Book Synopsis Social and Behavioral Foundations of Public Health by : Jeannine Coreil
Download or read book Social and Behavioral Foundations of Public Health written by Jeannine Coreil and published by SAGE Publications Inc. This book was released on 2010 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended as a core textbook for courses in public health that examines current issues in health from a social and behavioral science perspective. It is a cross-disciplinary course (public health, medical sociology, health psychology, medical anthropology) and thus there are many ways to teach the course based on a particular instructor's perspective. The authors wrote the book because they were dissatisfied with the way other texts apply social science to public health and found that many texts being used were from related fields such as medicine, nursing or general health. The authors are planning to do a major revision based on reviews they have collected and the reviews we have collected. We believe the revised edition will essentially be a new text based on rich feedback. They will include new theory, new cases, new research, and a rich ancillary package. They will also reduce the frameworks presented to make the book more readable to students.

Download or read book The Loyalty Leap written by Bryan Pearson and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2012-05-10 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Collecting data is easy for marketers. Figuring out what to do with it is hard. Technology has made it almost routine for companies to know exactly when, where, and how their customers shop, both online and off. As soon as someone pulls out a credit card—or even better, a membership rewards card—the data floodgates open. United Airlines knows if you think it’s worth $25 to check a suitcase. Verizon knows how often you call your mom. Hilton knows if you prefer a higher floor and a room away from the elevator. But after gathering and crunching all this customer data most companies have little or no idea how to use it. They either let it go to waste or abuse it with ill-considered, irrelevant, or even creepy marketing pitches. There’s a much better option, as Bryan Pearson has discovered after twenty years of studying the hidden patterns of consumer behavior. It really is possible to turn customer information into customer intimacy— systematically, efficiently, and without invading anyone’s privacy. And intimacy is the key to long-term loyalty, growth, and profits. As Pearson writes: Customers can only be acquired, churned, and reactivated so many times before they tire of your brand. There is a proven marketing equation in which customers willingly share information with you in the expectation of being better served and valued during future transactions. Capitalizing on that equation is our business responsibility. The Loyalty Leap will give you the tools to persuade customers to share more information in their own best interests. And it will help you make sense of all that data to build strong customer relationships. It also shares compelling examples, including: How Shell increased sales while reducing its network of gas stations by giving its best customers incentives to buy from another location. How GameStop offers its PowerUp Rewards members access to such events as the Comic-Con convention. How McDonald’s in Finland used location-based marketing to send special offers to customers near one of its locations, with a 40 percent response rate. How Caesars Entertainment uses data from its 40 million Total Rewards members to draw complete customer profiles, resulting in increased visits. Pearson believes this is one of the most exciting times in the history of marketing, and that loyalty marketing will be increasingly essential for years to come. His book will take you behind the curtain to show how the best companies are doing it.

Book Synopsis Store Cards Market Investigation by : Great Britain: Competition Commission
Download or read book Store Cards Market Investigation written by Great Britain: Competition Commission and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2006-04-21 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In light of the concerns that have been raised about the lack of transparency of credit card charges in the UK, particularly in relation to interest rates charged for store card credit, this matter was referred by the Office of Fair Trading to the Competition Commission in March 2004. The Commission's inquiry focuses on two key aspects: store card credit services to retailers and related insurance services; and consumer credit through store cards and related insurance services. These cards offer a method of payment and credit option which are retailer-specific, and are mostly operated by department stores and clothing retailers. The investigation is based on data relating to the period from 1999 to 2003 (supplemented by relevant information for 2004 and projections for 2005 and 2006) and focuses on the functioning of the market as a whole rather than on the conduct of individual companies. Issues examined include: relevant economic markets and the wider regulatory framework; proposals to reform the legislation governing the credit market and statutory issues; factors that prevent, restrict or distort competition; detrimental effects on customers; and options for remedial action. The report finds that the interest rates charged on store cards are too high (generally annual percentage rates (APRs) of between 10 to 20 per cent above required levels), resulting in an estimated cost for consumers of at least £55 million a year and possibly significantly more. A number of remedies are identified that store card credit providers should make, including warning cardholders on monthly statements that cheaper credit may be available elsewhere; providing more and clearer information on all monthly statements; offering an option to pay by direct debit; and offering payment protection insurance separately from other elements of store card insurance.
