Rhesus monkey population data was conducted to facilitate a deeper understanding of the independent factors associated with the skeletal retention of 90Sr. A series of general regression models were analyzed to determine which models most accurately represented the study data and which independent factors within the population had influence on the best fit models. The best fit model for the entire population yielded an R2 of 82.64%, R2 predicted of 77.87%. The model included four independent factors: exposure age, exposure type, time post exposure to sacrifice, and the interaction between time post exposure to sacrifice and exposure age. Sub-group models analyzed included: a) JV/IP injected (R2 =82.48%, R2 predicted =76.93%) with factors of exposure age, time post exposure to sacrifice, and the interaction between time post exposure to sacrifice and exposure age, b) IM injected (R2=88.59%, R2 predicted= 79.88%) with factors of exposure dosage, time post exposure to sacrifice, and exposure weight, c) Oral feeding (R2=66. 11%, R2 predicted= 22.99%) with factors of exposure age and time post exposure to sacrifice. The results of the analyses generally follow results from similar studies on the retention of 90Sr in the skeleton. However, the strong dependence of all models on the time post exposure to sacrifice indicates this single factor may be the most important of all factors analyzed. The biological and physiological processes governing the transfer of chemical substances within the body over our lifetimes is apparently not constant.
