Book Synopsis American Spring by : Walter R. Borneman
Download or read book American Spring written by Walter R. Borneman and published by Little, Brown. This book was released on 2014-05-06 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A vibrant look at the American Revolution's first months, from the author of the bestseller The Admirals. When we reflect on our nation's history, the American Revolution can feel almost like a foregone conclusion. In reality, the first weeks and months of 1775 were very tenuous, and a fractured and ragtag group of colonial militias had to coalesce rapidly to have even the slimmest chance of toppling the mighty British Army. American Spring follows a fledgling nation from Paul Revere's little-known ride of December 1774 and the first shots fired on Lexington Green through the catastrophic Battle of Bunker Hill, culminating with a Virginian named George Washington taking command of colonial forces on July 3, 1775. Focusing on the colorful heroes John Hancock, Samuel Adams, Mercy Otis Warren, Benjamin Franklin, and Patrick Henry, and the ordinary Americans caught up in the revolution, Walter R. Borneman uses newly available sources and research to tell the story of how a decade of discontent erupted into an armed rebellion that forged our nation.
Book Synopsis Characteristics of Extrinsic Fabry-Perot Interferometric (EFPI) Fiber-Optic Strain Gages by : David A. Hare
Download or read book Characteristics of Extrinsic Fabry-Perot Interferometric (EFPI) Fiber-Optic Strain Gages written by David A. Hare and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For years, resistance based strain sensors have been used for the measurement of strain. The resistance-type strain gage provides a very reliable and accurate measurement of strain, but as with any instrument it has its limitations. Extrinsic Fabry-Perot Interferometric (EFPI) fiber-optic strain sensors are now commercially available from several manufacturers. Fiber-optic strain gages have stated advantages over resistance based strain gages, including immunity to electromagnetic interference (EMI) and leakage to ground. This paper presents a limited performance comparison between the (Fabry-Perot type) fiber-optic strain gage and the traditional resistance strain gage. The evaluation was limited to load testing at room temperature and apparent strain characterization cryogenically and at elevated temperatures.
