This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past decade we have witnessed a revolution in analytical methods. The development of vapor phase chromatography for the separation and analysis of classes of substances ranging from metals and gases to a wide variety of organic materials has been one of the most exciting of these new techniques. Gas-liquid chromatography for the measurement of steroids is particularly significant for endocrinologists and reports during the past several years have demonstrated its usefulness. Because of the growing interest in this method, a committee of the Endocrinology Study Section composed of Drs. R. M. Dodson, Seymour Lieberman, Hilton A. Salhanick, and Ralph E. Peterson, felt that the time was propitious to hold this Workshop and it is on their behalf that I welcome you. We hope to obtain enough data during these sessions so that those attending this conference and those who may read the proceedings will be able to make an informed judgement about the usefulness of gas-liquid chromatography for the analysis of steroids in biological fluids. Thus, I hope that there will be adequate documentation of the reliability of the methods as well as a comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of this analytical method with other classical methods. If we can do this, this Workshop will provide a significant base of practical considerations about gas chromatographic analytic techniques. I would like to thank Drs. T. F. Gallagher, H. Wilson, H. Salhanick and L. Engel for agreeing to serve as Chairmen of the sessions.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Solid Phase Microextraction by : Janusz Pawliszyn
Download or read book Handbook of Solid Phase Microextraction written by Janusz Pawliszyn and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-12-01 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The relatively new technique of solid phase microextraction (SPME) is an important tool to prepare samples both in the lab and on-site. SPME is a "green" technology because it eliminates organic solvents from analytical laboratory and can be used in environmental, food and fragrance, and forensic and drug analysis. This handbook offers a thorough background of the theory and practical implementation of SPME. SPME protocols are presented outlining each stage of the method and providing useful tips and potential pitfalls. In addition, devices and fiber coatings, automated SPME systems, SPME method development, and In Vivo applications are discussed. This handbook is essential for its discussion of the latest SPME developments as well as its in depth information on the history, theory, and practical application of the method. Practical application of Solid Phase Microextraction methods including detailed steps Provides history of extraction methods to better understand the process Suitable for all levels, from beginning student to experienced practitioner

Book Synopsis Sample Preparation Techniques in Analytical Chemistry by : Somenath Mitra
Download or read book Sample Preparation Techniques in Analytical Chemistry written by Somenath Mitra and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2004-04-07 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The importance of accurate sample preparation techniques cannot be overstated--meticulous sample preparation is essential. Often overlooked, it is the midway point where the analytes from the sample matrix are transformed so they are suitable for analysis. Even the best analytical techniques cannot rectify problems generated by sloppy sample pretreatment. Devoted entirely to teaching and reinforcing these necessary pretreatment steps, Sample Preparation Techniques in Analytical Chemistry addresses diverse aspects of this important measurement step. These include: * State-of-the-art extraction techniques for organic and inorganic analytes * Sample preparation in biological measurements * Sample pretreatment in microscopy * Surface enhancement as a sample preparation tool in Raman and IR spectroscopy * Sample concentration and clean-up methods * Quality control steps Designed to serve as a text in an undergraduate or graduate level curriculum, Sample Preparation Techniques in Analytical Chemistry also provides an invaluable reference tool for analytical chemists in the chemical, biological, pharmaceutical, environmental, and materials sciences.
Book Synopsis Hormonally Active Agents in the Environment by : National Research Council
Download or read book Hormonally Active Agents in the Environment written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2000-02-03 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some investigators have hypothesized that estrogens and other hormonally active agents found in the environment might be involved in breast cancer increases and sperm count declines in humans as well as deformities and reproductive problems seen in wildlife. This book looks in detail at the science behind the ominous prospect of "estrogen mimics" threatening health and well-being, from the level of ecosystems and populations to individual people and animals. The committee identifies research needs and offers specific recommendations to decision-makers. This authoritative volume: Critically evaluates the literature on hormonally active agents in the environment and identifies known and suspected toxicologic mechanisms and effects of fish, wildlife, and humans. Examines whether and how exposure to hormonally active agents occursâ€"in diet, in pharmaceuticals, from industrial releases into the environmentâ€"and why the debate centers on estrogens. Identifies significant uncertainties, limitations of knowledge, and weaknesses in the scientific literature. The book presents a wealth of information and investigates a wide range of examples across the spectrum of life that might be related to these agents.
