Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an indispensable source for anyone with an interest in semigroup theory or whose research overlaps with this increasingly important and active field of mathematics. It clearly emphasizes "pure" semigroup theory, in particular the various classes of regular semigroups. More than 150 exercises, accompanied by relevant references to the literature, give pointers to areas of the subject not explicitly covered in the text.

Book Synopsis Semi-Groups of Operators and Approximation by : Paul Leo Butzer
Download or read book Semi-Groups of Operators and Approximation written by Paul Leo Butzer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years important progress has been made in the study of semi-groups of operators from the viewpoint of approximation theory. These advances have primarily been achieved by introducing the theory of intermediate spaces. The applications of the theory not only permit integration of a series of diverse questions from many domains of mathematical analysis but also lead to significant new results on classical approximation theory, on the initial and boundary behavior of solutions of partial differential equations, and on the theory of singular integrals. The aim of this book is to present a systematic treatment of semi groups of bounded linear operators on Banach spaces and their connec tions with approximation theoretical questions in a more classical setting as well as within the setting of the theory of intermediate spaces. However, no attempt is made to present an exhaustive account of the theory of semi-groups of operators per se, which is the central theme of the monumental treatise by HILLE and PHILLIPS (1957). Neither has it been attempted to give an account of the theory of approximation as such. A number of excellent books on various aspects of the latter theory has appeared in recent years, so for example CHENEY (1966), DAVIS (1963), LORENTZ (1966), MEINARDUS (1964), RICE (1964), SARD (1963). By contrast, the present book is primarily concerned with those aspects of semi-group theory that are connected in some way or other with approximation.
Book Synopsis Techniques of Semigroup Theory by : Peter M. Higgins
Download or read book Techniques of Semigroup Theory written by Peter M. Higgins and published by Clarendon Press. This book was released on 1992 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces recently developed ideas and techniques in semigroup theory, providing a handy reference guide previously unavailable in a single volume. The opening chapter provides sufficient background to enable the reader to follow any of the subsequent chapters, and would by itself be suitable for a first course in semigroup theory. The second chapter gives an account of free inverse semigroups leading to proofs of the McAlister P-theorems. Subsequent chapters have the underlying theme of diagrams and mappings, and the new material includes the theory of biordered sets of Nambooripad and Easdown, the semigroup diagrams of Remmers and Jackson with applications to the one-relator, and other word problems, a short proof of Isbell's Zigzag theorem with applications to epimorphisms and amalgams, together with combinatorial, probabilistic and graphical techniques used to prove results including Schein's Covering Theorem and Howie's Gravity Formula for finite full transformation semigroups. Nearly two hundred exercises serve the dual purpose of illustrating the richness of the subject while allowing the reader to come to grips with the material.

Book Synopsis Inverse Semigroups, The Theory Of Partial Symmetries by : Mark V Lawson
Download or read book Inverse Semigroups, The Theory Of Partial Symmetries written by Mark V Lawson and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1998-11-06 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Symmetry is one of the most important organising principles in the natural sciences. The mathematical theory of symmetry has long been associated with group theory, but it is a basic premise of this book that there are aspects of symmetry which are more faithfully represented by a generalization of groups called inverse semigroups. The theory of inverse semigroups is described from its origins in the foundations of differential geometry through to its most recent applications in combinatorial group theory, and the theory tilings.

Book Synopsis Representation Theory of Finite Groups by : Benjamin Steinberg
Download or read book Representation Theory of Finite Groups written by Benjamin Steinberg and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-10-23 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended to present group representation theory at a level accessible to mature undergraduate students and beginning graduate students. This is achieved by mainly keeping the required background to the level of undergraduate linear algebra, group theory and very basic ring theory. Module theory and Wedderburn theory, as well as tensor products, are deliberately avoided. Instead, we take an approach based on discrete Fourier Analysis. Applications to the spectral theory of graphs are given to help the student appreciate the usefulness of the subject. A number of exercises are included. This book is intended for a 3rd/4th undergraduate course or an introductory graduate course on group representation theory. However, it can also be used as a reference for workers in all areas of mathematics and statistics.

Book Synopsis A Gentle Introduction to Group Theory by : Bana Al Subaiei
Download or read book A Gentle Introduction to Group Theory written by Bana Al Subaiei and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-05-31 with total page 429 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is intended to serve as an introductory course in group theory geared towards second-year university students. It aims to provide them with the background needed to pursue more advanced courses in algebra and to provide a rich source of examples and exercises. Studying group theory began in the late eighteenth century and is still gaining importance due to its applications in physics, chemistry, geometry, and many fields in mathematics. The text is broadly divided into three parts. The first part establishes the prerequisite knowledge required to study group theory. This includes topics in set theory, geometry, and number theory. Each of the chapters ends with solved and unsolved exercises relating to the topic. By doing this, the authors hope to fill the gaps between all the branches in mathematics that are linked to group theory. The second part is the core of the book which discusses topics on semigroups, groups, symmetric groups, subgroups, homomorphisms, isomorphism, and Abelian groups. The last part of the book introduces SAGE, a mathematical software that is used to solve group theory problems. Here, most of the important commands in SAGE are explained, and many examples and exercises are provided.
