Book excerpt: Teens and young adult women are highly likely to experience some level of body dissatisfaction, which if ignored can result in unhealthy dieting habits, anorexia or bulimia. One in ten adolescent females experience threshold or subthreshold bulimia nervosa, but less than 25% of them ever seek treatment. Because body dissatisfaction is so prevalent in our society, it is often overlooked until it becomes a life-threatening illness. Treating low body image before it turns into a more serious health risk is the best way to protect young women's health. This intervention program stops the onset of dangerous body dissatisfaction by teaching participants to understand and reject the hoax of society's 'thin ideal.' Young women in college are at a particularly high risk for dangerous body dissatisfaction, and this risk can be exponentially increased for members of sororities. In efforts to combat this problem, many sororities now offer eating disorder awareness programs for their members. This adaptation of the successful Body Project program is designed specifically for use by sororities - workbook examples, exercises, and facilitator's instructions have all been tailored for use in a sorority setting. The accompanying workbook contains various assignments that keep participants thinking critically about the thin ideal.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The tourist experience is multi-faceted and dynamic, as tourists engage with its formation and creation. The tourists then become vital in creating value for themselves together with the service provider. Experience value cannot be pre-produced, but is co-created between host and guest(s) in the servicescape. The tourist managers can therefore only plan for and facilitate for value co-creation to take place. This book responds to the need for a critical review of how firms can facilitate and dramatize for enhanced experience value for tourists. As the roles of participants and providers are changing rapidly, new knowledge in terms of how value creation and value co-creation can transpire needs to be generated. The aim of this book is therefore to accentuate the role and importance of the core elements in value creation processes, namely, the customer(s), the setting in which co-creation would take place, and the provider. Bringing together scholars from diverse areas to address the nature of how the actors co-create values through interaction in different experience settings, the book also serves as a guide to the best practice of co-creation of tourist experiences. It will therefore appeal practically as well as theoretically to scholars and students of tourism, marketing, leisure, hospitality, and services management.

Book excerpt: This one-day workshop (with a 1/2 day option), Go Positive, is designed to integrate Sam Glenn's attitude enhancement tools into every day leadership and management practices, while illustrating the core elements of engagement and how to promote a culture of engagement. The Go Positive Engagement Model: A passionately engaged workforce can be mastered by addressing the three stages to engagement development. There are three separate activities that must be engaged in an individual to build a sustainable attitude of engagement: Awareness Alignment Application Awareness Principles are needed to understand where motivation is harvested. Awareness of the "origins of thinking" patterns provides the foundation for a positive working framework. Possessing and practicing self-awareness is key to developing stronger engagement. Alignment of Priorities is needed to keep and maintain a healthy and proper workplace engagement. Life work balance will be examined at the level of individual, team, and role, to determine the optimal alignment that will ensure full engagement. Action Practices are the essential ingredients to move toward sustainable change. Workshop: Participants will be led through an analysis of their current workplace engagement levels, while targeting needs and learning about tools to aid in the development of new attitudes required for higher performance. The workshop will cover why attitudes control destiny, how to choose the perfect attitude for achieving life goals, and why attitudes are so easily compromised. It will also cover what engagement looks like, how to know when it is occurring, and how to make adjustments along the way in order to keep a team engaged long term. As organizations deal with issues of layoffs, mergers, transitions, and challenging market conditions, they need assurance that they have a passionately engaged workforce. They also need the skills to adjust their methods as their environment changes. This program provides a roadmap for getting leaders and their employees on the right track, and keeping them there.

Book excerpt: A Global Guide to Human Resource Management is a concise HRM introductory text offering a uniquely non-region-specific approach to people management in international business organisations. The book presents an alternative to standard managerial approaches, reflecting the perspectives of multiple stakeholders (workers, trade unions, states and governments, NGOs) to critically evaluate HRM in practice and, in so doing, enables students to make effective decisions in their own practice, wherever their careers take them. Its accessibility and concision make it well suited to short courses for non-HRM and non-business specialists. This text covers all major introductory topics for non-specialists, introducing the concept and purpose of HRM, through recruitment, people, skills, designing work, promoting health, rewarding success, and successful and ethical people management. This edition includes a new chapter on green HRM. Rich with pedagogical features, the book includes five case studies per chapter to connect theory with practice. It is also supported with a range of instructor materials including online guest lectures, general discussion questions, a glossary, an index, and online documentaries that explain how to manage people. It is essential reading for students interested in Human Resources and Personnel Management, Organisational Behaviour and Development and Workplace Culture.

Book excerpt: Positive psychology - essentially the scientific study of the strengths that enable individuals and communities to thrive - is a relatively new discipline that has experienced substantial growth in the last 5-10 years. It emphasizes clinical application, providing a detailed view of how the research can be applied to patients. Covering the broaden-and-build theory, strengths-based therapy, mentoring modalities and more, the volume will provide numerous assessment tools, exercises and worksheets for use throughout the counseling and psychotherapy process. - Summarizes the applications of research from positive psychology to the practice of counseling and psychotherapy - Provides clinician a variety of assessments, worksheets, handouts, and take home and in-session exercises to utilize in the process of conducting therapy from a positive psychological perspective - Provides general treatment planning guidelines for the appropriate use of such assessments, worksheets, handouts, and exercises - Bibliography of positive psychology references to compliment the information provided in this book
