Book Synopsis Knots in Hellas '98 by : C. McA. Gordon
Download or read book Knots in Hellas '98 written by C. McA. Gordon and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2000 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There have been exciting developments in the area of knot theory in recent years. They include Thurston's work on geometric structures on 3-manifolds (e.g. knot complements), Gordon?Luecke work on surgeries on knots, Jones' work on invariants of links in S3, and advances in the theory of invariants of 3-manifolds based on Jones- and Vassiliev-type invariants of links. Jones ideas and Thurston's idea are connected by the following path: hyperbolic structures, PSL(2, C) representations, character varieties, quantization of the coordinate ring of the variety to skein modules (i.e. Kauffman, bracket skein module), and finally quantum invariants of 3-manifolds. This proceedings volume covers all those exciting topics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains different developments of infinite dimensional convex programming in the context of convex analysis, including duality, minmax and Lagrangians, and convexification of nonconvex optimization problems in the calculus of variations (infinite dimension). It also includes the theory of convex duality applied to partial differential equations; no other reference presents this in a systematic way. The minmax theorems contained in this book have many useful applications, in particular the robust control of partial differential equations in finite time horizon. First published in English in 1976, this SIAM Classics in Applied Mathematics edition contains the original text along with a new preface and some additional references.

Book Synopsis Fluid Dynamics Transactions by : W. Fiszdon
Download or read book Fluid Dynamics Transactions written by W. Fiszdon and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluid Dynamics Transactions, Volume 1 is a compilation of papers presented at the Fifth Symposium on Fluid Dynamics held in Poland from August 26 to September 2, 1961. The symposium provided a forum for discussing developments in fluid dynamics based on the following topics: mathematical methods, hypersonic flow, rarefied gas dynamics, and magnetohydrodynamics. This volume is comprised of 26 chapters and begins by presenting equations for gas dynamics and highlighting some of applications of the general results. The discussion then turns to Cauchy's problem for the compressible flow of the simple wave type; the use of exact numerical methods for the solution of boundary layer problems; and the effect of surface catalytic efficiency on stagnation point heat transfer. A geometric method of classifying solutions of gas dynamics using certain space and the time-space Lie transformation groups is described. Subsequent chapters explore supersonic flow past blunt bodies; application of the Monte Carlo method to the analysis of rarefied gas flows; and fluid-fluid displacement in a porous medium. This book will be a useful resource for engineers and other scientists interested in fluid dynamics.

Book Synopsis La Modélisation multidimensionnelle des écoulements dans les moteurs by : Thierry Baritaud
Download or read book La Modélisation multidimensionnelle des écoulements dans les moteurs written by Thierry Baritaud and published by Editions TECHNIP. This book was released on 1999 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With an increasingly challenging commercial environment, and the need imposed by safety principles to reduce both fuel consumption and pollutant emissions, the development of new engines can now benefit from the advances of computational fluid dynamics. Engine CFD is a most challenging simulation problem. This is caused by the spread of time and space scales, the excursion amplitude of most parameters, the high quasi-cyclic unstationarity of engine flows, the importance of minor geometry details, the number of physical and chemical processes including turbulent combustion and multi-phase flows to model. However, engine CFD has now reached a state where it has become a widely used tool, not only for engine understanding, but also increasingly for engine design. Undoubtedly, laser diagnostics in optical access engines have also brought significant help.Contents: 1. State of the art of multi-dimensional modeling of engine reacting flows. 2. Simulation of the intake and compression strokes of a motored 4-valve SI engine with a finite element code. 3. A parallel, unstructured-mesh methodology for device-scale combustion calculations. 4. Large-eddy simulation of in-cylinder flows. 5. Simulation of engine internal flows using digital physics. 6. Automatic block decomposition of parametrically changing volumes. 7. Developments in spray modeling in diesel and direct-injection gasoline engines. 8. Cyto-fluid dynamic theory of atomization processes. 9. Influence of the wall temperature on the mixture preparation in DI gasoline engines. 10. Simulation of cavitating flows in diesel injectors. 11. Recent developments in simulations of internal flows in high pressure swirl injectors. 12. 3D simulation of DI diesel combustion and pollutant formation using a two-component reference fuel. 13. Modeling of NOx and soot formation in diesel combustion. 14. Multi-dimensional modeling of combustion and pollutants formation of new technology light duty diesel engines. 15. 3D modeling of combustion for DI-SI engines. 16. Book Synopsis Navier–Stokes Equations by : Roger Temam
Download or read book Navier–Stokes Equations written by Roger Temam and published by American Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2024-05-24 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1977, the book is devoted to the theory and numerical analysis of the Navier-Stokes equations for viscous incompressible fluid. On the theoretical side, results related to the existence, the uniqueness, and, in some cases, the regularity of solutions are presented. On the numerical side, various approaches to the approximation of Navier-Stokes problems by discretization are considered, such as the finite dereference method, the finite element method, and the fractional steps method. The problems of stability and convergence for numerical methods are treated as completely as possible. The new material in the present book (as compared to the preceding 1984 edition) is an appendix reproducing a survey article written in 1998. This appendix touches upon a few aspects not addressed in the earlier editions, in particular a short derivation of the Navier-Stokes equations from the basic conservation principles in continuum mechanics, further historical perspectives, and indications on new developments in the area. The appendix also surveys some aspects of the related Euler equations and the compressible Navier-Stokes equations. The book is written in the style of a textbook and the author has attempted to make the treatment self-contained. It can be used as a textbook or a reference book for researchers. Prerequisites for reading the book include some familiarity with the Navier-Stokes equations and some knowledge of functional analysis and Sololev spaces.
