Book Synopsis Advanced Gas Turbine Cycles by : J.H. Horlock
Download or read book Advanced Gas Turbine Cycles written by J.H. Horlock and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Primarily this book describes the thermodynamics of gas turbine cycles. The search for high gas turbine efficiency has produced many variations on the simple "open circuit" plant, involving the use of heat exchangers, reheating and intercooling, water and steam injection, cogeneration and combined cycle plants. These are described fully in the text. A review of recent proposals for a number of novel gas turbine cycles is also included. In the past few years work has been directed towards developing gas turbines which produce less carbon dioxide, or plants from which the CO2 can be disposed of; the implications of a carbon tax on electricity pricing are considered. In presenting this wide survey of gas turbine cycles for power generation the author calls on both his academic experience (at Cambridge and Liverpool Universities, the Gas Turbine Laboratory at MIT and Penn State University) and his industrial work (primarily with Rolls Royce, plc.) The book will be essential reading for final year and masters students in mechanical engineering, and for practising engineers.

Book Synopsis Gas Turbine Cycle Calculations by : M.S. Chappell
Download or read book Gas Turbine Cycle Calculations written by M.S. Chappell and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In performing rigorous calculations involving the thermodynamic properties of air and combustion products, as encountered in open cycle gas turbines, the data tabulations of Fielding and Topps are widely used. These tables consist of specific heat, enthalpy, and entropy data for dry air, as functions of temperature; an auxiliary table provides fuel/air ratio corrections, also as functions of temperature, for these three thermodynamic parameters. The present tables provide similar data in a slightly more convenient form. The theta functions (fuel/air ratio corrections) are included in the same table as the thermodynamic parameters, avoiding use of two tables, and considerably easing interpolation. The present tables are presented in CHU-K, BTU degree R, and k-J-K units, and also cover a slightly extended temperature range of 200 to 2200 K (350 to 4000 degree R).

Book Synopsis Propulsion and Power by : Joachim Kurzke
Download or read book Propulsion and Power written by Joachim Kurzke and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-05-28 with total page 766 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is written for engineers and students who wish to address the preliminary design of gas turbine engines, as well as the associated performance calculations, in a practical manner. A basic knowledge of thermodynamics and turbomachinery is a prerequisite for understanding the concepts and ideas described. The book is also intended for teachers as a source of information for lecture materials and exercises for their students. It is extensively illustrated with examples and data from real engine cycles, all of which can be reproduced with GasTurb (TM). It discusses the practical application of thermodynamic, aerodynamic and mechanical principles. The authors describe the theoretical background of the simulation elements and the relevant correlations through which they are applied, however they refrain from detailed scientific derivations.

Book Synopsis Gas Turbine Cycle Calculations: Experimental Verificaiton of Off- Design-Point Performance Predictions for a Two-Spool Turbojet with Various Air Bleeds by : M. S. Chappell
Download or read book Gas Turbine Cycle Calculations: Experimental Verificaiton of Off- Design-Point Performance Predictions for a Two-Spool Turbojet with Various Air Bleeds written by M. S. Chappell and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As part of a continuing program of gas turbine cycle calculations, the Engine Laboratory of the National Research Council of Canada has proposed a simplified method for calculating off-design-point performance of turbojet and turbofan engines, both at sea level static and at altitude flight conditions. This method specifically implies constancy of component efficiencies and linearity of corrected mass flow with corrected engine speed. During a series of tests on a J-75 two-spool turbojet engine, experimental data were gathered at part-throttle conditions, and subsequently with compressor bleed extraction and with propelling nozzle area change.
Book Synopsis Efficiency, Performance and Robustness of Gas Turbines by : Konstantin Volkov

This book was released on 2012-04-04 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A wide range of issues related to analysis of gas turbines and their engineering applications are considered in the book. Analytical and experimental methods are employed to identify failures and quantify operating conditions and efficiency of gas turbines. Gas turbine engine defect diagnostic and condition monitoring systems, operating conditions of open gas turbines, reduction of jet mixing noise, recovery of exhaust heat from gas turbines, appropriate materials and coatings, ultra micro gas turbines and applications of gas turbines are discussed. The open exchange of scientific results and ideas will hopefully lead to improved reliability of gas turbines.
Book Synopsis Gas Turbine Cycle Calculations by : E. P. Cockshutt
Download or read book Gas Turbine Cycle Calculations written by E. P. Cockshutt and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The equilibrium operation of a simple turbojet engine is analyzed, using logarithmic differential methods to infer performance changes about a design point. A simple method, assuming constant specific heats and ignoring mass addition effects, is compared with a more rigorous analysis where both these effects are considered; it is shown that the computation of fuel flow, at least, should follow the rigorous analysis. The application of the analysis is illustrated by considering the performance response of a turbojet engine as the air flow is reduced. The effects of simple mass flow change and simple compressor efficiency change are considered separately, and superposition to determine the combined result is illustrated. Extensive changes of cycle parameters and component efficiences are shown to have only small changes on engine thrust and sfc response; somewhat stronger effects are associated with changing the engine flight condition.
