Anliegen des Wörterbuchs war die Bereitstellung möglichst vieler Vokabeln, doch auch die Beschränkung auf die wichtigsten Fakten innerhalb der Einträge. Bei den Bedeutungsangaben wurde selektiv verfahren. Die einzelnen Artikel differieren in ihrem Umfang. Die Maximalstruktur umfaßt folgende Angaben: Stichwort; Variante(n); grammatische Kennzeichnung; Übersetzung(en); Erklärung(en); bei Fachlexik die Angabe des Fachgebietes; dialektale/geographische Zuordnung; sprachliche Herkunft, sachliche Einordnung; Quellensigle(n).
