Book Synopsis The Forsaken Lover by : Chris Searle
Download or read book The Forsaken Lover written by Chris Searle and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-02-28 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1972, The Forsaken Lover draws upon Chris Searle’s experience as an English teacher in a secondary school in Tobago to focus upon the deep problems of identity encountered by black people having to use the white man’s language. He shows how the white man’s language is primarily interested in vindicating the white man’s pride and culture, and denying the black man his true autonomy. Black children are still being educated within a cultural context which denies them their own identity – in order to succeed they must become as white as possible. In the Forsaken Lover (the title comes from a poem written by a West Indian girl). Chris Seale presents a lively and direct account of his experience. The book is full of the children’s own writing – poetry, prose, drama – and, by referring to their words, Searle urges the need for change in policies and attitudes of language and education. The immediate context is Caribbean, but the issues are common to all societies where differences of colour, class and environment exist. The book will be of interest to students of race and ethnic relations, education, linguistics and public policy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From USA Today bestselling author Willow Winters and B. B. Hamel comes a darker emotionally-gripping, standalone, romantic suspense. I should have known that one day I’d be at the mercy of a monster. And all I am is the daughter of his enemy. I was stolen and gifted to him - a dominating, brutal and a cold hearted killer. My pleas fall on deaf ears as I stay trapped and held hostage to his will. He could do anything he wanted with me. And I know what it is he’s looking for. He can’t hide the desire in his gaze. The flicker of heat between us is something I can’t deny either. And as the days grow colder, I’m finding it harder to resist. With each gentle touch and act of kindness that lures me closer to him, I’m finding it impossible to remember why I should fight this. “A powerfully written and deeply emotional read. Where innocence meets darkness and a light finds a way to shine through.” - Dare to Love Romance Book Reviews

Book excerpt: J.D. Barker's Forsaken is a remarkable debut, a gripping tale of suspense in the tradition of Stephen King, Dean Koontz, and John Saul. Truly the birth of a new master in the genre. Bram Stoker Award Nominee - Superior Achievement in a First Novel “Barker’s ambitious debut is aimed squarely at fans of classic horror. Witches, spells, miniature demons, and personal doubt give plenty to latch on to… the plot moves at a brisk pace… a promising start to a planned series.” - Editorial Review, Publisher’s Weekly "A talented writer with a delightfully devious mind!" Jeffery Deaver #1 International Bestselling Author Book One of the Shadow Cove Saga Inspired by Actual Events Excerpt from the Journal of Clayton Stone – 1692 She was examined today without torture at Shadow Cove township on the charge of witchcraft. She said she was wholly innocent of the crime and has never in life renounced God. I watched as they brought her out. A poor, sickly thing, worn by her time behind the walls of her prison. Her bared feet and hands bound in leather, her clothing tattered to that of ruin. Despite such condition, her head was held high, her eyes meeting those of her accusers. She still refuses to provide her name so we remain unable to search baptismal records, nor has her family stepped forward to claim her as their own. We have no reason to believe she is anything but an orphaned child. I find myself unable to look at her directly in the moments preceding her trial. She is watching me though; with eyes of the deepest blue, she is watching me. Thad McAlister, Rise of the Witch When horror author Thad McAlister began his latest novel, a tale rooted in the witch trials of centuries past, the words flowed effortlessly. The story poured forth, filling page after page with the most frightening character ever to crawl from his imagination. It was his greatest work, one that would guarantee him a position among the legends of the craft. But was it really fiction? He inadvertently opened a door, one that would soon jeopardize the lives of his family. She wants to come back. At home, his wife struggles to keep their family alive. Secretly wondering if she caused it all…a deal she made long ago. A deal with the Forsaken.

As the Gatewatch’s newest member, Kaya aims to help write that future. In joining, she pledged an oath to protect the living and the dead, but now that oath will be tested. The grieving guild masters of Ravnica have tasked her with a grave mission suited to her talents as a hunter and assassin—a mission she is ordered to keep secret from the Gatewatch. She must track down and exact retribution on the traitor Liliana Vess. But Liliana Vess has no interest in being found. Forsaken by her friends, she fled Ravnica after the defeat of Bolas. She was hostage to his wicked will, forced to assist in his terrible atrocities on pain of death—until Gideon, the last one who believed in her goodness, died in her place.
