Book Synopsis Probing The Nuclear Paradigm With Heavy Ion Reactions - Proceedings Of The International School Of Heavy Ion Physics by : Ricardo Americo Broglia
Download or read book Probing The Nuclear Paradigm With Heavy Ion Reactions - Proceedings Of The International School Of Heavy Ion Physics written by Ricardo Americo Broglia and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1995-02-22 with total page 534 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Major developments have taken place during the last few years in the study of the nuclear paradigm as a result of recent detector and accelerator developments, and of improved theoretical models. The active use of 4-π detectors to measure the gamma decay of excited nuclei has been instrumental in exploring the consequences of extremely high rotational frequencies and excitation energies in the nuclear structure. The identification of superdeformed bands, of limiting temperature for the detection of giant resonances, and of rotational damping, are conspicuous examples of this novel type of research. Studies of the disassembling of the nucleus have been systematically carried out, and the results interpreted in terms of transport models. At even higher temperatures one expects to have a completely new regime of hot dense matter, where the hadronic properties become strongly renormalized by the medium.Furthermore, studies of the properties of the nucleon as a many-body system of quarks and gluons displaying collective degrees of freedom which are damped by couplings to more complicated states, are providing a detailed and consistent picture of the nuclear paradigm.Important progress is also taking place in situations essentially opposite to the scenarios described above, namely in the study of correlations in nuclear matter at very low temperature and density.

Book excerpt: The series of volumes, Contemporary Concepts in Physics, is addressed to the professional physicist and to the serious graduate student of physics. The subject of many-body systems constitutes a central chapter in the study of quantum mechanics, with applications ranging from elementary particle and condensed matter physics to the behaviour of compact stellar objects. Quantal size effects is one of the most fascinating facets of many-body physics; this is testified to by the developments taking place in the study of metallic clusters, fullerenes, nanophase materials, and atomic nuclei. This book is divided into two main parts: the study of giant resonances based on the atomic nucleus ground state (zero temperature), and the study of the y-decay of giant resonances from compound (finite temperature) nuclei.

This book was released on 1994-10-25 with total page 626 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These proceedings treat the production of high energy gamma rays and particles (mesons and dileptons) in heavy ion reactions from energies of about 30 MeV·A to a few GeV·A, and its application to the study of the Nuclear Equation of State from both the experimental and theoretical points of view. Giant resonances, intensity interferometry, meson fotoproduction and applications of intermediate energy heavy ion beams are also discussed.
Book Synopsis Electromagnetic Probes of Fundamental Physics by : William J. Marciano
Download or read book Electromagnetic Probes of Fundamental Physics written by William J. Marciano and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2003 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book constitutes the proceedings of a workshop which originated from a discussion with Professor A Zichichi in March 2001. The purpose of the meeting was to celebrate two developments at Brookhaven that, in both cases, are the outcome of more than a decade of preparation: the new muon g-2 measurement and the flood of data that started pouring out of RHIC. Bringing together people from these very different fields was an interesting challenge. But, at the time, when a small community of heavy ion physicists was beginning to define a program of electromagnetic interactions at RHIC and LHC, it seemed logical. The result is the white paper OC Hot Topics in Ultra-peripheral CollisionsOCO.On Fermi''s centennial, his original paper, developing for the first time the equivalent photon approximation, seemed to merit renewed attention. The paper has been translated into English from the Italian and included in the proceedings."

This book was released on 1989 with total page 1298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cities and Their Vital Systems asks basic questions about the longevity, utility, and nature of urban infrastructures; analyzes how they grow, interact, and change; and asks how, when, and at what cost they should be replaced. Among the topics discussed are problems arising from increasing air travel and airport congestion; the adequacy of water supplies and waste treatment; the impact of new technologies on construction; urban real estate values; and the field of "telematics," the combination of computers and telecommunications that makes money machines and national newspapers possible.
