Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The number of protein sequences grows each year, yet the number of structures deposited in the Protein Data Bank remains relatively small. The importance of protein structure prediction cannot be overemphasized, and this volume is a timely addition to the literature in this field. Protein Structure Prediction: Methods and Protocols is a departure from the normal Methods in Molecular Biology series format. By its very nature, protein structure prediction demands that there be a greater mix of theoretical and practical aspects than is normally seen in this series. This book is aimed at both the novice and the experienced researcher who wish for detailed inf- mation in the field of protein structure prediction; a major intention here is to include important information that is needed in the day-to-day work of a research scientist, important information that is not always decipherable in scientific literature. Protein Structure Prediction: Methods and Protocols covers the topic of protein structure prediction in an eclectic fashion, detailing aspects of pred- tion that range from sequence analysis (a starting point for many algorithms) to secondary and tertiary methods, on into the prediction of docked complexes (an essential point in order to fully understand biological function). As this volume progresses, the authors contribute their expert knowledge of protein structure prediction to many disciplines, such as the identification of motifs and domains, the comparative modeling of proteins, and ab initio approaches to protein loop, side chain, and protein prediction.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jean-Paul Bertaud is the leading French authority on the army of the French Revolution, and La Revolution armee is the authortative treatment of the firest great national, patriotic, revolutionary, and mass army, engaged in what has been called the first total war: that between revolutionary France and the other European powers. The book is a successful attempt to integrate military history with social and political history and thereby to depict the army as a "school for the republic" that by subtle changes after 1795 made way for the Napoleonic regime. The distinguished historian R.R. Palmer presents the first translation of this work into English in a volume that will quickly become indispensable for French historians, historical sociologists, and political scientists interested in armies and revolutions. The theme of the book is suggested by its French title: "the Revolution armed." That is, the book is primarily about the Revolution, and specifically the Revolution in its relation to armed force. This revolution, and this army, activated the idea of the citizen-soldier exemplified by the ancient classical republics, and favored by Jean-jacques Rousseau and other eighteenth-century thinkers, but never before realized on so large and portentous a scale as in France in the 1790s. Jean-Paul Bertaud is Professor of Modern History at the University of Paris I (the Sorbonne). He has published widely in France on aspects of the French Revolution. R.R. Palmer is Professor Emeritus at Yale University and author of numerous books, including the two-volume The Age of the Democratic Revolution (1959 and 1964), Twelve Who Ruled (1941), and The Improvement of Humanity: Education and the French Revolution (1985), all published by Princeton University Press. He has translated many works from the French, most recently The Two Tocquevilles, Father and Son: Herve and Alexis de TOcqueville on the Coming of the French Revolution (Princeton, 1987). Originally published in 1988. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.

Book excerpt: The impetus for writing this book started with the death of my mother and the need to retain all the stories she had told me over the years. It follows the branches of two families, including a sausage manufacturer in the industrial north of England and a haberdasher in the heart of London in the south. It also contains personal experiences of post-war Britain and beyond, and the eventual union of the families in mid-20th century Canada.

Not even the long-standing peace treaty between our two nations could make people forget how the savage Men of the North used to hunt down and kidnap women here."If only Devina hadn't been so damned curious by nature, she would have never picked up that letter thrown across the Northern wall. Now, she is horrified to see that it's from a teenage girl who is only weeks away from being auctioned off in a bridal tournament. With no time to waste, Devina is determined to help the girl escape, even if it means putting herself in danger. Forbidden Letters is a stand-alone prequel to Elin Peer's wildly popular dystopian romance series, Men of the North. The entire series is out, so if you like binge reading there will be no waiting for the next installment.Get this book and see why readers are raving about the masterful dialogue and unexpected plotline.
