Download or read book Skeletal Injury in the Child written by John A. Ogden and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-04-28 with total page 1216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The new edition of this comprehensive classic continues the tradition of offering the latest developments in the mechanisms of injury, the biomechanics of fracture reduction, and an understanding of the potential for healing. It correlates anatomy, pathology and radiography of childrens skeletal injuries with a plethora of photographs and line drawings, establishing diagnosis, management, and treatment in a comprehensive and practical manner. Important additions to this edition are an expansive chapter on the management of multiple injuries, the management of complications, extensive discussion of soft tissue injuries following skeletal trauma, new diagnostic techniques, and the use of flaps in childrens injuries. Written by one of the most highly respected names in the orthopaedic community world-wide, this third edition will remain an invaluable resource to paediatric orthopaedic surgeons, general orthopaedic surgeons, emergency room physicians, orthopaedic trauma surgeons and residents and fellows in these specialities.
Download or read book The Patella written by Giles R. Scuderi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problems of the patellofemoral joint remain a challenge to the orthopaedic surgeon. In spite of many articles in scientific journals, an outstanding monograph, and several excellent textbook chapters, the patella is still an enigma in many respects. The etiology of patellar pain is controversial, and there is no completely satisfying explanation for its cause or its relationship to chondromalacia. Curiously, neither the widespread use of arthroscopy nor the advent of newer diagnostic tests such as CT scanning and magnetic resonance imaging have cast much light. Without a better understanding of why patellar disorders occur it is not surprising that there is no consensus on how to fix them. Arthros copy has contributed little except to the patient's psyche. The currently most popular surgical treatment for recurrent dislocation of the patella was first described 50 years ago. One concrete advance, albeit a small one, is a better understanding of the role of anatomical abnormalities and patellofemoral dysplasia in patellar instabilities. It gives me great pleasure that many of the contributors are, like Dr.
Book Synopsis Pediatric Orthopedic Deformities, Volume 2 by : Frederic Shapiro
Download or read book Pediatric Orthopedic Deformities, Volume 2 written by Frederic Shapiro and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-02-25 with total page 839 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 2 of this comprehensive and state-of-the-art text on pediatric orthopedic deformities focuses on conditions of the lower extremity. Developmental disorders of the hip – developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease (LCP), coxa vara including slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE), and femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) – the knee, the ankle and foot, as well as rotational and angular deformities of the lower limb are discussed in detail. Presentation for each deformity includes: definition, detailed review of the pathoanatomy, experimental biological investigations (where applicable), natural history, review of the evolution of diagnostic and treatment techniques, results achieved with the various approaches, and current management approaches with detailed descriptions of surgical technique. Extensive illustrations, figures and photos provide clear visual depictions of the range of deformity for the various disorders, underlying histopathology, imaging findings and treatment approaches. Multiple tables provide concentrated information, especially for the treatment options based on the severity of the particular disorder and deformity. Based on a solid understanding of the underlying pathobiology of deformities of the developing musculoskeletal system, this second volume of Pediatric Orthopedic Deformities provides a penetrating, in-depth presentation on the lower extremity for pediatric orthopedic surgeons, adult orthopedic surgeons seeking a deeper understanding of how deformities developed, and all clinicians caring for pediatric patients with developmental deformities.

Download or read book Pediatric Orthopedic Deformities, Volume 1 written by Frederic Shapiro and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-03-31 with total page 789 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developmental biology of normal bone and cartilage including histogenesis, molecular/gene and biomechanical aspects is updated and expanded. The book outlines the biology of: bone repair with differing mechanical environments; cartilage repair at articular and physeal sites; and distraction osteogenesis. The generously illustrated text provides an in-depth presentation of the interplay between normal developmental biology, abnormal pathologic states and the influence of operative and non-operative orthopedic interventions on childhood orthopedic deformity. Thirty-four principles underlying the development, progression and management of skeletal deformity in the growing child are defined. Orthopedic management including surgical treatment is discussed for: skeletal dysplasias; epiphyseal growth plate fracture-separations; lower extremity length discrepancies; and deformities of joints and epiphyses due to metabolic, inflammatory, infectious, hematologic, and neoplastic disorders. Treatments are related to extent of deformity, remodeling post-surgery and possible recurrence. This 2nd edition of Pediatric Orthopedic Deformities has been expanded to cover more regions and disorders and is being presented in 3 volumes.

Book Synopsis Overuse Injuries of the Musculoskeletal System by : Marko M. Pecina
Download or read book Overuse Injuries of the Musculoskeletal System written by Marko M. Pecina and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-11-25 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Overuse injuries of the musculoskeletal system are common occurrences. Yet most existing volumes on cumulative trauma disorders deal with the subject from an ergonomic and occupational therapy standpoint, and do not provide the all-encompassing synopsis that physicians demand.Overuse Injuries of the Musculoskeletal System, Second Edition, answers the need by presenting a complete overview of the methods for diagnosing and treating the overuse injuries that affect the musculoskeletal system as a whole. Each chapter includes the definition, origins, clinical picture and diagnostics, and treatment for the given injury. The book goes beyond diagnosis and treatment by identifying etiological factors and discussing ways to prevent overuse injuries. This new edition retains the successful systematic format that made the first edition a bestseller and an invaluable tool for orthopaedists, physical therapists, rheumatologists, radiologists and sports medicine practitioners. This version includes a new chapter on radiologic diagnosis, new chapter on overuse injuries in female athletes and supplements previously-existing chapters with new material.

This book was released on 2011-03-23 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the Western world first became aware of the existence of Neanderthals, this Pleistocene human has been a regular focus of interest among specialists and also among the general public. In fact, we know far more about Neanderthals than we do about any other extinct human population. Furthermore, over the past 150 years no other palaeospecies has been such a constant source of discussion and fierce debate among palaeoanthropologists and archaeologists. This book presents the status of our knowledge as well as the methods and techniques used to study this extinct population and it suggests perspectives for future research.

Book Synopsis Glenohumeral Osteoarthritis in the Young Patient by : Brian M. Grawe
Download or read book Glenohumeral Osteoarthritis in the Young Patient written by Brian M. Grawe and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-01-20 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The management of glenohumeral arthritis in the young patient remains a challenging problem for the treating clinician. The activity demands seen in such patient populations require a unique understanding of what the goals of treatment are to ensure satisfied and sustainable outcomes. In addition, younger patients have a longer life expectancy and more active lifestyles, which can negatively impact the longevity of arthroplasty implants that are traditionally used in the older patient population. As such, the discovery and implementation of novel and anatomy preserving techniques continue to evolve to meet the demand of younger patients without compromising their outcomes. This practical text serves to educate the treating clinician on how to recognize and categorize glenohumeral osteoarthritis in young patients and offers insight into the various operative and non-operative treatment options. Opening chapters examine the prevalence and burden, etiology and evaluation of the condition, followed by chapters discussing the current non-invasive and non-operative approaches to treatment, such as injection therapy. The main complement of chapters are detailed descriptions of surgical approaches, from arthroscopy and cartilage reconstruction to total and reverse shoulder arthroplasty, stemless approaches and arthrodesis. A final chapter expands on future management strategies. Radiographs and intraoperative photos are provided to enhance the text. Presenting the state of the art for this increasingly common condition, Glenohumeral Osteoarthritis in the Young Patient is an ideal resource for orthopedic surgeons and sports medicine specialists alike.

Book Synopsis The Evolution of Language by : W. Tecumseh Fitch
Download or read book The Evolution of Language written by W. Tecumseh Fitch and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-04-01 with total page 625 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Language, more than anything else, is what makes us human. It appears that no communication system of equivalent power exists elsewhere in the animal kingdom. Any normal human child will learn a language based on rather sparse data in the surrounding world, while even the brightest chimpanzee, exposed to the same environment, will not. Why not? How, and why, did language evolve in our species and not in others? Since Darwin's theory of evolution, questions about the origin of language have generated a rapidly-growing scientific literature, stretched across a number of disciplines, much of it directed at specialist audiences. The diversity of perspectives - from linguistics, anthropology, speech science, genetics, neuroscience and evolutionary biology - can be bewildering. Tecumseh Fitch cuts through this vast literature, bringing together its most important insights to explore one of the biggest unsolved puzzles of human history.
