Book Synopsis The Science and Practice of Welding: Volume 1 by : A. C. Davies
Download or read book The Science and Practice of Welding: Volume 1 written by A. C. Davies and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1993-02-11 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Science and Practice of Welding, now in its tenth edition and published in two volumes, is an introduction to the theory and practice of welding processes and their applications. Volume I, Welding Science and Technology, explains the basics principles of physics, chemistry and metallurgy as applied to welding. The section electrical principles includes a simple description of the silicone diode and resistor, the production and use of square wave, and one-knob stepless control of welding current. There is a comprehensive section on non-destructive testing (NDR) and destructive testing of welds and crack tip opening displacement testing. The text has been brought completely up to date and now includes a new chapter devoted to the inverter power unit. Duplex stainless steel has been included in the list of material described.
Book Synopsis Foundry Technology by : Peter Beeley
Download or read book Foundry Technology written by Peter Beeley and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-08-24 with total page 731 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Foundry Technology brings together basic metal casting phenomena, foundry techniques and product characteristics in a single work of reference. Peter Beeley was a foundry manager before he became a senior lecturer in metallurgy, and subsequently maintained continuous links with the castings industry and associated research activities and publications. His book is designed to serve as a bridge between the study of the basic principles of metal founding and their application in the producing and user industries. A particular aim of Foundry Technology is to assist engineers and engineering students in appreciating the role of castings in design and materials selection. Orthodox and specialized casting processes, and both ferrous and non-ferrous founding are considered on a comparative basis, and the place of castings in design is critically examined and related to other products. The revised edition takes account of the main changes in casting processes and products since the publication of the original edition in 1972. While retaining treatments of basic aspects of molding, solidification, cast structures and feeding, newer developments in modeling and rapid prototyping are reviewed, together with quality, environmental, health and other issues of growing importance. - New edition of well-known book - Fully updated with latest technology

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive book covers the five major NDT methods - liquid penetrants, eddy currents, magnetic particles, radiography and ultrasonics in detail and also considers newer methods such as acoustic emission and thermography and discusses their role in on-line monitoring of plant components. Analytical techniques such as reliability studies and statistical quality control are considered in terms of their ability to reduce inspection costs and limit down time. A useful chapter provides practical guidance on selecting the right method for a given situation.

Book excerpt: This document specifies the requirements for magnetic particle inspection of seamless and welded ferromagnetic steel tubes for surface imperfections on the tube body and imperfections on the end face/bevel at the tube ends. This document specifies the requirements for the detection of imperfections on the outer surface of all or part of steel tubes. Upon negotiation and agreement between the purchaser and the manufacturer, it can be applied to the detection of the inner surface over a limited length from the tube end (depending on the diameter of the steel tube). When applicable, this document can be used to locate the position of the external surface imperfections detected by other non-destructive testing (such as ultrasonic) methods before grinding, and to confirm that the imperfections have been completely removed after grinding. This document specifies the requirements for the detection of laminar imperfections on the end face/bevel at both ends of plain-end tubes and beveled-end tubes that may affect subsequent manufacturing and testing (such as welding and ultrasonic testing of welds). This document applies to the detection of laminar imperfections and other imperfections on the end face/bevel. In this case, the direction of the magnetic field shall be as perpendicular to the direction of the imperfection being detected as possible. This document also applies to the inspection of hollow parts.
