Download or read book Iran Sanctions written by Joseph A. Christoff and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2010-06 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1995, the U.S. banned exports to Iran of most U.S. goods without a Treasury Dept. license. In 2008, the U.S. media, citing U.S. gov¿t. statistics, reported that U.S. firms were exporting numerous goods to Iran. The statistics are maintained by the Census Bureau and are based on data filed by exporters or their agents. The U.S. has also generally banned unlicensed trans-shipments of U.S. goods to Iran via other nations. This report assesses the extent to which: (1) U.S. trade statistics accurately depict exports to Iran; (2) Treasury licenses exports to Iran in accordance with the trade restrictions and provides licensing data to enforcement agencies and Congress; and (3) Iran obtains U.S. military and dual-use goods through trans-shipment. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume explores Iran’s industrial and trade policy options for achieving sustainable, export-oriented, and pro-employment growth. The first part of the book discusses Iran’s economic and industrial development performance, as well as strategies for enhancing capabilities, fostering productive transformation, and developing employment that can result in faster and more inclusive economic growth. It also presents a case study on a leading manufacturing subsector—the automotive industry. The book then offers a set of analyses concerning the country’s trade sector, including exchange rate policies, ways to connect to global markets, and accession to the World Trade Organization. In turn, the closing chapters investigate various aspects of Iran’s labor market and offer policy recommendations on the creation of productive jobs. Readers will learn about effective industrial, trade, and employment policies that can complement macroeconomic measures adopted by the government. As such, the book will appeal not only to scholars and policy-makers, but also to international investors seeking to understand various core aspects of Iran’s industrial and employment structures and trade regime.
Book Synopsis Islamic Republic of Iran by : International Monetary Fund
Download or read book Islamic Republic of Iran written by International Monetary Fund and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2007-03-01 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Iran has received much attention from a geopolitical and regional standpoint, but its economic challenges have not attracted a similar degree of interest. With a population of 69 million, considerable hydrocarbon resources, a dynamic and entrepreneurial middle class, and a relatively well-educated labor force, Iran's economic potential is considerable. This volume takes stock of critical developments in the Iranian economy in recent years. The study reviews the key issues and policy responses, highlights the nature of the challenges ahead, and draws implications for the next phase of reforms. The authors conclude that major challenges remain, although significant advances have been made in recent years in opening up the economy to international trade and foreign direct investment, encouraging the private sector, removing exchange restrictions, reforming the tax system, and enhancing macroeconomic management.
