Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fleecia: The Lost Lamb is an allegory about Jesus as the Shepherd. Fleecia is a lamb that was born in the pasture but now longs to know what adventures she would have if she was to venture out on her own. Fleecia, Merino, and Lupie are best friends. Merino is the levelheaded friend that reminds Fleecia of how good she has it in the pasture, and Lupie is the goofy friend that wants to chase butterflies and count sheep to go to sleep. It is not until she reaches the forest and the night begins to fall that she begins to long for what she left behind. She spends the night in the rain, with no shelter, all the while hearing the creatures of the night. In the morning, she faces new difficulties. The simplicity of being able to find cool, green grass and a refreshing drink of water is much more difficult without the care of the shepherd. When all seems lost and Fleecia finds herself in peril, she finally calls out for the shepherd. The shepherd reaches down and pulls her to safety and returns her to the flock.

A horrifying sickness has spread across the West Texas desert. Infected people—shakes—attack the living, and the surviving towns are only as safe as their perimeter walls are strong. The state is all but quarantined from the rest of the country. Glory, Texas, is a near ghost town. Still, seventeen-year-old Willie has managed to keep her siblings safe, even after the sickness took their mother. But then her good-for-nothing father steals a fortune from one of the most merciless shake hunters in town, and Willie is left on the hook for his debt. With two young hunters as guides, Willie sets out across the desert to find her father. And the desert holds more dangers than just shakes. Download or read book Life Studies written by Susan Vreeland and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2005-11-29 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With her richly textured novels Susan Vreeland has offered pioneering portraits of the artist’s life. Now, in a collection of profound wisdom and beauty, she explores the transcendent power of art through the eyes of ordinary people. Life Studies begins with historic tales that, rather than focusing directly on the great Impressionist and Post-Impressionist masters themselves, render those on the periphery—their lovers, servants, and children—as their personal experiences play out against those of Manet, Monet, van Gogh, and others. Vreeland then gives us contemporary stories in which her characters—a teacher, a construction worker, and an orphan for example—encounter art in meaningful, often surprising ways. A fascinating exploration of the lasting strength of art in everyday life, Life Studies is a dazzling addition to Vreeland’s outstanding body of work.
Download or read book Animal 4.5 written by K'wan and published by Kingston Imperial. This book was released on 2017-04-11 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ''K'wan does a masterful job of keeping readers on their toes right up to the very last page.'-Publishers Weekly Animal 4 Re-Issue featuring Bonus material. From the moment Animal's former lover Red Sonja showed up on his doorstep, he knew trouble wouldn't be far behind. It wasn't because the last time he'd seen her, he had been fleeing for his life from a strange island. Nor was it because of the little girl she had in tow, claiming Animal was the father. It was because women like Red Sonja carried trouble around with them like designer purses. He knew getting involved with Sonja again would come at a price, but he had no idea how steep the price would be until it was too late. With his wife gone and his children abducted by a ruthless drug cartel, Animal must lead a suicide mission into the lair of one of the most dangerous assassins in the world, a woman who calls herself Tiger Lily. To go against Tiger Lily and the cartel Animal would need an army, so the call to arms is put out and the streets readily answer. Leading a handful of loyal souls against seemingly insurmountable odds, Animal races against the clock to save his children and put a stop to Tiger Lily and the cartel's plans, while trying to stay one step ahead of the two detectives following the trail of bodies. Things take an unexpected turn when Animal learns a dark truth hidden beneath what he had been led to believe that changes everything, including who can be trusted. When the Grand Design his father had always spoken of is finally revealed Animal will be forced to make the hard choice between love, loyalty, and vengeance.
Download or read book The Great Gulf Coast written by Dan Ellis and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2001-01-22 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Great Gulf Coast - Sails, Trails and Rails" is exactly as its name states. It is the elucidation of coastal transportation from early times to the present. With the exception of air travel, Ellis's chronicles begin with describing the water vessels that traveled the lakes, bayous, and the Mississippi Sound. In this regard, he unfolds the colonial periods of domination by the French, British, and Spanish. And the flags honoring those nations went through serial changes until 1811, when the first American banner was raised displaying 15 stars and stripes. This flag was presented by Dr. William Flood as he commanded his schooner, the Alligator, in making several stopovers along the Coast. Mississippi went from being a territory to statehood - and its early first settlers experienced the Great Migration and the establishment of the Antebellum era. With the influx of new people, the early coastal towns and cities were primarily engaged in farming, fishing, lumbering, and ship building. As New Orleans and inland plantations became attracted to the health benefits and exotic charm of the Gulf Coast, each of the coastal villages began vying against each other in attracting the rich Louisiana planters and businessmen. Health resorts developed into famed "Watering Places" as grandiose hotels were built to accommodate and entertain the Cream of Southern Society.
