Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bread of Life, Cup of Salvation is an invitation to a deeper appreciation for the celebration of the Mass and a greater conviction of its importance for our ordinary living-out of Christian faith in daily life. Taking into account the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the new edition of the General Instruction on the Roman Missal, Fr. John Baldovin, S.J., centers his lucid commentary on the Mass around the most recent official documents and provides an up-to-date survey of the historical development of the Mass from the New Testament to the present. Clear, concise, and accessible, Bread of Life, Cup of Salvation is an informative and powerful reflection on the meaning of the Eucharist for us today. This book responds to questions such as What are the orgins of the Mass? How did the Mass develop into what we know today? Why do we have several readings from Scripture at every Mass? Why do we always read a passage from the Gospels last? Why is the Eucharistic Prayer called the center and highpoint of the celebration of the Eucharist? What difference does it make if communion is distributed from the tabernacle or consecrated at the Mass at which people are receiving? Why do we have more than one Eucharistic Prayer? Is it important that people are offered communion in both kinds--the Body and the Blood of Christ? Why did the Mass get its popular name from the dismissal (missa)? Why was it important to recover the exchange of peace?

This book was released on 1999 with total page 778 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Considered by historian Herbert E. Bolton to be one of the greatest books ever written in the West, AndrŽs PŽrez de Ribas's history of the Jesuit missions provides unusual insight into Spanish and Indian relations during the colonial period in Northern New Spain. First published in Madrid in 1645, it traces the history of the missions from 1591 to 1643 and includes letters from Jesuit annual reports and other correspondence, much of which has never been found or cataloged in historical archives. Daniel T. Reff, Maureen Ahern, and Richard K. Danford have now prepared the first complete, scholarly, and fully annotated edition of this important work in English. PŽrez de Ribas was the first permanent missionary to the Ahome, Zuaque, and Yaqui Indians. After fifteen years on the mission frontier he was recalled to Mexico City, where he held various posts, including Jesuit Provincial. Addressed to novitiates ignorant of the challenges they would face in the field, his Historia was a virtual textbook on missionary work in the New World. Also written to encourage ongoing support of the Jesuit missions, it reflected the author's deep grasp of what rhetorically soothed and moved Church and Crown officials. Perhaps of greatest interest to the modern reader are PŽrez de Ribas's often detailed comments on indigenous beliefs and practices. These firsthand observations provide a rich resource of ethnographic and historical data concerning everything from native subsistence, settlement patterns, and myths to the dynamics of Jesuit-Indian relations. The many cases of conversion that PŽrez de Ribas describes are especially rich in ethnographic data, clarifying the values and beliefs from which the Indians were "rescued." History of the Triumphs is a primary document of great importance, made more valuable here by an exceptionally fluid translation and painstaking annotations. It will be a standard reference for all engaged in research on New Spain and a captivating read for anyone interested in this chapter of American history.

Book excerpt: In the beginning, the truth will set you free. Yes, it’s not original; but if it starts the writings of the Bible, it’s good enough for me. I have always had what I call a knowing. Others call it psychic, clairvoyance, etc. This is nothing new. There were many instances of knowing ability in human beings throughout history. In biblical times, they used to call them prophets. In fact, the writing you are about to hopefully enjoy have been given to me by this very medium that I think is referred to as automatic writing, written simply so there can be no misinterpretation of the story and the message it contains. I am aware that this book will invoke emotional responses from all who have read the Bible and follow the associated religion. This book is not written for any religion or cult on earth—all without exception because God and Jesus have nothing to do with them. Suffice to say, all religions are about control, especially over women, and about conquering the minds of the population. Religion is a man-made concept. God, however, exists and is freedom and everlasting life. There are already many versions of religious beliefs. The world is bursting with them, but supposing that there is an alternative to the culture of being brainwashed from birth into a judgmental religious zealot. This stands regardless of where you just happened to be born in this world. Brainwashing or culture starts from birth, from our parents, from school education, and from the work you do, culminating in the church or religion you are a member of. Imagine no religion, only God. I hope to show the reader what I have been told through my psychic walk on the other side. Have you ever heard the story of Chinese whispers? One that sticks out in my mind is, “Send reinforcements. We’re going to advance.” After the whisper goes around, it finally reaches the final person, who says, “Send three and four pence. We’re going to a dance.” Add to this concept that the Bible was written three hundred years after the year of our Lord (AD), then it isn’t wrong to assume that this is exactly how the Word of God and religion has developed.
