Download or read book Stick Bob written by Roland Barnes and published by Archway Publishing. This book was released on 2024-08-28 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I wrote most of this book at 9 years old over my summer break, writing down whatever ideas sprung from my imagination. This resulted in a boy named Stick Bob navigating this bizarro stick figure world which is full of as many potentially wondrous experiences as there are dangerous ones. The structure was a journey of a kid who wants to find direction in pursuing his lost parents, but life’s journey is a winding road and much less straightforward than he could ever imagine. The people he will come across will give him all sorts of different experiences that are probably more than he bargained for, but he’ll have to navigate all the same. This story is a rough, chaotic, goofy snapshot of my childhood imagination. My writing was fueled by seeing how far I could take the types of stories I had fun writing in my free time as a kid, where I would just have an inspiration from these ongoing fantastical narratives in other books and comics I was reading in my school’s library. Publishing this after so long feels like a chapter of my own life completing. I hope to have fun writing even more stories in the future.

Two misfit girls who become unlikely friends over the course of an unusual week. Readers of Lynda Mullaly Hunt, Rebecca Stead, and Lisa Graff will adore Stick with Me. ?Izzy’s best friend seems to be ditching her for the Queen of Mean, Daphne Toll. Izzy wants to fit in and have some real friends, but all she really has are her drawings. And then her family rents out their house during winter break for some extra cash—and that family’s daughter is sleeping in Izzy’s room and attending the same camp! Wren is focused on perfecting her ice-skating routine after tanking at sectionals last year. But when her sister qualifies for a life-changing treatment for her epilepsy, Wren is carted off to stay in a rented home near Boston. It doesn’t help that she’s forced to attend the local theater camp, where it seems like the mean girls have it out for her. Will Izzy and Wren’s shared status as targets of Phoebe and Daphne bring them closer? Or will middle school drama prevent them from ever becoming friends? Jennifer Blecher, the author of the acclaimed Out of Place, writes with a pitch-perfect ear for tween girls about the ups and downs of middle school friendships. Told from dual perspectives, Stick with Me is a story about fitting in and figuring yourself out.

Book Synopsis A Stick and a Stone by : Brown Eagle
Download or read book A Stick and a Stone written by Brown Eagle and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2015-02-25 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18 Sadly, love knows too well the abused, betrayed, neglected, abandoned, rejected, and cheated, just to name a few. Loves gift of joy and trust quickly fades. Loves flame quietly becomes a smoldering ember. Walls are built, a dark fortress within, protects a heart that breaks. A Stick and a Stone was written to reach out to those who are hurting. The path of life these days is not an easy road to travel. Praises lifted that we do not have to travel this road alone. I was abandoned at nine months of age, placed in Saint Vincents Orphanage, and adopted by the age of six. By the age of 14, the streets had become safer. Abuse had become the norm throughout life. A Stick and a Stone was written to help those who are hurting, broken, and crushed in spirit. My prayer is that the messages found in my writings will give others the same strength, hope, and love that I have found in Christ.
Download or read book The Talking Stick written by Donna Levin and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2024-04-23 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Four women find humor, truth, romance, and a better path forward by deconstructing memory and emotion—and expose a wannabe cult leader along the way. Hunter is lost. Her husband left her for Angelica, her former best friend whose new hit memoir is spreading unsavory lies about Hunter. She’s unemployed with no prospects, and the San Francisco flea market she’s wandering on a weekday is so foggy that she literally doesn’t know where she is. It’s only after a helpful visit and a gift from a stranger who appears from the mist that Hunter finds her resolve. She begins a support group for women looking for new beginnings—only to have Angelica start one, too. In the next room over. One that feels very cult-y. The Talking Stick is the adventure of Hunter and the three women who join her reclamation journey. Together, they reexamine their pasts, explore their grief, addictions, parenting, and marriages, and discover that some of their most-cherished memories are romanticized versions of the truth. Meanwhile, they unearth other memories—memories that challenge how they’ve been living for years. And, with the help of a lawyer who prefers life on a houseboat to the pretensions of the city, Hunter unravels Angelica’s scheme. The Talking Stick is a fast-paced dramedy set in the Bay Area, told with the characteristic humor of Donna Levin, an author whom Kirkus called “A witty, modern voice” and the Los Angeles Times deemed “a novelist to keep high on your reading list.”
