A man from Oklahoma says he's thinking about getting in a game of poker with some people he met from Panamá City and Tampa, Florida. He warned the man to stay away from those people. They were violent hoods. Some people just won't listen Scream Muddy Murder Clint gets a call from Tonio, in David. There was a scream in the wee hours, about three thirty, from the Muddy River in Pedrigal. A man's body was found on the muddy bank, electrocuted, it seemed. There? There was no electricity on that side of the river Dead Reckoning Clint and family are at their place in Quebrada Tula. Basilio, from Cusapín, is visiting. At sunset, Basilio says there is going to be trouble. It will involve people on the comarca, but will not be from the comarca. Clint remembers other times when Basilio made predictions, based on a special sunset. He figured he could depend on hearing about exactly that. - Then, the body. A Grave Mistake Clint and Tyna are having a meal in La Tipica, when a woman at a near table makes a number of loud complaints about the people at a close table. Considering who the people were at the close table, Tyna says she's making a grave mistake to be denigrating those people. She didn't mean "grave" the way it turned out. Dead Tired Clint is talking with a man in the Lemon Grass Restaurante. The man says he doesn't know what's wrong with him, lately. He always seems to be dead tired. The doctors can't find anything wrong, and have been prescribing vitamins and mild stimulants. He keeps having wild dreams that leave him exhausted. He's tired, but can't sleep, in the daytime. Two days later, he's dead. He died in his sleep - while driving his ATV.

Music, movies, graphic novels, and magazines for teens are now commonplace in libraries, and librarians are in a unique position to go beyond simply providing teens with access to them; they can engage teens in creating and sharing their own original content. Written in a light, accessible manner, this book empowers youth services librarians to do just that. Murder Mystery, Graphic Novels, and More provides instruction on hosting creative workshops dedicated to creating and publishing graphic novels; writing and performing interactive murder mystery events; creating animation films; and more—all within a reasonable budget. The chapter on creating graphic novels is itself an original graphic novel drawn by the author, who is also a comic book artist, and a portion of the book lists and explains different "creativity games" both short and long that may be used as everything from icebreakers to exercises to programs in their own right.

Book excerpt: A criminal behavior expert teams up with an NYPD detective to track down a criminal in the novel that inspired the hit CBS TV series starring Alan Cumming. Dr. Dylan Reinhart wrote the book on criminal behavior. Literally: he's a renowned, bestselling Ivy League expert on the subject. When a copy of his book turns up at a gruesome murder scene-along with a threatening message from the killer-it looks like someone has been taking notes. Elizabeth Needham is the headstrong and brilliant NYPD Detective in charge of the case who recruits Dylan to help investigate another souvenir left at the scene: a playing card. Another murder, another card. . . and now Dylan suspects that the cards aren't a signature; they're a deadly hint pointing directly toward the next victim. As tabloid headlines about the killer known as "The Dealer" scream from newsstands, New York City descends into panic. With the cops at a loss, it's up to Dylan to hunt down a serial killer unlike any the city has ever seen. Only someone with Dylan's expertise can hope to go inside the mind of a criminal and convince The Dealer to lay down his cards. But after thinking like a criminal, could Dylan become one? A heart-pounding novel of suspense more shocking than any tabloid true crime story, Instinct introduces the next unforgettable character from the imagination of James Patterson, the world's #1 bestselling author.

Twelve days of Christmas. But how many will die before Twelfth Night? Agatha Christie meets Clue in this delightful, tense manor house murder mystery. The annual Christmas Game is afoot at Endgame House, the Armitages' grand family home. This year's prize is to die for—deeds to the house itself—but Lily Armitage has no intention of returning. She hasn't been back to Endgame since her mother died, twenty-one years ago, and she has no intention of claiming the house that haunts her dreams. Until, that is, she receives a letter from her aunt promising that the game's riddles will give her the keys not only to Endgame, but to its darkest secrets, including the identity of her mother's murderer. Now, Lily must compete with her estranged cousins for the twelve days of Christmas. The snow is thick, the phone lines are down, and no one is getting in or out. Lily will have to keep her wits about her, because not everyone is playing fair, and there's no telling how many will die before the winner is declared. Including additional scavenger hunts for the reader, this clever murder mystery is the perfect gift for fans of classic mysteries, festive Christmas books, and armchair detective work.

Book excerpt: "While the sabermetrics revolution in baseball is now fully institutionalized, other sports have embraced data analysis more slowly-especially American football. Yet thirty-five years ago, Bob Carroll, John Thorn, and Pete Palmer were laying the groundwork for the transformation of the sport when they wrote The Hidden Game of Football. Readers in 1988 found this book to be staggering, with myths and misconceptions 'left strewn in the wake of their analysis like the Columbia University secondary after a running play' (Allen Barra). Today, with statistical analysis becoming more widely accepted across the NFL, the book seems prescient and influential--as Aaron Schatz notes in his new foreword"--

Simpson: American Crime Story, based on Jeffrey Toobin's The Run of His Life and starring Cuba Gooding, Jr., John Travolta, David Schwimmer, and Courtney B. Vance. Named on Vogue Magazine's "American Crime Story Reading List" as one of the "eight definitive books on the trial of the century." Twenty years ago, America was captivated by the awful drama of the O.J. Simpson trial. The Simpson "Dream Team" legal defense had a seemingly impossible task: convincing a jury that their client was innocent of the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman. In order for O.J. Simpson to get away with murder, the defense attorneys had to destroy the reputation of Mark Fuhrman, a brilliant Los Angeles detective who was the lead on the murder scene and had collected overwhelming physical evidence against Simpson. Now Fuhrman tells his side of the story in the #1 New York Times bestseller Murder in Brentwood, a damning exposé that reveals why and how Simpson's prosecution was bungled. Fuhrman offers a sincere mea culpa for allowing his personal mistakes to become a focal point of the defense's strategy but also stands by the evidence he collected, writing: "One thing I will not apologize for is my policework on the O.J. Simpson case." With Fuhrman's own hand-drawn maps of the crime scene, his reconstruction of the murders, and interrogation transcripts, Murder in Brentwood is the book that sets the record straight about what really happened on June 12, 1994—and reveals why the O.J. Simpson trial was such a catastrophe.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the beginning of August 1907, an early-morning train from Monte Carlo pulled into the Gare Saint-Charles in Marseilles. A trunk with a forwarding address was taken to the baggage section to await transportation. Some hours later a station employee, Louis Pons, noticed blood dripping from the trunk. The police were called and, on opening it, discovered a naked female corpse. The head and legs were missing. Thus began the investigation into a sensational case which drew the attention of newspapers the world over. An army of reporters congregated in Marseilles and Monte Carlo to chronicle every twist and turn of the murder inquiry and subsequent trial. From the notorious casino, the trail led to Marseilles, London, Liverpool, Canada – and ultimately to County Cork and Waterford. The couple arrested for the crime were Vere St Leger Goold, an Irish aristocrat, and his French wife Marie Giroudin. He was a former Irish Open tennis champion and Wimbledon finalist whose great promise in life had disintegrated into a mire of drink, drugs and gambling. His wife was a con artist, always one step ahead of the financial posse. This fascinating tale involves the components of forensic science, psychological profiling, judicial investigation and global reporting of historical character with a very contemporary echo.
