just passively receive. God wants us to join in growing the fruit in our lives by making intentional choices.Named after the "Fruit of the Spirit" children's song by Uncle Charlie. The fruit of the Spirit's not a coconut; the fruit of the Spirit's not a coconut; if you want to be a coconut; you might as well hear it; you can't be a fruit of the spirit; cause the fruit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

Hiding in plain sight with her friend Wes’s family on the drowned planet Earth, Phaet discovers the rugged beauty of the world her ancestors once called home. All her life, she’s been taught to fear the “Earthbound,” and their generosity and kindness surprise and touch Phaet. But when the Lunar Bases attack Wes’s isolated village, Phaet’s past catches up with her, and she’s forced to choose: stay on Earth and fight beside the boy she’s falling for, or stow away on a Moon-bound ship so she can save her brother and sister from the government that killed their mother. This dramatic follow-up to Dove Arising plunges readers deeper into a complex and haunting world where freedom comes at a chilling price.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I was led by the spirit to write this book. On my journey in life, I have had my ups and downs. I remember when I was a young man. I was carefree, did not have a worry in the world. I had my strength and that was all I thought I need. I was strong, like a flower when the sun heats the morning dew. I had the job and all that came with it. I was doing good as a young man. I had been raised in the church as a child, and now I was of age and independent, had my own place, and no one could tell me what to do anymore. I even had the nerve to tell God I was too young to come and serve Him. I had everything a young man could ask for in the palms of my hand. I would go to the parties, stay out late—all the things that young people do. Little did I know what was lying ahead. I started getting hit with the storms of life. I was like a sheep caught in the dark in the forest. It took me years to get back on the track my mom started me on when I was a little child. I have been back on the trail for over thirty years. I know what it is to be in darkness and believe everything is all right. I kept stumbling along in this life in the dark. I really thought I was seeing things clearly. I have a high tolerance for pain, so I stayed in darkness longer than I had anticipated. Life pain was taking a toll on my life. Those things I thought were fun took more pain to have the fun. This life I loved did not love me anymore. One day I saw some people getting out of their car and going up the steps to the church. I said, “Lord, if you would change my life to be like them church folks, I will serve you the rest of my life.” You know, it is said that the deeper that you were in darkness, the more loyal you would be to God. Now I’m in the light. I see with insight, not as much with eyesight over the years. I come to see some things that require our immediate attention. This can’t wait. We have been brought to the light so we can show others how to get to the light, and there is a lot of work to do as a child of God. It is our responsibility to carry out God’s will. We can’t push it on the next person. We have to step up and do it. This book can help people to learn to treat people like they would like to be treated, and it gets you to know about the Lord. You can practice this in your daily life. I’m a new creature. Old things I don’t do any more. I thought that my old behaviors would be with me all my life until I was shown the light. Now I must share the light and show others how to get here.

Germane to this fact, the National Center of Education statistics reported that, in the 2018-19 academic year, of the doctoral degrees awarded to women, only 10.9 percent were awarded to Black women compared to 63.6 percent awarded to White women in the U.S. Black women who are interested in pursuing a doctorate, already in doctoral programs, or in their field of doctoral work are in crucial need of resources, community, and support. For too long, Black women have faced many systemic barriers and various forms of racist exclusion and oppression in educational settings, which has often led to burnout, low sense of belonging, and low retention rates. This memoir, “Our Doctoral Journey: A collection of Black women’s experiences,” serves as a resource and toolkit for Black women doctors, future doctors, and professionals. Prepare yourselves to read transparent and ground-breaking stories from 24 co-authors, ranging from doctoral students to doctors to professionals, who, with great tenacity, have chosen to share their doctoral experiences. Undeniably, this memoir will give you hope, motivation, and determination to choose what is best for you and persist in your program or in your field of work. As the saying goes, “We’re all that we’ve got.”

Suffer No More can help guide you to freedom from addiction and any character defect that identifies you. When we are born, we are born with a sinful nature, and until we find God, there is no freedom from our sinful nature. Unless you believe in Christ as your personal Savior, you will struggle with the issues of sin for the rest of your life. But if you accept Christ as your Savior, you are then set free from your old sinful nature by the power of Jesus. Suffer No More is just to help people see the light from all their darkness and to help people find freedom. Jesus died on the cross for our sins. Jesus paid the penalty. He willingly took on his body all the punishment that we deserved so we wouldnt have to. He died on the cross for all our sins so we could be set free and be made righteousness in God through Christ Jesus, if we are willing to turn our life over to his care. Allow him to do the work in and through you by his Holy Spirit, and I promise you, you will be set free. Do the twelve steps to the best of your ability, and God will do beyond what you could ever dream or imagine. I pray this book will lead many to Christ.

Book excerpt: Like any famous music group, Mary Mary has a significant fan base. While most celebrities' fans would be content knowing their group's favourite colours or fashion designers, the fans of Mary Mary look for more from this groundbreaking duo: they want to know how to live a creative, successful Christian life. In sharing Mary Mary's story, this is as much a guide to life as it is a biography. Many Christians, including musicians and other entertainers, have felt the push to sacrifice their morals or abandon their faith in exchange for commercial success. But legions of Christian fans hunger for artists who have 'made it' without compromising their walks with God. Mary Mary is one such group -- and with a Grammy, a Soul Train Award, and an NAACP Image Award nomination to prove it, they have been enormously successful. This book takes readers along on Erica and Tina Atkins' journey from growing up in Inglewood, California, with gospel-singing parents and six other siblings to singing with secular R&B and soul performers, to putting out platinum-selling Christian albums, all without selling out their beliefs. The sisters share how their faith in Jesus Christ helped them to overcome personal and professional obstacles. This book appeals not only to Christians, but also to anyone who appreciates strong music and a strong sense of integrity.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text is designed for use in college 3rd-4th year Spanish language classes. Each of the fifteen chapters begins with a brief selection in Spanish from a recent Spanish-language publication. Following the reading selection a questionnaire based on the content of the reading material channels the student into using vocabulary employed in the reading. Three topics are then given, suggested by the content of the reading and designed to provoke conversation in class or to serve as themes for compositions. The second part of each chapter is a study of language difficulties often encountered by American students at the junior or senior level of Spanish language study. Each of these sections is based on a word or phrase appearing in the reading. The third section of each chapter is a grammar lesson which presents one of the principal topics of Spanish syntax, stressing those points of the topic which continue to be problematical to advanced students. Each grammar section consists of a clearly worded explanation of the basic theory underlying the topic under discussion, which is further clarified by a large number of example sentences.
