Book Synopsis Fluid Mechanics of Viscoplasticity by : Raja R. Huilgol
Download or read book Fluid Mechanics of Viscoplasticity written by Raja R. Huilgol and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-04-14 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book considers the kinematics and dynamics of the flows of fluids exhibiting a yield stress. Continuum mechanics governing the fluid mechanics is described. Two chapters are dedicated to analytical solutions to several steady and unsteady flows of viscoplastic fluids, including flows with pressure-dependent rheological parameters. Perturbation methods, variational inequalities to solve fluid flow problems, and the use of energy methods are discussed. Numerical modeling using augmented Lagrangian, operator splitting, finite difference, and lattice Boltzmann methods are employed. The second edition provides new sections on flows of yield stress fluids with pressure-dependent rheological parameters, on flows with wall slip, and on deriving the fundamental equations for Boltzmann lattice materials. Furthermore new material on the lubrication approximation and applications of finite differences has been added.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents advances in state-of-the-art solution methods and their applications to real life practical problems in optimization, control and operations research. Contributions from world-class experts in the field are collated here in two parts, dealing first with optimization and control theory and then with techniques and applications. Topics covered in the first part include control theory on infinite dimensional Banach spaces, history-dependent inclusion and linear programming complexity theory. Chapters also explore the use of approximations of Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman inequality for solving periodic optimization problems and look at multi-objective semi-infinite optimization problems and production planning problems. In the second part, the authors address techniques and applications of optimization and control in a variety of disciplines, such as chaos synchronization, facial expression recognition and dynamic input-output economic models. Other applications considered here include image retrieval, natural earth satellites orbital transfers, snap-back repellers and modern logistic systems. Readers will learn of advances in optimization, control and operations research, as well as potential new avenues of research and development. The book will appeal to scientific researchers, mathematicians and all specialists interested in the latest advances in optimization and control.

Book Synopsis Variational-Hemivariational Inequalities with Applications by : Mircea Sofonea
Download or read book Variational-Hemivariational Inequalities with Applications written by Mircea Sofonea and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-10-23 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research monograph represents an outcome of the cross-fertilization between nonlinear functional analysis and mathematical modelling, and demonstrates its application to solid and contact mechanics. Based on authors’ original results, it introduces a general fixed point principle and its application to various nonlinear problems in analysis and mechanics. The classes of history-dependent operators and almost history-dependent operators are exposed in a large generality. A systematic and unified presentation contains a carefully-selected collection of new results on variational-hemivariational inequalities with or without unilateral constraints. A wide spectrum of static, quasistatic, dynamic contact problems for elastic, viscoelastic and viscoplastic materials illustrates the applicability of these theoretical results. Written for mathematicians, applied mathematicians, engineers and scientists, it is also a valuable tool for graduate students and researchers in nonlinear analysis, mathematical modelling, mechanics of solids, and contact mechanics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains 44 papers presented at the Third Contact Mechanics International Symposium (CMIS 2001) held in Praia da Consola9ao, Peniche (portugal), June 17-21,2001. This Symposium was the direct continuation of the first two CMIS held in Lausanne (1992) and in Carry-Le-Rouet (1994). Other related meetings, in what concerns scientific topics and participants, took place in the nineties at La Grande Motte (1990), Vadstena (1996), Ferrara (1997), Munich (1998) and Grenoble (1999). The Symposium aimed at gathering researchers with interests in a wide range of topics in theoretical, computational and experimental contact mechanics. The call for papers mentioned topics in tribology, mathematical formulations and analysis, numerical methods in non-smooth mechanics, impact problems, instabilities and technological problems. The total number of participants was 102, from Universities and Research Institutes of 19 countries. The Scientific Committee reviewed 102 submitted abstracts, and the final program consisted of 6 main lectures, 43 oral communications and 36 poster presentations (see Appendix A). The papers in this book correspond to almost all the main lectures and oral communications, and they are assembled in 5 chapters: • Dynamics and Impact • Instabilities, Oscillations and Waves • Contact Models, Results and Applications • Mathematical Analysis • Numerical Methods. We thank all the authors for their valuable contributions to this volume. We are indebted to the members of the Scientific Committee for their help in refereeing the submitted abstracts and manuscripts. We also thank the Series editor, Prof. Graham Gladwell, for his assistance in the revision process.
