Book Synopsis Church of the Ever Greater God by : Aaron Pidel, S.J.
Download or read book Church of the Ever Greater God written by Aaron Pidel, S.J. and published by University of Notre Dame Pess. This book was released on 2020-05-31 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Church of the Ever Greater God, Aaron Pidel offers the first major English-language study of the ecclesiology of Erich Przywara, S.J., one of the most important Catholic theologians of the twentieth century. As Pidel shows, Przywara’s idea of analogia entis, or analogy of being, shaped his view of ecclesiology. According to this theory, every creature is made of various tensions or polarities in its being. Creatures flourish when these tensions are in equilibrium but transgress their creaturely limits when they absolutize one polarity over the other. Pidel demonstrates how Przywara used the concept of analogia entis to describe the structure and rhythm of the Catholic Church. In Przywara’s view, the Church, too, is essentially constituted by her tensions or polarities, and the members of the Church conform to that analogical tension to varying degrees of fidelity. Przywara claims that analogia entis not only describes the Church as she is but also can be used as a criterion for discerning the spiritual health of the Church by helping her to see where her equilibrium has become imbalanced. Pidel maintains that Przywara thought that the biggest risk to the Church’s analogical equilibrium in the last century was a de-emphasis of the typically Ignatian ideas of reverence for the Divine Majesty and missionary extraversion. Przywara’s vision of the Church is presented as a corrective to this one-sided imbalance. In drawing attention to Przywara’s metaphysically informed and deeply Ignatian ecclesiology, Pidel’s study will appeal not only to scholars of Przywara but also to all those who study ecclesiology and Catholic theology more broadly.

Book Synopsis Quest for the Living God by : Elizabeth A. Johnson
Download or read book Quest for the Living God written by Elizabeth A. Johnson and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2011-07-21 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Since the middle of the twentieth century,' writes Elizabeth Johnson, 'there has been a renaissance of new insights into God in the Christian tradition. On different continents, under pressure from historical events and social conditions, people of faith have glimpsed the living God in fresh ways. It is not that a wholly different God is discovered from the One believed in by previous generations. Christian faith does not believe in a new God but, finding itself in new situations, seeks the presence of God there. Aspects long-forgotten are brought into new relationships with current events, and the depths of divine compassion are appreciated in ways not previously imagined.' This book sets out the fruit of these discoveries. The first chapter describes Johnson's point of departure and the rules of engagement, with each succeeding chapter distilling a discrete idea of God. Featured are transcendental, political, liberation, feminist, black, Hispanic, interreligious, and ecological theologies, ending with the particular Christian idea of the one God as Trinity.

Download or read book Greater written by Steven Furtick and published by Multnomah. This book was released on 2014-05-06 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New York Times bestseller Pastor Steven Furtick draws on the biblical story of Elisha to give you the confidence to know that nothing is impossible with God, the clarity to see the next step He’s calling you to take, and the courage to do anything He tells you to do. Most of us aren’t in danger of ruining our lives, but we are in danger of wasting them. We all have honest moments when we’re gripped by a desire to feel that what we’re doing matters more. That who we are matters more. And according to John 14:12, Jesus wants the very same thing for every one of us: “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.” That single promise—“even greater things than these”—should be enough to shatter our acceptance of spiritual mediocrity. Unfortunately, most believers have only tried and given up on vague notions of greatness…then settled into a life that’s just good enough. But God has a vision for your life that is Greater. God is ready to accomplish a greatness in your life that is entirely out of human reach—beyond anything you see in yourself on your best day, but exactly what God has seen in you all along. In Greater, Pastor Steven Furtick draws on the biblical story of Elisha to empower you to: • Take a God-given dream from idea to reality • Stretch your limited resources and abilities in ways you never thought possible • Replace the images of yourself that keep you feeling stuck in the past • Make a significant impact with your life starting today, rather than making endless plans for tomorrow that you never get around to If you’re tired of being ordinary, it’s time to dream bigger. If you’re feeling overwhelmed about where to begin, it’s time to start smaller. It’s time to ignite God’s Greater vision for your life.

Download or read book Grace Is Greater written by Kyle Idleman and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2017-02-28 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The writer of the letter to the Hebrews said, "See to it that no one misses the grace of God." Over the centuries much ink has been spilled on the subject of grace. Yet perhaps nothing is as hard to explain as God's grace. It doesn't make sense. It's not fair. It can't possibly cover over what I've done. The best way--perhaps the only real way--to understand it is to experience it. But too often in our churches we're not getting grace across and grace is not experienced. Bestselling author and pastor Kyle Idleman wants everyone to experience the grace of God. Through the powerful medium of story, Grace Is Greater leads readers past their hang-ups toward an understanding of grace that is bigger than our mistakes, our failures, our desire for revenge, and our seemingly impossible situations. No sin is so great, no bitterness so deep that God's grace cannot transform the heart and rewrite the story. Perfect for individuals and also for small groups and church-wide studies, Grace Is Greater will help readers truly grasp God's grace, even if the Christians around them have failed to live it.
Book Synopsis Ever Increasing Faith (Sea Harp Timeless series) by : Smith Wigglesworth

This book was released on 2022-09-20 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Oh, if you would only believe God! What would happen?" Miracles were central to the ministry of Jesus and the beginnings of the early church. Yet, for many Christians today, the outrageous provision and promises of God feel like a thing of the past. Ever Increasing Faith is a collection of Smith Wigglesworth's sermons that demonstrate all that is possible through belief, with descriptive and inspiring firsthand accounts of healings, deliverances and breathtaking miracles. Wigglesworth's ministry and life were rooted in the unwavering belief that God heals the sick, sets the captives free, and redeems the brokenhearted—during Jesus’ time and now. A plumber-turned-evangelical-preacher, Smith Wigglesworth (1859-1957) had a radical encounter with the healing power of God. One of the pioneers of the Pentecostal revival, Wigglesworth traveled the world preaching the Gospel and healing the sick. Through his ministry, thousands were saved, hundreds were healed, and 14 people were raised from the dead. Known as the “Apostle of Faith”, Wigglesworth's formula was simple: “First, read the Word of God. Second, consume the Word of God until it consumes you. Third, believe the Word of God. Fourth, act on the Word.” In this compilation of sermon transcriptions, the reader will find: Firsthand accounts of miracles and healings Reflections on God’s goodness and power A faith-filled voice that passionately loved God A challenge to live a life led by the Spirit Assurance that a life of ever increasing faith is possible for all Ever Increasing Faith invites the reader on an incredible adventure to trust in God’s power to heal and to live a life guided by the passion, creativity and love of the Holy Spirit.

In this deeply personal yet remarkably universal book, Sam Collier tells his inspiring story of abandonment, sacrifice, gratitude, and rescue, revealing how God is always doing something bigger and better than we might imagine. That he has a purpose and a plan for every single one of us. That he is always telling his greater story through our trials, our relationships, and our triumphs. If you're in the middle of a challenging time and long to know that God is working through it, Sam's story will teach you how to see the big picture, even when there are pieces missing.
