Book Synopsis Franchise Era by : Fleury James Fleury
Download or read book Franchise Era written by Fleury James Fleury and published by Edinburgh University Press. This book was released on 2019-04-01 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As Hollywood shifts towards the digital era, the role of the media franchise has become more prominent. This edited collection, from a range of international scholars, argues that the franchise is now an integral element of American media culture. As such, the collection explores the production, distribution and marketing of franchises as a historical form of media-making - analysing the complex industrial practice of managing franchises across interconnected online platforms. Examining how traditional media incumbents like studios and networks have responded to the rise of new entrants from the technology sector (such as Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Netflix and Google), the authors take a critical look at the way new and old industrial logics collide in an increasingly fragmented and consolidated mediascape.
Book Synopsis Adaptations in the Franchise Era by : Kyle Meikle
Download or read book Adaptations in the Franchise Era written by Kyle Meikle and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2019-01-24 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adaptations in the Franchise Era re-evaluates adaptation's place in a popular culture marked by the movement of content and audiences across more media borders than ever before. While adaptation has historically been understood as the transfer of stories from one medium to another-more often than not, from novel to film-the growing interconnectedness of media and media industries in the early twenty-first century raises new questions about the form and function of adaptation as both a product and a process. Where does adaptation fit within massive franchises that span pages, stages, screens, and theme parks? Rising scholar Kyle Meikle illuminates adaptation's enduring and essential role in the rise of franchises in the 2000s and 2010s. During that decade-and-a-half, adaptations set the foundation for multiplexed, multiplied film series, piloted streaming television's forays into original programming, found their way into audiences' hands in apps and video games, and went live in theatrical experiences on Broadway and beyond. The proliferation of adaptations was matched only by a proliferation of adaptation, as fans remixed and remade their favourite franchises online and off-. This volume considers how producers and consumers defined adaptations-and how adaptations defined themselves-through the endless intertextual play of the franchise era.
Book Synopsis Franchise 4.0: Issues, Trends and Evolution of Franchise Businesses in Digital Era by : N.S. Subawa
Download or read book Franchise 4.0: Issues, Trends and Evolution of Franchise Businesses in Digital Era written by N.S. Subawa and published by Nilacakra. This book was released on 2022-12-08 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Franchise business, as discussed in this book, is one of the invisible hands of the global economy. If you are imagining an economic trojan horse, then franchising is exactly what it is. The goal of the franchise is not as extreme as the trojan horse that destroyed the city of Troy in Greek heroic tales, but because it is one of the right hands of capitalism, it has the potential for efficient expansion and infiltration.

Book Synopsis The Science Fiction Film in Contemporary Hollywood by : Evdokia Stefanopoulou
Download or read book The Science Fiction Film in Contemporary Hollywood written by Evdokia Stefanopoulou and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2023-07-27 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Science Fiction Film in Contemporary Hollywood focuses on the American science fiction (SF) film during the period 2001-2020, in order to provide a theoretical mapping of the genre in the context of Conglomerate Hollywood. Using a social semiotics approach in a systematic corpus of films, the book argues that the SF film can be delineated by two semiotic squares -the first one centering on the genre's more-than-human ontologies (SF bodies), and the second one focusing on its imaginative worlds (SF worlds). Based on this theoretical framework, the book examines the genre in six cycles, which are placed in their historical context, and are analyzed in relation to cultural discourses, such as technological embodiment, race, animal-human relations, environmentalism, global capitalism, and the techno-scientific Empire. By considering these cycles -which include superhero films, creature films, space operas, among others-as expressions of the genre's basic oppositions, the book facilitates the comparison and juxtaposition of films that have rarely been discussed in tandem, offering a new perspective on the multiple articulations of the SF film in the new millennium.

Book Synopsis Decarbonization of Cities in Asia by : Vincent S. Cheng
Download or read book Decarbonization of Cities in Asia written by Vincent S. Cheng and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-09-12 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides best practices for decarbonizing cities in East Asia, in which buildings are the major contributor to carbon emissions. Beyond the global commitment through the Paris Agreement to make collective efforts on climate action and accelerated policies, investment and development at the country and city level to combat climate change are occurring at an unprecedented rate. Rapid urbanization and increasing energy demand for large and dense Asian cities require smart and sustainable strategies to balance development with decarbonization. A poly-centric approach is needed, where a combination of policy-, market- and technology-driven changes can aid the transition towards development of carbon neutral cities. With practical examples in the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, green financing, climate action roadmap and policy, deployment of renewable energy, and low- to zero-carbon buildings, readers can find the motivation, considerations and implementation pathways to facilitate the transition into the new normal. It is the hope of the authors to encourage readers to see successful pathways in transitioning into a carbon-free industry and overcoming the effects of climate extremes.
