Book excerpt: The book Beyond Tears is a true story of what one family had to deal with when their eleven-year-old daughter was diagnosed as being mentally ill. The writer attempts to share a variety of issues that a family may have to address while living with a child who is emotionally disturbed (ED). He explains how the illness caused his daughter to become so dysfunctional, that she could no longer attend regular classes in school. The book also tries to explain how the Special Education Program tries to accommodate her special needs. As the issues escalated, his daughter had to be placed in a residential treatment center far away from the home environment. This placement created many new concerns for the family. The author has attempted to present his story in a way that most parents could relate to if they were in a similar situation. The story was written in a chronological order of events beginning with some family history, moving to the school years up through high school graduation. He tries to explain some of the methodology, logic and sometimes, just plain common sense of how his family worked through these issues. The book encompasses the dynamics of family life, social relationships, school systems, finances, community services (mental health centers, social services, courts, etc.), and the medical establishment. Each year there are more and more children being placed into our Special Education Programs, who have been diagnosed as emotionally disturbed (ED) or learning disabled (LD). There have been many books written about these children by doctors, social workers, therapists and educators. This is one of the few books that are written by a parent, who wanted to share with other parents, how the illness of his child effected their family. It is hoped that by reading this book you will have a better understanding of what a family has to address relating to a child with mental illness.

Book excerpt: A guided tour of one of the Midwest’s most vibrant subcultures, one DIY ramp at a time. The American Midwest may not have a reputation as the nation’s skating mecca, but maybe it should. In Midwest Shreds, Mandy Shunnarah travels around the region for a deep dive into its skating culture, detailing the activity’s long, storied history there and the large and diverse skating community that calls the Midwest home today. Here, you’ll learn how skating has become a form of mutual aid in Iowa, follow hard-core street skaters as they vie to become King of Cleveland, experience the transcendence of skating in a converted St. Louis cathedral, meet the anarchists who’ve built their own skate paradise, cinder block by cinder block, in southern Ohio, and encounter skaters from Des Moines, Madison, Chicago, West Lafayette, Detroit, and other corners of the Midwest. With writing that revels in the crunching scrape of hard wheels, the joy of nailing a trick for the first time, and the grit required to fall and get back up again, Midwest Shreds illuminates a small corner of Midwest life and offers a portrait of the rich cultural history and diversity that makes the region what it is today.

Book excerpt: "A piece of wood, two trucks, four wheels ... a skateboard. You start by rolling down a sidewalk, and end up rolling through life. For some the ride stops at the end of the street; for others the ride never ends. This book was written by those for whom the ride is never-ending: by the 15-year-old grom who falls asleep dreaming of skateboarding; by the 40-something "pad dad" you see at the local skatepark; by the women whose stories have never been told; and by the 73-year-old architect who didn't begin skateboarding until the age of 65. Over 170 stories and 200+ photographs. The 'everyman/everywoman' are accompanied by contributions from some 'notable' skateboarders, and other personalities from the skateboard world ... Some of the great skateboarding photographers have graciously contributed to the book."--Description from www.amazon.com

This book was released on with total page 517 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ethan Wares series is a fast-paced skateboard adventure written for skateboarders by a skateboarder and is guaranteed to keep you reading from beginning to end. Pro skateboarder, Ethan Wares, has been dropped by every sponsor and has one last deal on the table: a failing TV station, Network 27. In desperation to keep their ratings high, filming unique and inaccessible skate-spots adds to the pressure which claustrophobic Wares could do without. This omnibus edition covers all five books in the series, including: The Blocks, Abandoned, Pool Staker, Punch Drunk, and Nutbar DIY In The Blocks: Ethan skates a granite ledge from a prestigious art exhibition that has been flown 4000 miles around the world and placed in a council estate named, The Bronx. In Abandoned: The ultimate wall ride has been found in an old psychiatric hospital. In Pool Staker: After discovering a skate-able pool at an old leisure centre, Ethan thinks it’s a no-brainer to break in and ride it. In Punch Drunk: All Ethan wants to do is blow up the retail rail like they did in Fully Flared. In Nutbar DIY: A nearby explosion lands Ethan in a tricky position with a back garden chemist.
