Download or read book The 17 Day Diet written by Dr Mike Moreno and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2011-05-12 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr Mike Moreno's 17 Day Dietis a revolutionary new weight-loss programme that activates your skinny gene so that you burn fat day in and day out. The diet is structured around four 17-day cycles: Accelerate- the rapid weight loss portion that helps flush sugar and fat storage from your system; Activate-the metabolic restart portion with alternating low and high calorie days to help shed body fat; Achieve - this phase is about learning to control portions and introducing new fitness routines; Arrive - A combination of the first three cycles to keep good habits up for good. Each cycle changes your calorie count and the food that you're eating. The variation that Dr. Mike calls 'body confusion' is designed to keep your metabolism guessing. This is not a diet that relies on a tiny list of approved foods, gruelling exercise routines, or unrealistic calorie counts that leave you hungry and unfulfilled. Each phase comes with extensive lists of what dieters can and can't eat while on the phase, but also offers acceptable cheats. He advises readers not to drink while on the diet, but concedes that if they absolutely have to then they should at least drink red wine. Dr Mike knows that a diet can only work if it's compatible with the real world, and so he's designed the programme with usability as a top priority.

Book excerpt: If you're a man who struggles with binge eating, emotional eating, stress eating, or if you repeatedly manage to lose weight only to gain it all back, you may be approaching things with the wrong mindset. Most contemporary thought on overeating and bingeing focuses on healing and self-love-a very feminine approach. But men who've overcome food and weight issues often report it was more like capturing and caging a rabid dog than learning to love their inner child... Open the cage even an inch-or show that dog an ounce of fear-and it'll quickly burst out to shred your healthy eating plans, undoing all your progress in a heartbeat. From his perspective as a formerly food-obsessed psychologist-and previous consultant to major food manufacturers-Dr. Livingston shares specific techniques for isolating and permanently dis-empowering your "fat thinking self." He reveals much of his own personal journey in the process. If despite your best intentions you find yourself in one or more of the following situations then this book is for you... You've tried diet after diet with no permanent success... You constantly think about food and/or your weight... You feel driven to eat when you're not hungry (emotional overeating)... You sometimes feel you can't stop eating even though you're full... You sometimes feel guilty or ashamed of what you've eaten... You behave differently with food in private than you do when you're with other people... You feel the need to fast and/or severely restrict your food to "make up" for serious bouts of overeating... Never Binge Again can help you: Dramatically improve your ability to stick to ANY healthy food plan so you can achieve your weight loss and/or fitness goals... Quickly recover from mistakes without self judgement or unnecessary guilt... Free yourself from the prison of food obsession so you can enjoy a satisfying, delicious, and healthy diet for the rest of your life! "What the Hades is this? It can't be this simple. But I'm closer to my goal weight than I've been in decades!" - Peter Borromeo "A powerful, thought provoking, and very un-ladylike approach to the problem of bingeing!" - Stephanie King "A unique and brilliant way to leverage will power; passionate, convincing, defiant and inspiring - all at the same time" - Richard Guy "Never Binge Again squelched that awful voice in the back of my mind which says 'you'll backslide eventually, no matter what.' Thanks to this book failure is no longer an option!" - Warren Start "I'm still reeling with the revelation I have the ability to Never Binge Again, just like my ability to never rob a bank, never push and old lady into traffic, or never jump off of a perfectly good cliff! [...] This book is THE TOOL I need to conquer ever attempting to satisfy emotional feelings with carbo-laden calories again!" - Traci Rickards "If you follow this simple program, you CAN see results without the 'normal' struggle. No eating foods you don't like. No fancy rules, schedules or psychotic workouts. It puts you fully in charge of your eating...and it's sustainable." - Keith Duncan CPT (Certified Personal Trainer) "Refreshingly unlike any other nutrition/healthy-eating/wellbeing title I've ever read...and I've read quite a few! The total absence of charts, food diaries, calorie counters and so on is fabulous." - Celia Almeida

As we give up eating food altogether for long periods of time, we also learn that this sacrifice of love is symbolic of the greater purpose of giving up our sins, habits, and anything that would keep us from being better followers of Christ. This book is a practical Bible study manual that is designed to be either done by the individual privately with the Lord, or as a group Bible study. It teaches those interested in growing in faith how to successfully do a forty-day-long Lenten fast. All of the instructions, rules, and tools needed to learn how to fast for the Lord are provided in this study. There is a daily meditation guide for each of the forty days of the Great Lent fast, as well as a beautiful journey journal. There are recipes and a sample meal plan as well to support those on this journey. Fasting is an ancient spiritual discipline that has been neglected in modern times, yet it holds such great spiritual power for believers to grow in their personal relationship with the risen Lord and celebrate their faith in a whole new way, everyday!

Book Synopsis Revolutionary England and the National Covenant by : Edward Vallance
Download or read book Revolutionary England and the National Covenant written by Edward Vallance and published by Boydell Press. This book was released on 2005 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An assessment of the importance of oaths, and the taking of, and the idea of national covenants during a turbulent time in English history. This book studies the oaths and covenants taken during the late sixteenth to the late seventeenth century, a time of great religious and political upheaval, assessing their effect and importance. From the reign of Mary I to the Exclusion crisis, Protestant writers argued that England was a nation in covenant with God and urged that the country should renew its contract with the Lord through taking solemn oaths. In so doing, they radically modified understandings of monarchy, political allegiance and the royal succession. During the civil war, the tendering of oaths of allegiance, the Protestation of 1641 and the Vow and Covenant and Solemn League and Covenant of 1643 (all describedas embodiments of England's national covenant) also extended the boundaries of the political nation. The poor and illiterate, women as well as men, all subscribed to these tests of loyalty, which were presented as social contracts between the Parliament and the people. The Solemn League and Covenant in particular continued to provoke political controversy after 1649 and even into the 1690s many English Presbyterians still viewed themselves as bound by itsterms; the author argues that these covenants had a significant, and until now unrecognised, influence on 'politics-out-of-doors' in the eighteenth century. EDWARD VALLANCE is Lecturer in Early Modern British History, University of Liverpool.

Book Synopsis Why Should I Fast? by : Daniel R. Hyde
Download or read book Why Should I Fast? written by Daniel R. Hyde and published by Reformation Heritage Books. This book was released on 2015-03-20 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today, the church seems to have forgotten about the spiritual discipline of fasting. Most of us have never heard a sermon about it, and few of us have ever practiced it. We think of fasting as an antiquated relic of the past. So why should we fast in an age of fast food? Pastor Daniel R. Hyde argues that “fasting is actually a basic biblical teaching and practice, one that is vital to cultivating godly living in an ungodly generation.” Fasting is a means to the end of abiding, deep, and personal communion with the triune God through prayer. The author explains what fasting is, provides biblical examples of it, reminds us of what Jesus taught regarding it, and tells us how to go about it.
Download or read book The Fast written by John Oakes and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2024-02-13 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With fasting at an all-time high in popularity, here is the first deep exploration into the surprising history and science behind the practice—essential to many religions and philosophies. Whether for philosophical, political, or health-related reasons, fasting marks a departure from daily routine. It involves doing less but doing less in a radical way. Based on extensive historical, scientific, and cultural research and reporting, The Fast illuminates the numerous facets of this act of self-deprivation. John Oakes interviews doctors, spiritual leaders, activists, and others who guide him through this practice—and embarks on fasts of his own—to deliver a book that supplies readers curious about fasting with profound new understanding, appreciation, and inspiration. In recent years, fasting has become increasingly popular for a variety of reasons—from health advocates who see fasting as a method to lose weight or to detox, to the faithful who fast in prayer, to seekers pursuing mindfulness, to activists using hunger strikes as an effective means of peaceful protest. Notable fasters include Moses, Buddha, Jesus, Muhammad, Gandhi, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Emily Dickinson, Mark Twain, Cesar Chavez, and a long list of others who have drawn on its power over the ages and across borders and cultures. The Fast looks at the complex science behind the jaw-dropping biological phenomena that occur inside the human body when we fast. Metabolic switching induced by fasting can prompt repair and renewal down to the molecular level; such fasting can provide benefits for those suffering from obesity and diabetes, cancer, epilepsy, cardiovascular disease, neurodegenerative disorders, and more. Prolonged fasting can serve both to reinvigorate the immune system and to protect it against damage. Beyond the physical experience, fasting can be a great collective unifier, an instant leveler that connects us purely by virtue of being an act accessible to all, and it has been adopted by religions and political movements all over the world for millennia. Fasting is central to holy seasons and days such as Lent (Christianity), Ramadan (Islam), Yom Kippur (Judaism), Uposatha (Buddhism), and Ekadashi (Hinduism). On an individual level, devout ascetics who master self-deprivation to an extreme are believed to be closer to the divine, ascending to enlightenment or even sainthood. Through the ages, fasting in the name of justice—a hunger strike—has signaled purity of intent and action. It’s a tactic that demands commitment, serves to highlight the cruelty of those in authority, and appeals to shared values: that we’re united by a common humanity and we deserve to be heard. Advocates who have waged hunger strikes include Gandhi in India, Bobby Sands in Ireland, and the Taxi Workers Alliance in New York City. Fasting reminds us of the virtues of holding back, of not consuming all that we can. Ultimately, this book shows us that fasting is about much more than food: it is about taking control of your life in new and empowering ways and reconsidering your place in the world.
