Book Synopsis Metallurgy of Welding by : J. F. Lancaster
Download or read book Metallurgy of Welding written by J. F. Lancaster and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended, like its predecessor (The metallurgy of welding, brazing and soldering), to provide a textbook for undergraduate and postgraduate students concerned with welding, and for candidates taking the Welding Institute examinations. At the same time, it may prove useful to practising engineers, metallurgists and welding engineers in that it offers a resume of information on welding metallurgy together with some material on the engineering problems associated with welding such as reliability and risk analysis. In certain areas there have been developments that necessitated complete re-writing of the previous text. Thanks to the author's colleagues in Study Group 212 of the International Institute of Welding, understanding of mass flow in fusion welding has been radically transformed. Knowledge of the metallurgy of carbon and ferritic alloy steel, as applied to welding, has continued to advance at a rapid pace, while the literature on fracture mechanics accumulates at an even greater rate. In other areas, the welding of non-ferrous metals for example, there is little change to report over the last decade, and the original text of the book is only slightly modified. In those fields where there has been significant advance, the subject has become more quantitative and the standard of math ematics required for a proper understanding has been raised.

Book Synopsis Electron Probe Quantitation by : K.F.J. Heinrich
Download or read book Electron Probe Quantitation written by K.F.J. Heinrich and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1991-06-30 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1968, the National Bureau of Standards (NBS) published Special Publication 298 "Quantitative Electron Probe Microanalysis," which contained proceedings of a seminar held on the subject at NBS in the summer of 1967. This publication received wide interest that continued through the years far beyond expectations. The present volume, also the result of a gathering of international experts, in 1988, at NBS (now the National Institute of Standards and Technology, NIST), is intended to fulfill the same purpose. After years of substantial agreement on the procedures of analysis and data evaluation, several sharply differentiated approaches have developed. These are described in this publi cation with all the details required for practical application. Neither the editors nor NIST wish to endorse any single approach. Rather, we hope that their exposition will stimulate the dialogue which is a prerequisite for technical progress. Additionally, it is expected that those active in research in electron probe microanalysis will appreciate more clearly the areas in which further investigations are warranted.
Book Synopsis Grain Boundary Segregation in Metals by : Pavel Lejcek
Download or read book Grain Boundary Segregation in Metals written by Pavel Lejcek and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-07-20 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grain boundaries are important structural components of polycrystalline materials used in the vast majority of technical applications. Because grain boundaries form a continuous network throughout such materials, their properties may limit their practical use. One of the serious phenomena which evoke these limitations is the grain boundary segregation of impurities. It results in the loss of grain boundary cohesion and consequently, in brittle fracture of the materials. The current book deals with fundamentals of grain boundary segregation in metallic materials and its relationship to the grain boundary structure, classification and other materials properties.

Download or read book Microstructure and Texture in Steels written by Arunansu Haldar and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-09-03 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Microstructure and Texture in Steels and Other Materials comprises a collection of articles pertaining to experimental and theoretical aspects of the evolution of crystallographic texture and microstructure during processing of steels and some other materials. Among the topics covered is the processing-microstructure-texture-property relationship in various kinds of steels, including the latest grade. Special emphasis has been given to introduce recent advances in the characterization of texture and microstructure, as well as modeling. The papers included are written by well-known experts from academia and industrial R and D, which will provide the reader with state-of-the-art, in-depth knowledge of the subject. With these attributes, Microstructure and Texture in Steels and Other Materials is expected to serve the cause of creating awareness of current developments in microstructural science and materials engineering among academic and R and D personnel working in the field.
Book Synopsis Local Mechanical Properties by : Petr Louda

Book excerpt: The present collection of papers from 12th International Conference "Local Mechanical Properties" which was held on November 04.- 06.2015 in Liberec, Czech Republic presents current publications of conference participants from several countries .Besides the traditional research in area of mechanical properties of different metallic materials, composites, polymers was focused attention also on research of thin layers and nanomaterials. The significant potential of application of these new materials significantly affects on research activities of academia. Future application of innovative materials in different areas of human activities, already requires from researchers the definition of materials properties on atomic level. Conference by its content contributed to the deepening of knowledge about the internal structure of various materials, their mechanical and tribological properties. Mechanical Properties, Composites, Polymers, Steel, Alloys, Thin Layers, Thin Films, Coating, Nanomaterials, Nanoindentation, Testing, Measurements Materials Science.
Book Synopsis Mathematical and Physical Simulation of the Properties of Hot Rolled Products by : Maciej Pietrzyk
Download or read book Mathematical and Physical Simulation of the Properties of Hot Rolled Products written by Maciej Pietrzyk and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1999-07-05 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this publication is to comprehensively discuss the possibilities of producing steels with pre-determined attributes, demanded by the customer to fit exacting specifications. The information presented in the book has been designed to indicate the reasons for the expenses and to aid in the process of overcoming the difficulties and reducing the costs. In nine detailed chapters, the authors cover topics including: • steel as a major contributor to the economic wealth of a country in terms of its capabilities and production • current concerns of major steel producers • phenomena contributing to the quality of the product • information concerning the boundary conditions of the rolling process and initial conditions, put to use by mathematical models • the solid state incremental approach and flow formulation • parameters and variables - most of which make use of the exponential nature of phenomena that are activated by thermal energy • the application of three dimensional analysis to shape rolling • the evaluation of parameters by a form of inverse analysis to the flat rolling process • knowledge based modeling, using artificial intelligence, expert systems and neural networks They conclude that when either mathematical or physical modeling of the rolling process is considered and the aim is to satisfy the demands for customers, it is possible to produce what the customer wants, exactly.

Committee on Filler Metals and Allied Materials and published by . This book was released on 2013-03-11 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This specification prescribes the requirements for the classification of over 30 titanium and titanium-alloy welding electrodes and rods. Classification is based on the chemical composition of the electrode. Major topics include general requirements, testing, packaging, and application guidelines. This specification makes use of both U.S. Customary Units and the International System of Units (SI). Since these are not equivalent, each system must be used independently of the other. This specification adopts the requirements of ISO 24034 and incorporates the provisions of earlier versions of A5.16/A5.16M, allowing for classifications under both specifications.
