Book Synopsis The Rationale of Operative Fracture Care by : Joseph Schatzker
Download or read book The Rationale of Operative Fracture Care written by Joseph Schatzker and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After the publication of the AO book Technique of Internal Fixation of Fractures (Miiller, Allgower and Willenegger, Springer-Verlag, 1965), the authors decided after considerable discussion amongst themselves and other members of the Swiss AO that the next edition would appear in three volumes. In 1969, the first volume was published (the English edition, Manual of Internal Fixation, appeared in 1970). This was a manual of surgical technique which discussed implants and instruments and in which the problems of internal fixation were presented schematically without radio logical illustrations. The second volume was to be a treatise on the biomechanical basis of internal fixation as elucidated by the work done in the laboratory for experi mental surgery in Davos. The third volume was planned as the culminating effort based upon the first two volumes, treating the problems of specific fractures and richly illustrated with clinical and radiological examples. It was also to discuss results of treatment, comparing the results obtained with the AO method with other methods. The second and third volumes were never published. The second edition of the AO Manual appeared in 1977. It dealt in greater detail with the problems discussed in the first edition, although it still lacked clinical exam ples and any discussion of indications for surgery. Like the first edition, it was trans lated into many languages and was well received. Finally, after 22 years, the much discussed and much needed third volume has appeared.

Book Synopsis Normal and Pathological Anatomy of the Shoulder by : Gregory I. Bain
Download or read book Normal and Pathological Anatomy of the Shoulder written by Gregory I. Bain and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-05-05 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This cutting-edge monograph on advanced clinical anatomy and pathoanatomy of the shoulder, written by the world’s leading authors, reflects recent significant advances in understanding of anatomy and pathology. It is beautifully illustrated with exquisite photographs of anatomical specimens, and images from arthroscopy, histology, and radiology complete the picture. The accompanying text brings out the clinical, biomechanical, and functional relevance and focuses on aspects important to the high-performance athlete. In addition, the book closely assesses how each component of the normal anatomy responds to trauma, disease, and degeneration. The finer points of the pathoanatomy are demonstrated with clinical cases, histology, radiology, arthroscopy, and open surgery. The text details how the pathoanatomy affects the patient presentation, clinical examination, and imaging. It is also explained how the pathology affects the natural history and the outcome of physical therapy and influences recommendations for surgical treatments. This book will be of immense value both to trainees and to specialists who manage disorders of the shoulder, including orthopedic surgeons, sports physicians, and physiotherapists. It will also be of great interest to anatomists and pathologists.
Book Synopsis Shoulder Arthroplasty by : Gilles Walch
Download or read book Shoulder Arthroplasty written by Gilles Walch and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Success in shoulder arthroplastic surgery is not necessarily dependent only on the principle of construction of a prosthetic device, nor on the way this device is implanted or fixed to the bony interface, but more so on the understanding and handling of the soft tissues surrounding the articulation. Based on their experience in basic anatomy and function, the editors of this book were able to develop a prosthetic device which can take into account individual anatomical variations in each patient, making a successful outcome of surgery much more predictable. This must-have for any shoulder surgeon not only informs on the current state-of-the-art, but also provides an understanding of what advances can be achieved with innovative thinking in the field of orthopaedic surgery.

Book Synopsis The Comprehensive Classification of Fractures of Long Bones by : Maurice E. Müller
Download or read book The Comprehensive Classification of Fractures of Long Bones written by Maurice E. Müller and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of the origin and development of the new Classification of Fractures was described in the preface to the French edition. The history of the acceptance of this new concept dates back to 1986, when the Swiss Association for the Study of the Problems of Internal Fixation (AO) accepted the new Classification of Fractures. In the same year, the Trustees of the AO/ASIF Foundation, at their annual meeting in Montreux, adopted the new AO Classification as the basis for fracture classification to be used in the planned third edition of the AO/ASIF Manual. In August 1987, the French edition of "The Comprehensive Classification of Fractures of Long Bones" made its first appearance, coincident with the Congress of the International Society of Orthopaedic Surgery (SICOn in Munich. This precipitated a great deal of interest in the subject. This interest persisted, so that in February of 1988 the President of SICOT, Sir Dennis Paterson, formed a "Presidential Commission for Documentation and Evaluation" with Maurice E. Muller as Chairman.
