This book presents the advances in both solar and cosmic X-ray astronomy, all made possible by instruments carried in high altitude balloons, in rockets, and in orbiting satellites. Organized into eight chapters, this volume begins with an overview of solar X-ray phenomena. This text then examines the aspect of manned space flight, with focus on nutrition for astronaut flight crews. Other chapters consider how oxygen may be secured as a result of electrolyzing lunar rocks. This book discusses as well the significance of the Skylab experiments in the context of their disciplines and the part they play in the continuing evolution of space operations. The final chapter deals with the educational satellite, which is one of the most challenging of all practical applications of space technology. This book is a valuable resource for readers who are interested in space science and technology.

It is a light-hearted look at the world of the amateur or semi-professional guitarist, through the eyes of one who’s been there, done it and certainly got the T shirt. “Whether you’re a complete beginner as a guitarist, or a seasoned old campaigner, I hope you will enjoy reading this book, as much as I have enjoyed writing it, and that perhaps some of my experiences will strike a chord (no pun intended).” “I hold you in high esteem as a muso mate. I remember us starting together years ago and you genuinely helped me see that music was not just 12 bar stuff, you really knew some chords. Great times mate and no one can take those away. Take care and sincere good luck with the new outfit and the book.” Terry Fisk “A fine read and an entertaining account of your life. I’m sure many people will enjoy this, I have. It sparked off my own memories of people and places long forgotten.” John D’Costa

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although many schools and educational systems, from elementary to tertiary level, state that they endorse anti-homophobic policies, pedagogies and programs, there appears to be an absence of education about, and affirmation of, bisexuality and minimal specific attention paid to bi-phobia. Bisexuality appears to be falling into the gap between the binary of heterosexuality and homosexuality that informs anti-homophobic policies, programs, and practices in schools initiatives such as health education, sexuality education, and student welfare. These erasures and exclusions leave bisexual students, family members and educators feeling silenced and invisibilized within school communities. Also absent is attention to intersectionality, or how indigeneity, gender, class, ethnicity, rurality and age interweave with bisexuality. Indeed, as much research has shown, erasure, exclusion, and the absence of intersectionality have been considered major factors in bisexual young people, family members and educators in school communities experiencing worse mental, emotional, sexual and social health than their homosexual or heterosexual counterparts. This book is the first of its kind, providing an international collection of empirical research, theory and critical analysis of existing educational resources relating to bisexuality in education. Each chapter addresses three significant issues in relation to bisexuality and schooling: erasure, exclusion, and the absence of intersectionality. From indigenous to rural schools, from tertiary campuses to elementary schools, from films to picture books as curriculum resources, from educational theory to the health and wellbeing of bisexual students, this book’s contributors share their experiences, expertise and ongoing questions. This book was originally published as a special issue of the Journal of Bisexuality.

Book excerpt: Thirty major contemporary writers examine life in a deeply divided New York In a city where the top one percent earns more than a half-million dollars per year while twenty-five thousand children are homeless, public discourse about our entrenched and worsening wealth gap has never been more sorely needed. This remarkable anthology is the literary world’s response, with leading lights including Zadie Smith, Junot Díaz, and Lydia Davis bearing witness to the experience of ordinary New Yorkers in extraordinarily unequal circumstances. Through fiction and reportage, these writers convey the indignities and heartbreak, the callousness and solidarities, of living side by side with people of starkly different means. They shed light on the subterranean lives of homeless people who must find a bed in the city’s tunnels; the stresses that gentrification can bring to neighbors in a Brooklyn apartment block; the shenanigans of seriously alienated night-shift paralegals; the trials of a housing defendant standing up for tenants’ rights; and the humanity that survives in the midst of a deeply divided city. Tales of Two Cities is a brilliant, moving, and ultimately galvanizing clarion call for a city—and a nation—in crisis.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Visual archetypes are the DNA of culture. In artefacts and artworks, where archaeo-astronomers see ancient star maps, archaeologists see cultural traditions, and anthropologists see initiation secrets, appear a standard sequence of types, on an axial grid. Structural archaeology uses constellations as myth maps to find the structure of our perception. All inspired artists, in the Stone, Ice, Bronze and Iron Ages; Babylonians, Egyptians, Chinese, Celts, Mayans, Vikings and moderns, subconsciously express mindprint, our eternal artefact. The sixteen clusters of attributes are demonstrated in 200 examples of famous art and rock art works from every continent and culture. Archetypes are statistically proven, and their 'camouflage' is explained in terms of archaeology, anthropology, art history, psychology, philosophy, archaeo-astronomy, esoterica and spirituality. Readers will never look at art, artists or culture as a cumulative, learned or evolved craft again.

Book excerpt: “Robson has created such life-like characters I feel a strong connection and would totally take them all out for a beer if I could.” —Gothic Mom’s Reviewers Taran Wird, the loudmouth mistress of flame and lightning, didn’t want to attend the formal gathering of the supernatural elite. She did so only to help unite the supreme beings in attendance in one common goal: protecting Taran’s sister, Celia. Celia is pregnant with alpha werewolf Aric Connor’s child, the same child prophesized to save the world from uprising evil. Evil wants this child dead before he is born and, more importantly, before he can grow strong enough to stop it. Taran and her werewolf lover, Gemini, put plans in place to protect Celia. Master Vampire Misha Aleksandr and his clan also swear their allegiance to Celia and vow to keep her from harm. The witches even cast protection spells around the manor to curse anyone with malintent who enters. Nothing was supposed to go wrong, except everything did. Creatures that shouldn’t exist stalk the grounds and invade the premises, and every curse meant to shield the guests turns against them. No one counted on the powerful being who arrived uninvited. But he’s here, manipulating the magic enclosing the estate to work in his favor. As body counts rise and allies become enemies, chances are Celia won’t survive the night. But evil never counted on how hard Taran Wird would fight, even at the expense of her life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using the Sidereal Zodiac, like Nostradamus, an astrologer and metaphysician shares her insight about the blending of Eastern and Western astrology in The Zodiac Conspiracy. This book underscores the omission of Ophiuchus, a major constellation that the Greeks left off the tropical zodiac wheel. It includes a brief section on Ophiuchus, the only constellation named after a real man named Imhotep. The 13 Sun Signs of the Zodiac outlines the differences between popular tropical astrology (that you read in the daily horoscopes) and the science/astronomy of sidereal astrology. This book merges the sidereal and tropical systems to help us understand how the tropical zodiac represents who we are learning to be, while the sidereal zodiac represents who we really are. • Rev.Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was really a Sagittarian (The Seeker) who was learning how to be a Capricorn goat, climbing up the mountain to become The Achiever. • Jesus was probably born under the sign of Virgo to a virgin mother. However, he was really a Libra (The Peacemaker) who was learning how to be a Virgo (The Selfless Servant). All of this and much, much more is explained in this extraordinary book—13 Sun Signs of Zodiac.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It all started innocently enough in New York’s Gramercy Park district. Archie Gamble, a Gemini, is writing a TV special on astrology under the expert but irritating tutelage of Anna Muckermann. The show’s success depends on Archie’s finding a set of astro-twins - two persons born at the same moment in approximately the same vicinity. So far, no luck and no astro-twins. The studio deadline is scorching Archie’s neck, and, as Ms. Muckermann kindly explains to his wife, the fault is in Archie’s stars. His signs are bad. Nothing but trouble can be anticipated. As unpredictable Gemini would have it, Archie’s own astro-twin steps forth in the shape of a mild-mannered psychologist, Neal Dana. Actually, Neal doesn’t step forward. He’s pushed, by his very attractive wife, who has her own personal reasons for wanting him out of the house a couple of nights a week. And what Neal and Archie are thrust into is a star-crossed pattern of events - and their violent and intertwined destinies will send panicked readers scurrying after their own horoscopes. Don’t Rely on Gemini is one of the eeriest spellbinders in many a full moon.
