This book was released on 2020 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Fundamentals of Structural Integrity and Failure provides a comprehensive review of spent nuclear fuel integrity and the research work which has been carried out in the important area of spent nuclear fuel integrity management. Additionally, the authors review the key aspects of fatigue crack nucleation and the fracture mechanics of short- and long-crack growth, with emphasis on achieving total fatigue life prediction. The fundamental aspects of mathematical modeling, computation, measurement, and signal processing involved in the process of integrity assessment of engineering structures in the presence of uncertainty are presented. Following this, several proposed techniques for the detection of the defects in ferromagnetic steel components are analyzed. One of these possible approaches is based on the additional magnetization of the inspected zone to minimize magnetic heterogeneity, and another trend is concerned with new selective Eddy current probe development. The capabilities of nondestructive testing techniques based on coercive force measurements concerned with several new applications are discussed. This concluding work demonstrates the use of a judicious and effective method for detecting pressure vessel failures, applying Wiener filter concepts to noisy signals"--

Book Synopsis Damage Tolerance of Metallic Aircraft Structures by : Sérgio M. O. Tavares
Download or read book Damage Tolerance of Metallic Aircraft Structures written by Sérgio M. O. Tavares and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-08-06 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a state-of-the-art review of the fail-safe and damage tolerance approaches, allowing weight savings and increasing aircraft reliability and structural integrity. The application of the damage tolerance approach requires extensive know-how of the fatigue and fracture properties, corrosion strength, potential failure modes and non-destructive inspection techniques, particularly minimum detectable defect and inspection intervals. In parallel, engineering practice involving damage tolerance requires numerical techniques for stress analysis of cracked structures. These evolved from basic mode I evaluations using rough finite element approaches, to current 3D modeling based on energetic approaches as the VCCT, or simulation of joining processes. This book provides a concise introduction to this subject.
Book Synopsis An Introduction to Structural Mechanics for Architects by : Elías Cueto
Download or read book An Introduction to Structural Mechanics for Architects written by Elías Cueto and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-05-23 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook offers an introductory course to structural mechanics for architects, including problems and solutions. It follows a completely different approach to structural mechanics than the usual books for engineering schools, making it much more attractive for architecture students and practitioners. It also offers a different point of view for engineering students, as it provides them with a more intuitive understanding of structural mechanics and the models therein.Instead of studying the classical theory of linear elasticity and then particularizing it to simple structures, this book analyzes structures in a historic and also typological order. The book starts with cable structures and stone arches, followed by trusses and, finally, frame structures made of beams. For every typology, the latest, state-of-the-art theory in the field is introduced in a very didactic way.

Book Synopsis Structural Integrity and Failure by : Resat Oyguc
Download or read book Structural Integrity and Failure written by Resat Oyguc and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2021-02-10 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structural integrity and failure assessment have been considered by many fields of engineers as it is a multi-disciplinary concept. The assessment procedure vitally ensures that structural elements will remain functional throughout their service lives. Structural failure refers to the loss of structural integrity by means of loss at the component- or system-level elements. The main concern of integrity assessment is that a structural failure may be avoided at the service level by designing the structure to withstand its designated loads. Hence, for satisfactory structural performance, structural safety, failure, and interaction between them should be considered throughout the design and analysis stages. This book is a collection of chapters that provide the researcher with a comprehensive perspective on structural integrity and its sub-disciplines.

Book Synopsis Structural Integrity and Reliability in Electronics by : W.J. Plumbridge
Download or read book Structural Integrity and Reliability in Electronics written by W.J. Plumbridge and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-05-08 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Knowledge itself is soon obsolete; It is a blunt instrument. Only by understanding can problems be solved and progress achieved. Reliability in performance of electronic equipment, in the face of demands for continuing miniaturisation and the anticipated abolition of lead containing solders, represents a major engineering challenge. The involvement of numerous disciplines; such as electrical, electronic, mechanical, manufacturing, and materials engineering together with physicists and computer specialists, adds to the complexity of the situation. Nevertheless, with electronics being the World's largest industrial sector, the potential rewards to the winners are substantial. This book aims to provide the ingredients for understanding, together with knowledge of reliability in interconnection technology and of the implementation of lead free solders. It is strongly contended that such a combination forms the necessary basis for greater structural integrity and enhanced performance The text is essentially in three parts: The intentions of the Part I component {The Materials Perspective, Chapters 1 6) are to present a snapshot of the current, but rapidly changing, global scene and to establish a firm understanding of the fundamentals surrounding interconnection performance. With potential readers possessing a broad spectrum of knowledge and expertise, this is essential. It could be argued that the reason for the limited progress made in this field to date has been due to the difficulties encountered in communicating effectively across the discipline boundaries.
