Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Fragmentary Records of Jesus of Nazareth: From the Letters of a Contemporary Of speaking of cherished Objects not only jars on the taste Of those who feel that reverence and beauty are closely akin, but gives some thing like a shock of pan to loving and adoring hearts. If the end may not justify the means, it is hoped that in this case the recollection of it may at least explain them, and show that what seems a lack Of reverence is only like the holding back Of the outbursts of loyalty 'ou a coronation day while the crown is being placed on the monarch's brow, a pause that makes the glad acclamations ring out afterwards with warmer enthusiasm. The love and loyalty have not ceased to exist while the nature Of the ceremony forbade their expression. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Examine the Evidence Surrounding Jesus No other figure has impacted history like Jesus. Yet today, he’s often seen as a mythical character whose legend increased over time. So what does the historical and archaeological evidence say about Jesus? Archaeologist Dr. Titus Kennedy has investigated firsthand the discoveries connected to Jesus’ birth, ministry, crucifixion, and resurrection. He has visited and excavated where Jesus walked, and examined the artifacts connected to Jesus’ life. Here, he presents an up-to-date and comprehensive overview of the research and findings that illuminate the historicity of Christ as presented in the Bible. Excavating the Evidence for Jesus progresses chronologically through the Gospels, noting the many relevant archaeological, historical, geographic, and literary findings. As you read, you’ll be able to decide for yourself whether the evidence confirms the existence and story of Jesus, and determine whether the Gospels are worthy of being approached not as legends, but as history. Further, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the historic basis of Christianity, a richer knowledge of the ancient world, and an evidence-based perspective on the reliability of the Bible.

Book Synopsis The Jesus Papyrus by : Matthew D'Ancona
Download or read book The Jesus Papyrus written by Matthew D'Ancona and published by Galilee Trade. This book was released on 2000-02-15 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1901, the Reverend Charles B. Huleatt acquired three pieces of a New Testament manuscript on the murky antiquities market of Luxor, Egypt. He donated these papyrus fragments to his alma mater, Magdalen College in Oxford, England, where they sat in a display case and drew very little attention. Nearly a century later, the fragments--part of the Gospel of Matthew and thought to date from a.d. 180-200--were reevaluated by scholar Carsten Peter Thiede. His research showed the bits of papyrus to be significantly older, written about a.d. 60. But what is all the fuss about? How can three ancient papyrus fragments be so significant? How did Thiede arrive at this radical early dating? And what does it mean to the average Christian? Now readers have authoritative answers to these pivotal questions, in a book written by Thiede himself and by Times of London journalist Matthew d'Ancona, who originally broke the story to the public. Indeed, the Magdalen Papyrus corroborates three traditions: Saint Matthew actually wrote the Gospel bearing his name; he wrote it within a generation of Jesus' death; and the Gospel stories about Jesus are true. Some will vehemently deny Thiede's claims, others will embrace them, but nobody can ignore THE JESUS PAPYRUS.
