Download or read book Massively Parallel Finite Element Analysis of Three-Dimensional Flows in Materials Processing Systems written by and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An example of the calculation of mixing flows in a solution crystal growth system is shown here. Solution crystal growth is an important means of producing a wide variety of organic and inorganic crystals. In these systems, a single crystal is grown from a supersaturated solution in which the material to be crystallized is dissolved as a solute. Macroscopic transport of solute molecules from the liquid solution phase to the faces of the growing crystal is almost wholly determined by fluid mechanics. Until recently, the extreme challenges posed by modeling flows within the 3D geometry of such systems has limited progress in understanding transport effects; the calculations shown here represent one of the first efforts to rigorously model flows within a solution crystal growth system.

Book Synopsis The Finite Element Method for Three-Dimensional Thermomechanical Applications by : Guido Dhondt
Download or read book The Finite Element Method for Three-Dimensional Thermomechanical Applications written by Guido Dhondt and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2004 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though many 'finite element' books exist, this book provides a unique focus on developing the method for three-dimensional, industrial problems. This is significant as many methods which work well for small applications fail for large scale problems, which generally: are not so well posed introduce stringent computer time conditions require robust solution techniques. Starting from sound continuum mechanics principles, derivation in this book focuses only on proven methods. Coverage of all different aspects of linear and nonlinear thermal mechanical problems in solids are described, thereby avoiding distracting the reader with extraneous solutions paths. Emphasis is put on consistent representation and includes the examination of topics which are not frequently found in other texts, such as cyclic symmetry, rigid body motion and nonlinear multiple point constraints. Advanced material formulations include anisotropic hyperelasticity, large strain multiplicative viscoplasticity and single crystal viscoplasticity. Finally, the methods described in the book are implemented in the finite element software CalculiX, which is freely available (www.calculix.de; the GNU General Public License applies). Suited to industry practitioners and academic researchers alike, The Finite Element Method for Three-Dimensional Thermomechanical Applications expertly bridges the gap between continuum mechanics and the finite element method.
Book Synopsis Science and Technology of Crystal Growth by : J.P. van der Eerden
Download or read book Science and Technology of Crystal Growth written by J.P. van der Eerden and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 1. The ninth International Summer School on Crystal Growth. ISSCG IX A complete theory of crystal growth establishes the full dependence of crystal size, shape and structure on external parameters like temperature, pressure, composition, purity, growth rate and stirring of the mother phase, implicitly establishing how the corresponding fields vary in space and time. Such a theory does not exist, however. Therefore equipment to grow crystals is developed on the basis of partial knowledge. Skill, experience and creativity still are of central importance for the success o~ a crystal growth system. In this book we collected contributions from the teachers of the ninth International Summer School on Crystal Growth ISSCG IX, held 11-16 june 1995 at Papendal, the national sports centre of the Netherlands. These contributions were used during the lectures. The authors have tried to present their work in such a way that only basic physical knowledge is required to understand the papers. The book can be used as an introduction to various important sub disciplines of the science and technology of crystal growth. Since, however the information content considerably exceeds a lecture note level and touches the present limits of understanding, it is an up to date handbook as well.
Book Synopsis The Finite Element Method for Fluid Dynamics by : Olek C Zienkiewicz
Download or read book The Finite Element Method for Fluid Dynamics written by Olek C Zienkiewicz and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 581 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Finite Element Method for Fluid Dynamics offers a complete introduction the application of the finite element method to fluid mechanics. The book begins with a useful summary of all relevant partial differential equations before moving on to discuss convection stabilization procedures, steady and transient state equations, and numerical solution of fluid dynamic equations. The character-based split (CBS) scheme is introduced and discussed in detail, followed by thorough coverage of incompressible and compressible fluid dynamics, flow through porous media, shallow water flow, and the numerical treatment of long and short waves. Updated throughout, this new edition includes new chapters on: Fluid-structure interaction, including discussion of one-dimensional and multidimensional problems Biofluid dynamics, covering flow throughout the human arterial system Focusing on the core knowledge, mathematical and analytical tools needed for successful computational fluid dynamics (CFD), The Finite Element Method for Fluid Dynamics is the authoritative introduction of choice for graduate level students, researchers and professional engineers. A proven keystone reference in the library of any engineer needing to understand and apply the finite element method to fluid mechanics Founded by an influential pioneer in the field and updated in this seventh edition by leading academics who worked closely with Olgierd C. Zienkiewicz Features new chapters on fluid-structure interaction and biofluid dynamics, including coverage of one-dimensional flow in flexible pipes and challenges in modeling systemic arterial circulation

Download or read book Variational Methods in Geosciences written by Y.K. Sasaki and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last few decades have seen a spectacular growth in the use of variational methods, one of the most classic and elegant methods in physical and mathematical sciences, as powerful tools of optimization and numerical analysis. The tremendous accumulation of information on the use of variational methods in the area of the geosciences, which includes meteorology, oceanography, hydrology, geophysics and seismology, indicated the need for the first symposium on Variational Methods in Geosciences to be organized and held in Norman on October 15-17, 1985. The value of this symposium was enhanced by the number of stimulating and informative papers presented.
