Book excerpt: Emphasizing the character of the religion of Islam as consisting of faith and practice, this book analyzes thoroughly the five most important “pillars of Islam” that form the core of Islamic life, namely the profession of faith, the prayer, which is the first practical manifestation of faith, fasting, charity, and pilgrimage to Mecca. Explaining lucidly the necessity of fulfilling these “pillars” of Islam with the intention of pleasing God and purely for His sake, the author gives us insights into the moral, spiritual, psychological, physical, individual, and social aspects of these five central practices of Islamic worship in the context of our modern age of globalization.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The church is in disarray. Theologians and commentators speak of the demise of evangelicalism. Are they alarmists? Is Christianity as we know it in the process of dying? Writer, scholar, teacher, and missionary Dr. David Alan Black thinks that the answer does not lie in the politics of the left or the right. In fact, he doesn't think that Jesus tells us what our politics should be. He doesn't see answers in Christian nationalism. But even further, he sees serious flaws in the very structure of our churches and denominations that prevent us from truly being obedient to the gospel. The solution lies, not in renewal, revival, or even in reformation, but rather in restoration-a restoration of the church organized as Jesus intended it and according to the example provided by the earliest church sources in the New Testament. To make the church and its members true servants of Jesus Christ again, we need to change our entire paradigm-to The Jesus Paradigm.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two thousand years ago, a great light dawned in the spiritual history of humankind. His name was Jesus Christ. In Him, God assumed human form and made His presence known amongst us. By dying on a cross, Christ freed us fro the shackles of sin and death and restored union between heaven and earth. In doing so, He inherited a kingdom that is not of this world. As God's new spiritual temple, we body this reality. We are His prophets, priests, and kings. New Creation Spirituality is a groundbreaking new work on Christian faith from the author of The Mind of Christ: Christian Identity in the New Creation. By shedding fresh light on humanity's spiritual anointing, New Creation Spirituality offers a bold vision for belief that is at once modern, culturally engaging, and grounded in the timeless truths of Scripture. The mission of Jesus Christ is to destroy all darkness, sin, and death. By understanding our kingdom roles as prophets, priests, and kings, we become equipped and empowered to accomplish this mission alongside Him. As we partner with the ascended Christ, the glory of God and the fullness of His kingdom are manifest on earth.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How should Christians live? On the one hand, some very legalistic Christians stress the importance of keeping all the rules—that you must do this and never do that if you want to prove you are really a Christian. On the other hand, there are those who reject the whole idea of rules or traditions in the church and see the point of the Christian faith as setting us free from the institutionalized religious burden. But Paul addresses these two competing views by showing us a far better way—a truly Christian way to live our lives. It is the way of the Spirit of God given to us through Christ: "Walk by the Spirit . . . led by the Spirit . . . live by the Spirit . . . keep in step with the Spirit." That is the heart and soul of Christian living. It is the center and secret of what it means to be a person who belongs to Christ. Pastor and scholar Christopher Wright invites us to live a life in step with the Spirit by cultivating the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These nine chapters, each addressing a different fruit, each conclude with questions for contemplation or discussion. Feed on the Word of God, grow in Christlikeness, and live a fruitful life.

Book excerpt: The goal of this book is to introduce Gods Spiritual Fruit to children. In the process, it seemed like a good way to share knowledge about a selection of tropical fruit through art form. Most of the fruit was new to me, before I lived in The Virgin Islands for a few years. I hope children will learn about spiritual fruit-the Godly characteristics that are combined into one fruit, Gods fruit. The tropical fruit they will be presented on the pages are not to be connected to the Godly attributes given. My prayer is that we adults teach children as we demonstrate the nature of God in our daily walk of being fruitful. According to the New Living Translation of scripture, when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, He will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. I hope this book will encourage children to apply the attributes found here and also see how good the fruit of God is. Included on the pages are some tropical fruit that you may have never noticed in your local grocery store. Perhaps you have seen the fruit but never tasted it. This was my situation, until I lived in the Caribbean for a while. I learned that tropical fruit is closer to the equator and sunshine therefore; tropical fruit is more potent with vitamins. I did not realize what I was missing until I tasted the unfamiliar fruit. Hopefully, you will search for the different fruit in your local grocery or local cultural food store, or while you visit a Caribbean Island. Enjoy.

Book excerpt: Nutrients are essential components that are important in the body's functions and processes. Each of these nutrients performs a particular work to promote good health. Every day, the body produces skin, bones, and muscles. The body produces red blood cells that carry oxygen and important nutrients throughout the body; it sends out nerve signals and formulates chemical messengers to and from the brain. All these bodily processes require raw materials, which turns into energy. Do you wonder where your body gets all the energy from? Do you wonder where your spirit gets all the energy from? Food is the primary source of the body's energy. The Word is the primary source of the spiritual energy. Energy comes from the food people consume, the water they drink, and the air they breathe. The love we have, the peace we bring, the joy within, the kindness we give, the patience we sustain, the goodness we portray, the gentleness we portray, the faithfulness we stand on, and the self-control we adhere to are all necessary for our spiritual survival for the times we are living in. Aside from that, the body needs essential vitamins and minerals to function properly. Carbohydrates is your love and joy, the main source for the brain. Fats often get a bad reputation but supports many body processes such as blood clotting, building cells, absorption of vitamins and minerals, and the movement of the muscles. This is your peace and patience. Protein provides the building blocks of the body. Each cell in the body contains protein, and it's important for health, growth and body maintenance. This is your kindness and goodness. Vitamins are crucial for warding off disease, and not getting enough of them can cause a wide array of diseases and health problems. Minerals aid in the functions of the body, including metabolism, staying properly hydrated and building strong teeth and bones. This is your gentleness and faithfulness. Water is important in the body. It's considered a vital nutrient the body can't survive without. The doctors recommend drinking eight to ten glasses of water daily to promote optimum health. This is your self-control. Have a fruit a day; it will keep the doctor away.

The results of this creative, humble activity are now summarized in this remarkable book, Fruits and Gifts of the Spirit. As Father Keating says, the spiritual journey is a gradual process of enlarging our emotional, mental, and physical relationship with the divine reality that is present in us, but one not ordinarily accessible to our emotions or concepts. The spiritual journey teaches us, first, to believe in the Divine Indwelling within us, fully present and energizing every level of our being; second, to recognize that this energy is benign, healing, and transforming; and third, to enjoy its gradual unfolding step-by-step both in prayer and action.

Book excerpt: Why are so many Christians stagnant in their faith? Why do we often live as though the gospel stops at the moment of conversion? The good news of Jesus doesn’t stop the moment we get saved. In fact, salvation is only the beginning of God’s work in our lives. We often view salvation as the ending point; it’s really the beginning point. The gospel of Jesus doesn’t only justify us; it sanctifies us. When we receive the Holy Spirit at salvation, an incredible work begins to happen in us: we begin to bear fruit. When we are firmly planted in the gospel and committed to growing in Christ, He produces in us the fruits of the Spirit, the marks of a true Christian. In Bearing Fruit, Robby Gallaty walks us through the life of the Christian. Biblical, intentional, and practical, Bearing Fruit points our hearts to the gracious God who called us, justified us, and is now sanctifying us by the work of his Holy Spirit.
