Book excerpt: Neutrinos play a key role in many areas of particle physics, nuclear physics and astrophysics. The recent discovery of neutrino oscillation has given the first hint of new physics beyond the standard model. Clearly, it is extremely important to study further the oscillation and other fundamental properties of neutrinos. It is also important to improve our knowledge of neutrino-nucleus reactions, which are crucial for understanding a large class of astrophysical phenomena. These and many other interesting questions can be investigated at stopped pion neutrino facilities like the one planned for the Spallation Neutron Source at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The purpose of the Carolina Symposium was twofold: (1) to explore and exchange ideas on the latest developments in general frontiers of neutrino physics and related fields; (2) to address specific issues pertaining to the above-mentioned stopped pion neutrino facility. Among the topics covered in the proceedings are: cosmology and neutrino; standard model tests with neutrinos; neutrino oscillation, experiments and theories; dark matter search; double beta-decay; rare events detection techniques; the solar neutrino problem; supernova explosion; nucleosynthesis; and the ORLaND project. Book Synopsis Multiwavelength Approach to Unidentified Gamma-Ray Sources by : K.S. Cheng
Download or read book Multiwavelength Approach to Unidentified Gamma-Ray Sources written by K.S. Cheng and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-12-05 with total page 439 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nearly one half of the point-like gamma-ray sources detected by EGRET instrument of the late Compton satellite are still defeating our attempts at identifying them. To establish the origin and nature of these enigmatic sources has become a major problem of current high-energy astrophysics. The second workshop on Multiwavelength Approach to Unidentified Gamma-ray Sources intends to shed new and fresh light on the problem of the nature of the unidentified gamma-ray sources. The proceedings contain 46 contributed papers in this subject, which cover theoretical models on gamma-ray sources as well as the best multiwavelength strategies for the identification of the promising candidates. The topics of this conference also include energetic phenomena occurring both in galactic and extragalactic scenarios, phenomena that might lead to the appearance of what we have called high-energy unidentified sources. The book will be of interest for all active researchers in the high-energy astrophysics and related research areas as well as for scientists and graduate students interested in understanding the recent progress in high-energy astrophysics.
Book Synopsis Neutrino Oscillations And Their Origin, Proceedings Of The 2nd International Workshop (Noon2000) by : K Kaneyuki
Download or read book Neutrino Oscillations And Their Origin, Proceedings Of The 2nd International Workshop (Noon2000) written by K Kaneyuki and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001-12-21 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this workshop was to put together the efforts from various fields necessary for understanding neutrino oscillations in detail, from both experimental and theoretical points of view. One of the main experimental issues was to understand the absolute flux of both the atmospheric and the solar neutrinos in order to obtain detailed parameter information on neutrino oscillations. The proceedings contain many discussions on phenomenology and theories about neutrino mass and oscillations. The topics include: solar neutrino oscillations; neutrino mixing and the neutrino mass matrices; the origin of the neutrino masses; long baseline neutrino oscillation experiments; KamLAND and low energy neutrino measurements. Related subjects such as μ-eγ experiments and proton decay are also discussed.

Book Synopsis Neutrino Physics - Proceedings Of Nobel Symposium 129 by : Lars Bergstrom
Download or read book Neutrino Physics - Proceedings Of Nobel Symposium 129 written by Lars Bergstrom and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2006-03-27 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nobel Symposium 129 on Neutrino Physics was held at Haga Slott in Enköping, Sweden during August 19-24, 2004. Invited to the symposium were around 40 globally leading researchers in the field of neutrino physics, both experimental and theoretical. The dominant theme of the lectures was neutrino oscillations, which after several years were recently verified by results from the Super-Kamiokande detector in Kamioka, Japan and the SNO detector in Sudbury, Canada. Discussion focused especially on effects of neutrino oscillations derived from the presence of matter and the fact that three different neutrinos exist. Since neutrino oscillations imply that neutrinos have mass, this is the first experimental observation that fundamentally deviates from the standard model of particle physics. This is a challenge to both theoretical and experimental physics. The various oscillation parameters will be determined with increased precision in new, specially designed experiments. Theoretical physics is working intensively to insert the knowledge that neutrinos have mass into the theoretical models that describe particle physics. The lectures provided a very good description of the intensive situation in the field right now. The topics discussed also included mass models for neutrinos, neutrinos in extra dimensions as well as the “seesaw mechanism,” which provides a good description of why neutrino masses are so small. This book is A4 size and in full color.

This book was released on 2011-12-01 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These proceedings will be of interest to High Energy Physicists, Faculty and post doctoral researchers working in the area of neutrino physics, muon physics, and Accelerator Engineers involved in the design and construction of muon colliders, and neutrino factories. Recently, the neutrino physics has undergone many important developments having far reaching consequences in our understanding of standard model of particle physics. New next generation experiments involving neutrinos are being planned, wherein decisive and precision measurements are required to explore the physics beyond the standard model of particle physics. Neutrino beams of high intensity as well as quality and purity are required for these. The present workshop is a part of the series of annual meetings, the international workshop on Neutrino Factories, Super-beams, beta-beams (NUFACT) devoted to discuss the physics, accelerator and detector technologies of novel and conventional neutrino beams. In addition, the physics of neutrino scattering and experiments involving intense muon beams were also discussed in this meeting.
