Download or read book Bad with Money written by Gaby Dunn and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2019-01-01 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Humorous and forthright...[Gaby] Dunn makes facing money issues seem not only palatable but possibly even fun....Dunn’s book delivers.” —Publishers Weekly The beloved writer-comedian expands on his popular podcast with an engaging and empowering financial literacy book for Millennials and Gen Z. In the first episode of his Bad With Money podcast, Gaby Dunn asked patrons at a coffee shop two questions: First, what’s your favorite sex position? Everyone was game to answer, even the barista. Then, she asked how much money was in their bank accounts. People were aghast. “That’s a very personal question,” they insisted. And therein lies the problem. Dunn argues that our inability to speak honestly about money is our #1 barrier to understanding it, leading us to feel alone, ashamed, and anxious, which in turns makes us feel even more overwhelmed by it. In Bad With Money, he reveals the legitimate, systemic reasons behind our feeling of helplessness when it comes to personal finance, demystifying the many signposts on the road to getting our financial sh*t together, like how to choose an insurance plan or buy a car, sign up for a credit card or take out student loans. He speaks directly to her audience, offering advice on how to make that #freelancelyfe work for you, navigate money while you date, and budget without becoming a Nobel-winning economist overnight. Even a topic as notoriously dry as money becomes hilarious and engaging in the hands of Dunn, who weaves his own stories with the perspectives of various comedians, artists, students, and more, arguing that—even without selling our bodies to science or suffering the indignity of snobby thrift shop buyers—we can all start taking control of our financial futures.

Book Synopsis Knowledge under Construction by : Daniel Ness
Download or read book Knowledge under Construction written by Daniel Ness and published by Rowman & Littlefield Publishers. This book was released on 2007-03-26 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Knowledge under Construction investigates how young children develop spatial, geometric, and scientific thinking skills-particularly those associated with architecture. Based on original research and analysis of videotapes of children's play with blocks, the authors' findings suggest that such play is anything but pointless. Their conclusions fill in gaps in our current understanding of how children learn to think spatially and scientifically even while challenging portions of that understanding, including some of Piaget's thesis about the primacy of topological space in children's learning. A system of measurement developed to identify and categorize children's spontaneous behavior at play allows adults to observe patterns of behavior as children play and record the development of process skills and cognitive abilities, enhancing our understanding of how children begin to learn about space and architectural relationships. The book also examines the educational implications of our enhanced understanding. One possible development is a new, alternative way to measure cognitive abilities and development in children based on their work with blocks.

Book excerpt: A soul-baring, brutally candid, and highly colorful memoir of the two years--1977 and 1978--when Reggie Jackson went from being an outcast to a Yankee legend. In the spring of 1977 Reggie Jackson should have been on top of the world. The best player on the Oakland A's dynasty teams, he was the first big-money free agent wooed by George Steinbrenner into coming to the New York Yankees. But, as Reggie writes in this vivid and surprising memoir, until his initial experience with the Yankees, "I didn't know what alone meant." Persevering against an alcoholic manager, ostracism from teammates, and negative stereotypes in the New York City press, Jackson fought against the odds to become "Mr. October." Filled with revealing anecdotes about the notorious "Bronx Zoo" Yankees of the late 1970s, bluntly honest portrayals of his teammates and competitors, and especially of manager Billy Martin, Becoming Mr. October is a revelatory self-portrait of a baseball icon at the height of his public fame and private anguish.

Download or read book In the Streets of Vinegar Hill written by Sr. William A James and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2007-03 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: William A. James Sr. has done it again. He delves into the emotional side of why Vinegar Hill, a 20-acre-tract, was deemed an unbearable slum, and had to be destroyed immediately in 1963. Everything wrong with Charlottesville was blamed on the innocent inhabitants of the "Hill." When three notorious hoodlums killed a UVA student, and Gabe Owens informed on them, most of the City Council and the UVA President swung into action. They masterminded a plan to demolish the homes and businesses of all Blacks on the "Hill," for the crimes of one or two people. The above were helped along by the actions of three "racist" police officers who had murdered William Griot, to keep him from divulging the secret that they were actually Blacks. This novel is intriguing, mysterious, spiritual, and down-home soulful all at once. In this novel, James enters the mind of the reader from page one, and does not let him/her go.
