Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main focus in foundation design is the determination of the depth of the footing due to the applied loads transferred by the column. This book covers all the details of designing four different footings: 1. Combined footing 2. Continuous footing 3 Square Footing, and 4. Rectangular Footing. It Includes all structural analysis, calculations, and drawings to support the theory of the design. The final column load obtained from my first book "Civil Engineering in Reinforced Concrete Design" is being used in this book for the complete design of the four above-mentioned footings. You have the option to have this first book or go ahead and proceed with the design without it. Remember that the calculations of the final column load(s) are the most important in the design of the foundation. My first book primarily focused on how all building loads are calculated to obtain the final column load that transfers the load to the footing supporting the column. The catalyst in Foundation Design is the determination of the thickness or depth of the footing which is explained in this book through the process and structural analysis. All reinforcement bar sizes are determined through this book as well as the development length "Ld", distances between bars, and their correct placements in the footing. Two important Analyses are used to make sure that the footings are safe, through Punching and Beam shear analysis.

This book develops a clear understanding of the soil parameters, bearing capacity, settlement and deformation, and describes the practical methods of designing structural foundations. The book analyses the various types of foundations, namely isolated footing, strip foundation and raft foundation, and their structural design. It discusses piled foundation, the types and behaviour of piles in various soils (cohesive and cohesionless), and their bearing capacity. The book also includes the analysis, design and construction of diaphragm wall foundation used in highway and railway tunnels, multi-storey basement and underground metro stations. In addition, it includes the analysis and design of sheet piling foundation, retaining wall and bridge pier foundation. KEY FEATURES : Demonstrates both BS codes of practice and Eurocodes to analyse soil and structural design of foundations and compares the results Includes a number of examples on foundations Provides structural design calculations with step-by-step procedures Gives sufficient numbers of relevant sketches, figures and tables to reinforce the concepts This book is suitable for the senior undergraduate students of civil engineering and postgraduate students specializing in geotechnical engineering. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook describes the basic mechanical features of concrete and explains the main resistant mechanisms activated in the reinforced concrete structures and foundations when subjected to centred and eccentric axial force, bending moment, shear, torsion and prestressing. It presents a complete set of limit-state design criteria of the modern theory of RC incorporating principles and rules of the final version of the official Eurocode 2. This textbook examines methodological more than notional aspects of the presented topics, focusing on the verifications of assumptions, the rigorousness of the analysis and the consequent degree of reliability of results. Each chapter develops an organic topic, which is eventually illustrated by examples in each final paragraph containing the relative numerical applications. These practical end-of-chapter appendices and intuitive flow-charts ensure a smooth learning experience. The book stands as an ideal learning resource for students of structural design and analysis courses in civil engineering, building construction and architecture, as well as a valuable reference for concrete structural design professionals in practice.

The use of SP-16 (Design Aids for Reinforced Concrete to IS: 456–1978) has also been explained in solving the problems. KEY FEATURES : Instructional Objectives at the beginning of the chapter highlight important concepts. Summary at the end of the chapter to help student revise key points. Sixty-nine solved illustrative examples presenting step-by-step calculations. Chapter-end exercises to test student’s understanding of the concepts. Forty Tests to enable students to gauge their preparedness for actual exams. This comprehensive text is suitable for undergraduate students of civil engineering and architecture. It can also be useful to professional engineers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This manual for civil and structural engineers aims to simplify as much as possible a complex subject which is often treated too theoretically, by explaining in a practical way how to provide uncomplicated, buildable and economical foundations. It explains simply, clearly and with numerous worked examples how economic foundation design is achieved. It deals with both straightforward and difficult sites, following the process through site investigation, foundation selection and, finally, design. The book: includes chapters on many aspects of foundation engineering that most other books avoid including filled and contaminated sites mining and other man-made conditions features a step-by-step procedure for the design of lightweight and flexible rafts, to fill the gap in guidance in this much neglected, yet extremely economical foundation solution concentrates on foundations for building structures rather than the larger civil engineering foundations includes many innovative and economic solutions developed and used by the authors’ practice but not often covered in other publications provides an extensive series of appendices as a valuable reference source. For the Second Edition the chapter on contaminated and derelict sites has been updated to take account of the latest guidelines on the subject, including BS 10175. Elsewhere, throughout the book, references have been updated to take account of the latest technical publications and relevant British Standards.
