Download or read book Game Theory and Business Applications written by Kalyan Chatterjee and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-26 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Game theory has been applied to a growing list of practical problems, from antitrust analysis to monetary policy; from the design of auction institutions to the structuring of incentives within firms; from patent races to dispute resolution. The purpose of Game Theory and Business Applications is to show how game theory can be used to model and analyze business decisions. The contents of this revised edition contain a wide variety of business functions – from accounting to operations, from marketing to strategy to organizational design. In addition, specific application areas include market competition, law and economics, bargaining and dispute resolution, and competitive bidding. All of these applications involve competitive decision settings, specifically situations where a number of economic agents in pursuit of their own self-interests and in accordance with the institutional “rules of the game” take actions that together affect all of their fortunes. As this volume demonstrates, game theory provides a compelling guide for analyzing business decisions and strategies.
Book Synopsis Introducing Game Theory and its Applications by : Elliott Mendelson
Download or read book Introducing Game Theory and its Applications written by Elliott Mendelson and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-08-02 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This classic text, originally from the noted logician Elliot Mendelson, is intended to be an easy-to-read introduction to the basic ideas and techniques of game theory. It can be used as a class textbook or for self-study. Introducing Game Theory and its Applications, Second Edition presents an easy-to-read introduction to the basic ideas and techniques of game theory. After a brief introduction, the authors begin with a chapter devoted to combinatorial games--a topic neglected or treated minimally in most other texts. The focus then shifts to two-person zero-sum games and their solutions. Here the authors present the simplex method based on linear programming for solving these games and develop within this presentation the required background. The final chapter presents some of the fundamental ideas and tools of non-zero-sum games and games with more than two players, including an introduction to cooperative game theory. The book is suitable for a first undergraduate course in game theory, or a graduate course for students with limited previous exposure. It is useful for students who need to learn some game theory for a related subject (e.g., microeconomics) and have a limited mathematical background. It also prepares its readers for more advanced study of game theory's applications in economics, business, and the physical, biological, and social sciences. The authors hope this book breeds curiosity about the subject as its design is meant to to satisfy the readers. The book will prepare readers for deeper study of game theory applications in many fields of study.
Book Synopsis Search Games and Other Applications of Game Theory by : Andrey Garnaev
Download or read book Search Games and Other Applications of Game Theory written by Andrey Garnaev and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is on applications of game theory. The title of this book is not "Game Theory and its Applications" because it does not construct a general theory for considered games. The book contains a lot of examples of applica tion of game theory together with the background of those games considered and a list of unsolved problems. Also we consider only the game where the optimal strategies of the players are found in closed form. This book is an attempt to carryon the approach developed in nice books "Search Games" by Gal and "Geometric Games and their Applications" by Ruckle. The first chapter of this book supplies the required definitions and theorems from game theory. The second chapter deals with discrete search games where both players act simultaneously: the games of protection of a channel from infiltration of a submarine, the submarine versus helicopter game, the matrix search games and others. The third chapter considers the game where the players allocate their contin uous efforts. In these games players face up an alternative either not to come into contest if the cost of efforts seems too high, or come into it. In the last case the player have to decide how much resources they can afford to spend. The allocation models of search, antiballistic protection and marketing are investigated.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Game theory, defined in the broadest sense, is a collection of mathematical models designed for the analysis of strategic aspects of situations of conflict and cooperation in a broad spectrum of fields including economics, politics, biology, engineering, and operations research. This book, besides covering the classical results of game theory, places special emphasis on methods of determining `solutions' of various game models. Generalizations reaching beyond the `convexity paradigm' and leading to nonconvex optimization problems are enhanced and discussed in more detail than in standard texts on this subject. The development is theoretical-mathematical interspersed with elucidating interpretations and examples. Audience: The material in the book is accessible to PhD and graduate students and will also be of interest to researchers. Solid knowledge of standard undergraduate mathematics is required to read the book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essay from the year 2016 in the subject Communications - Public Relations, Advertising, Marketing, Social Media, grade: 1,0, The University of Hong Kong, language: English, abstract: The on-going process of technological innovation and expansion combined with a more and more fast-paced, dynamic and global world result in a slow take over of computers and artificial intelligence in fundamental human task areas. One example of how technological progress invades into our daily life is the invention of dating applications that enhance the search for a possible relationship partner by providing a distinct platform for people with similar purposes. Since the interaction on these platforms are simultaneous actions of a group of human beings that yield a specific result – getting to know possible partners – the situation can be analysed from a game theoretic perspective. During this paper I will firstly elaborate on the underlying assumptions of my model. Afterwards I am developing a formal framework that allows to explore the phenomenon from a rather objective and rational perspective. The quintessence of this setup is that the problem at hand can be identified as a repeated collective prisoners’ dilemma or an example of the tragedy of commons. In a final step I will provide several possible solutions to improve the efficiency of the analysed market / social interactions. Two of these approaches are very game theoretical, while I also included two more market-oriented approaches to provide a multidimensional perspective on the issue.

Book Synopsis Game Theory Approach to Managerial Strategies and Value Creation by : Abdelhakim Hammoudi

This book was released on 2018-03-13 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Economic players must often choose between several strategic options in a fierce competitive environment where interactions with competitors make decisions particularly complex. Game theory offers useful insights to choose an optimal decision or at least a basis for making rational decision given the constraints of the stakeholders' environment. In presenting the concepts and the logical structure of the reasoning offered by game theory and their applications, the book explains the rational process of decision making in the framework of firm management and market competition. By avoiding the usual complexity of presentation often due to mathematical formalism, the book proposes a reflection and practical insights of game theory for practitioners (managers, strategists) and social, managerial and economic researchers. The book will expose both general teachings and a comprehensive analysis applied to specific case studies of various sectors of the economy.
