Download or read book Flitter, Flutter Butterfly written by Sandra Rye Baggett and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2018-09-10 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flitter, Flutter Butterfly—written by Sandra Rye Baggett—is an illustrated children’s book that includes material suitable for children of all ages. The inspiration for Sandra’s book came from her five-year-old granddaughter who asked her to write a butterfly song. Sandra sang the song with her grandchildren for years and used it as part of a unit for her kindergarten classes. The book provides an integrated learning experience for children, inspiring inquiry through the study of nature. Activities are included to help parents and teachers adapt to the child’s learning style. Some of the experiences provided include —questions to practice observation skills, —the life cycle of the butterfly, —journal pages allowing the child to chart butterflies/moths seen in the wild, —music to accompany the butterfly song, and —art activities. Nancy Vinson Nave, retired art teacher, beautifully illustrates the book. Sandra and Nancy were childhood classmates, and they taught in the same school system. It is their hope that parents and teachers will enjoy sharing this book with young children as much as they have enjoyed creating it.

Book excerpt: When the small, Southern town of Simpsonville, Alabama, loses its favorite doctor, the ladies in town give little thought to his ailing widow, Miss Adie, who also served as his trusted nurse and knew all too well the longtime secrets these women have kept hidden. When Miss Adie’s faithful caretaker, Eula, has an idea for keeping her devoted Miss Adie's dwindling health and memory active again—writing a book about the history of the town and its people—the local Ladies Mission Society, believing Miss Adie is writing about their secrets to get revenge on them for rejecting her, starts to take action before their lives are destroyed. With unique and engaging voices, each woman of the Society personally recounts her deepest secret she fears will be exposed in the book. Together, these stories are vignettes of the past that touch on difficult subjects, recalling pain and betrayal as well as moving scenes of rekindled relationships and the importance of friends, family, and faith in the women’s lives, past and present. Filled with poignancy, charm, and a bit of mystery—not to mention some fine Southern cooking—Secrets of the Ladies Mission Society will have readers cheering through tears as it comes to its extraordinary conclusion.

Book excerpt: Rosie is a sixteen-year-old girl with Down syndrome who's fighting for little freedoms, tolerance, and love. "They can't send you away. What will we do? We need us. I stop your angry, Jack. And you make me strong. You make me Rosie." Rosie loves Jack. Jack loves Rosie. So, when they're separated, Rosie will do anything to find the boy who makes the sun shine in her head. Even run away from home. Even struggle across London and travel to Brighton, though the trains are canceled, and the snow is falling. Even though some people might think a girl with Down syndrome could never survive on her own. Introducing a strong, determined, and neurodiverse teen protagonist, debut author Mel Darbon gives readers a unique character experience with a much-needed, alternative point of view. This contemporary young adult novel is a voice-driven, heartfelt story of finding your place in a world that often leaves no room for outsiders.

Book Synopsis Whare de yea belang? by : Bill Griffiths
Download or read book Whare de yea belang? written by Bill Griffiths and published by McNidder & Grace. This book was released on 2024-06-27 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Where de yea belang?brings together the distinctive vocabulary of the North East dialect. "Abackabeyont, bait-poke, cracket, drucken, etten, fettle, guissie pigs, lonnin, marra, nyen, plote, queen-cat, reckling, skinch, tew, upcast, vine, willok, yem, zookers!" If you enjoy finding out about dialect words – how and where and when they were used – and where they came from – this is the best guide to help you explore the world of North East dialect. Until the 20th century, dialect was a marker of economic, social and cultural change. We know that the North East maritime connections with the Dutch led to the introduction of many 'new' words. The Scottish influence of the keelmen (fisherman) on the Tyne and their effect on local language was much more radical. Although the Tyneside dialect and identity and this way of speaking is fast waning, the popularity of discovering this language and dialect shows there is still a great interest in the languages and dialect of the past. The late Bill Griffiths (1948–2007)was an extraordinary writer and poet: radical, experimental and scholarly, but also had a great sense of humour. He was a wonderful champion of the North East, its people and heritage. Born in Middlesex, he read history before graduating in 1969. Bill ran his own independent press and published political pamphlets and essays on the arts and poetry. After gaining a PhD in Old English he fled London and settled in Seaham where he embraced the northern way of life. 'He was also a scholar of Old English and dialect who know how to make his work accessible. Private and uncompetitive, he was at least these things: poet, archivist, scholar, translator, prison-rights campaigner, pianist, historian, curator, performer, editor, short-story writer, essayist, teacher, book-maker and lyricist. The Saturday before he died, Bill discharged himself from hospital to host the Dialect Day at the Morden Tower in Newcastle upon Tyne. He died as he lived: cataloguing, awarding Best Dialect prizes, opera on his radio, the poetry paramount.' Obituary, The Independent, 20 September 2007.
