Book Synopsis Function Algebras on Finite Sets by : Dietlinde Lau
Download or read book Function Algebras on Finite Sets written by Dietlinde Lau and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-11-23 with total page 668 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Function Algebras on Finite Sets gives a broad introduction to the subject, leading up to the cutting edge of research. The general concepts of the Universal Algebra are given in the first part of the book, to familiarize the reader from the very beginning on with the algebraic side of function algebras. The second part covers the following topics: Galois-connection between function algebras and relation algebras, completeness criterions, and clone theory.
Book Synopsis Fourier Transforms of Invariant Functions on Finite Reductive Lie Algebras by : Emmanuel Letellier
Download or read book Fourier Transforms of Invariant Functions on Finite Reductive Lie Algebras written by Emmanuel Letellier and published by Springer. This book was released on 2004-11-15 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Fourier transforms of invariant functions on finite reductive Lie algebras are due to T.A. Springer (1976) in connection with the geometry of nilpotent orbits. In this book the author studies Fourier transforms using Deligne-Lusztig induction and the Lie algebra version of Lusztig’s character sheaves theory. He conjectures a commutation formula between Deligne-Lusztig induction and Fourier transforms that he proves in many cases. As an application the computation of the values of the trigonometric sums (on reductive Lie algebras) is shown to reduce to the computation of the generalized Green functions and to the computation of some fourth roots of unity.
Book Synopsis Finite Form Representations for Meijer G and Fox H Functions by : Carlos A. Coelho
Download or read book Finite Form Representations for Meijer G and Fox H Functions written by Carlos A. Coelho and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-12-13 with total page 529 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book depicts a wide range of situations in which there exist finite form representations for the Meijer G and the Fox H functions. Accordingly, it will be of interest to researchers and graduate students who, when implementing likelihood ratio tests in multivariate analysis, would like to know if there exists an explicit manageable finite form for the distribution of the test statistics. In these cases, both the exact quantiles and the exact p-values of the likelihood ratio tests can be computed quickly and efficiently. The test statistics in question range from common ones, such as those used to test e.g. the equality of means or the independence of blocks of variables in real or complex normally distributed random vectors; to far more elaborate tests on the structure of covariance matrices and equality of mean vectors. The book also provides computational modules in Mathematica®, MAXIMA and R, which allow readers to easily implement, plot and compute the distributions of any of these statistics, or any other statistics that fit into the general paradigm described here.

Book Synopsis Finite Model Theory and Its Applications by : Erich Grädel
Download or read book Finite Model Theory and Its Applications written by Erich Grädel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-06-04 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finite model theory,as understoodhere, is an areaof mathematicallogic that has developed in close connection with applications to computer science, in particular the theory of computational complexity and database theory. One of the fundamental insights of mathematical logic is that our understanding of mathematical phenomena is enriched by elevating the languages we use to describe mathematical structures to objects of explicit study. If mathematics is the science of patterns, then the media through which we discern patterns, as well as the structures in which we discern them, command our attention. It isthis aspect oflogicwhichis mostprominentin model theory,“thebranchof mathematical logic which deals with the relation between a formal language and its interpretations”. No wonder, then, that mathematical logic, and ?nite model theory in particular, should ?nd manifold applications in computer science: from specifying programs to querying databases, computer science is rife with phenomena whose understanding requires close attention to the interaction between language and structure. This volume gives a broadoverviewof some central themes of ?nite model theory: expressive power, descriptive complexity, and zero–one laws, together with selected applications to database theory and arti?cial intelligence, es- cially constraint databases and constraint satisfaction problems. The ?nal chapter provides a concise modern introduction to modal logic, which emp- sizes the continuity in spirit and technique with ?nite model theory.

Book Synopsis Finite-State Text Processing by : Kyle Gorman
Download or read book Finite-State Text Processing written by Kyle Gorman and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-01 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Weighted finite-state transducers (WFSTs) are commonly used by engineers and computational linguists for processing and generating speech and text. This book first provides a detailed introduction to this formalism. It then introduces Pynini, a Python library for compiling finite-state grammars and for combining, optimizing, applying, and searching finite-state transducers. This book illustrates this library's conventions and use with a series of case studies. These include the compilation and application of context-dependent rewrite rules, the construction of morphological analyzers and generators, and text generation and processing applications.
