Aging definitely has its mysteries but it also has a lot of fun surprises-little unexpected twists and turns-that happen when you least expect them and that is what makes this journey we call "Life" so interesting. There hopefully are a lot of years between birth and the end of life, so my dear friends, I ask that you Enjoy the Journey. Enjoy my journey as I share the wisdom and sense of humor I have been forced to develop in spite of Mother Nature's attempt to try my patience every chance she gets. You will find that we women around the world are all sisters on this trip. Aging is inevitable, so why not make the best of it? In my particular journey, there are so many things my mother didn't tell me! As a result, growing older has at times been an agonizing challenge so I am sharing some common sense secrets to make your journey more fun. I have injected humor throughout. After all, if you can't laugh at yourself, who can and still get away with it?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is just a few years ago that I started to write this book! Its Official! Growing Old Sucks! My intent was simply to appeal to older folks of sixty-five years and older who have let their physical and mental muscles go to hell in a hand basket! However, I have to say at that point in time that I did not have a lot of enthusiasm or intensity for the task, which is why the book remained unfinished! However, my life was turned upside down when my wonderful big sister fell victim to Alzheimers, such a devastating illness! My sisters demise brought me to the shocking realization that many older people who, just like my sister, have not bothered to make any effort to maintain some level of physical and/or mental fitness could quite possibly fall victim to the same fate! In that instant, I realized that although I could do nothing to help my sister, I felt obligated to do anything in my power to help the Alzheimer Foundation do whatever it could to hopefully find a cure at some point for this devastating illness! What sprang from the realization that I needed to do something was what had been missing for several years! My all-empowering why! From that point, that awesome power enabled me to become energized, not only to finish writing this book, but it also empowered me to get my body and my mind into the best physical condition of my life! I now look and feel like a man in my forties! However, what truly inspires me is the fact that I now have a tried-and-tested formula to help other older folks to also get into the best shape of their adult lives! Come join my crusade, and follow my lead! Theres plenty more room for you to become energized and to be in the best shape of your adult life too! Just as I have done!

Book excerpt: Growing Old Sucks! We've all said it. Sure, there are some bad things about getting older, but the good things far outweigh the bad. As we age, we gain experience and wisdom (at least some of us do), we mellow and ripen (some of us smell like old cheese too) and we have freedoms that we never had while we were young. Growing Old Sucks is a set of tips and topics designed to help you have the best years of your life. This is not an anti-aging book. Anti-aging just doesn't make sense. If you stop aging, it means you're dead. If you reverse aging is that reliving your 20s? Do you really want to go there - but not have the years of experience you have? Growing Old Sucks shows people over 50 how to have fun and dance through the rest of your life. From sex to dining, relationships to work, Growing Old Sucks illustrates how you can have the life you've always wanted. This is the best time of your life. Most importantly, this book will show you how to age with attitude, taking a stand that growing old really doesn't suck!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You know somebody who's getting old? Well, "Getting Old Sucks!" is for them; a collection of stories and observations from Ernie del Santo, a Chicago-born grandfather, husband, bowler, and a cranky old man with a heart of ... well, not gold; maybe bronze. Ernie tackles life and old age head-on, and sometimes it tackles him back. He likes to quote the Latin phrase "Illegitimus non carborundum est" which means "Don't let the bastards grind you down." Sometimes they do, and Ernie has the scars to prove it. Ernie loves his wife Marie, pasta, his family and friends, his dog Rocky Balboa, and his team The Five Aces. And he doesn't hold his tongue as he tells stories of raising kids, going to the doctor for a 'procedure' (in the chapter "Colonoscopy My Ass"), his bucket list, and hanging out with his friends and teammates for a few laughs ... or to say goodbye to an old friend. If you have six pair of reading glasses and can't find any of them, or if you've ever heard your shoulder crack when you throw the ball to your dog, you know what Ernie means when he says "Getting Old Sucks!" Illustrated by Thomas Cain.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discover how the freedom of sucking at something can help you build resilience, embrace imperfection, and find joy in the pursuit rather than the goal. What if the secret to resilience and joy is the one thing we’ve been taught to avoid? When was the last time you tried something new? Something that won’t make you more productive, make you more money, or check anything off your to-do list? Something you’re really, really bad at, but that brought you joy? Odds are, not recently. As a sh*tty surfer and all-around-imperfect human Karen Rinaldi explains in this eye-opening book, we live in a time of aspirational psychoses. We humblebrag about how hard we work and we prioritize productivity over play. Even kids don’t play for the sake of playing anymore: they’re building blocks to build the ideal college application. But we’re all being had. We’re told to be the best or nothing at all. We’re trapped in an epic and farcical quest for perfection. We judge others on stuff we can’t even begin to master, and it’s all making us more anxious and depressed than ever. Worse, we’re not improving on what really matters. This book provides the antidote. (It’s Great to) Suck at Something reveals that the key to a richer, more fulfilling life is finding something to suck at. Drawing on her personal experience sucking at surfing (a sport she’s dedicated nearly two decades of her life to doing without ever coming close to getting good at it) along with philosophy, literature, and the latest science, Rinaldi explores sucking as a lost art we must reclaim for our health and our sanity and helps us find the way to our own riotous suck-ability. She draws from sources as diverse as Anthony Bourdain and surfing luminary Jaimal Yogis, Thich Nhat Hanh, and Jean-Paul Sartre, among many others, and explains the marvelous things that happen to our mammalian brains when we try something new, all to discover what she’s learned firsthand: it is great to suck at something. Sucking at something rewires our brain in positive ways, helps us cultivate grit, and inspires us to find joy in the process, without obsessing about the destination. Ultimately, it gives you freedom: the freedom to suck without caring is revelatory. Coupling honest, hilarious storytelling with unexpected insights, (It’s Great to) Suck at Something is an invitation to embrace our shortcomings as the very best of who we are and to open ourselves up to adventure, where we may not find what we thought we were looking for, but something way more important.

Book excerpt: "[Her] dialogue bristles with smart, eloquent talk...Ms. Ziegler's quietly lyrical language has a luminous beauty, and her talent for creating characters whose complicated depths are just visible on their surfaces is still more remarkable." (The New York Times) This second play collection from one of America's most successful theatre writers brings together four plays that offer differing perspectives on family and the human condition. Each play has enjoyed successful productions in cities across America, cementing Ziegler's position as one of the world's most exciting contemporary dramatists. The Wanderers: A funny, insightful, and mysterious new drama explores the hidden connections between seemingly disparate people, drawing audiences into an intriguing puzzle and a deeply sympathetic look at modern love. It's magnificent." (DC Theatre Scene) The Great Moment: A personal and poignant meditation on beginnings and endings, birth and age, and the moments of transition that mark our passage from life to death. "A reflection on family, love, life, expected loss, and the peculiarity of our relationship with time, The Great Moment blends moments of sweetness, sadness, nostalgia, delight, and humor to create a delightful evening of theater." (Seattle Pockets) Another Way Home: A funny, moving, and uplifting examination of what it means to be a family. "a laugh-packed serio-comedy that shoves family life under a microscope. The dialogue is ironic, sardonic, poignant, insightful and funny - with each sensation rapidly piling atop the next." (Marinscope) Actually: Investigates gender and race politics, our crippling desire to fit in, and the three sides to every story. “Gripping. Beautifully rendered and complex. Destined to trigger discussion.” (LA Times)

Book excerpt: At a time when the sporting world seems to be losing its perspective, author John Clendening provides another viewpoint. In Love Letters to Sports, he celebrates sports at its bestits moments in time that capture our hearts and remind us of the role it can play as a touch point in our lives. In this memoir, Clendening narrates his special sports moments, such as his first-ever road trip with his eight-year-old son and how his sons sports obsession at a young age reminds him of his own. He tells of going to a football game in Texas and falling in love all over again with a certain cheerleader, and how his favorite announcer brought him to tears on the night his youngest daughter was born. This collection of 19 personal essays pays tribute to our own moments in time and moments in life when sports play a supporting role in creating memories never to be forgotten. From football to tennis, from baseball to golf, from the fields of youth to the armchair of middle age, this is not a book about love, nor is it one about sports. Its about the many times and places the two have met in one mans life.

Young readers--and their parents--are sure to find this no-nonsense, real-life advice helpful, and it will help them realize that it's okay to talk to their parents and other advisors around them about big issues that might be uncomfortable to discuss.
