Although the core of the Work will focus on the design, analysis, and interpretation of scientific data from clinical trials, a broad spectrum of clinical trial application areas will be covered in detail. This is an important time to develop such a Work, as drug safety and efficacy emphasizes the Clinical Trials process. Because of an immense and growing international disease burden, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies continue to develop new drugs. Clinical trials have also become extremely globalized in the past 15 years, with over 225,000 international trials ongoing at this point in time. Principles in Practice of Clinical Trials is truly an interdisciplinary that will be divided into the following areas: 1) Clinical Trials Basic Perspectives 2) Regulation and Oversight 3) Basic Trial Designs 4) Advanced Trial Designs 5) Analysis 6) Trial Publication 7) Topics Related Specific Populations and Legal Aspects of Clinical Trials The Work is designed to be comprised of 175 chapters and approximately 2500 pages. The Work will be oriented like many of our SpringerReference Handbooks, presenting detailed and comprehensive expository chapters on broad subjects. The Editors are major figures in the field of clinical trials, and both have written textbooks on the topic. There will also be a slate of 7-8 renowned associate editors that will edit individual sections of the Reference.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'The Road to Results: Designing and Conducting Effective Development Evaluations' presents concepts and procedures for evaluation in a development context. It provides procedures and examples on how to set up a monitoring and evaluation system, how to conduct participatory evaluations and do social mapping, and how to construct a "rigorous" quasi-experimental design to answer an impact question. The text begins with the context of development evaluation and how it arrived where it is today. It then discusses current issues driving development evaluation, such as the Millennium Development Goals and the move from simple project evaluations to the broader understandings of complex evaluations. The topics of implementing 'Results-based Measurement and Evaluation' and constructing a 'Theory of Change' are emphasized throughout the text. Next, the authors take the reader down 'the road to results, ' presenting procedures for evaluating projects, programs, and policies by using a 'Design Matrix' to help map the process. This road includes: determining the overall approach, formulating questions, selecting designs, developing data collection instruments, choosing a sampling strategy, and planning data analysis for qualitative, quantitative, and mixed method evaluations. The book also includes discussions on conducting complex evaluations, how to manage evaluations, how to present results, and ethical behavior--including principles, standards, and guidelines. The final chapter discusses the future of development evaluation. This comprehensive text is an essential tool for those involved in development evaluation.

Book excerpt: This cross-cultural study investigates help-seeking for depression among Japanese primary school teachers. Help-seeking for depressive symptoms is examined quantitatively by administering the Help-Seeking Scale for Depression among participants. In addition, this study qualitatively examines the help-seeking pathways of participants according to Kleinman's explanatory model of help-seeking. The objective of the study was to determine possible motivators for Japanese and other Asian people to seek professional help for symptoms of mental illness. The participants consisted of 71 Japanese school teachers from four primary schools located in the Kansai region of Japan. Participants' conceptualizations of depression were assessed using the Help-Seeking Scale for Depression (HSSD) after reading a vignette describing depressive symptoms. Participants' perceived severity of depressive symptoms (hypothesis 1) and prior therapy/counseling experience (hypothesis 2) significantly predicted professional help-seeking. The prevalence of depression was significantly higher in female participants (hypothesis 3); results indicating prevalence were non-significant for males. Hypotheses 1 and 2 were supported at p

Book excerpt: This book is about the outcome of a study that assessed factors that affect long-term marriages (10 or more years, spouses age 30-59 years) in the Maldives. Marriage is an evolving institution that contributes to diversifying the human race. In Islam marriage is a sacred bond that shapes a better society. Recent research on marriage observed that the rate of marriage is declining and the rate of divorce is increasing. For example, in the Maldives for every 2.3 marriages, one marriage ended in divorce. There is no study to date conducted in the Maldives about the factors that may be associated with retaining long-term marriages. Thus, this book aims to explore factors of long-term marriage which could be applied during marital therapy/counseling to aid in couple therapy intervention and future research. The book describes the association between long-term marital factors such as religiosity, spirituality, self-awareness, perception of a long-term marriage, and demographics. The book provides tips for researchers, counselors, and psychologists when handling clients with marital conflicts.

Brooks Constantly striving for success can lead to a loss of happiness in the long term. In our fast-paced world, we often find ourselves relentlessly pursuing traditional achievements, neglecting other vital aspects of life. Arthur C. Brooks, in his book "From Strength to Strength" (2022), explains this phenomenon and offers solutions. He highlights two phases of career success, each associated with different types of intelligence: one in youth and another in later life. Preparing for the second phase with the right mindset enables a seamless transition between these strengths. The Curse Of Striver The "striver's curse" is an underlying source of anguish that afflicts many accomplished individuals. It manifests as an unceasing drive to constantly do more, achieve greatness, and attain larger goals, often at the expense of personal contentment. This perpetual quest for success leaves individuals dissatisfied in the long run. Breaking free from this curse is attainable for anyone willing to put in the effort. Arthur Brooks' own transformation from this mindset significantly improved his life and can do the same for others. Challenging your innate desire to be a "striver" may be difficult but ultimately rewarding. Embracing your imperfections and relinquishing self-imposed limitations can lead to lasting happiness and enhanced success. Confronting the inevitability of decline and mortality with bravery and self-assurance can help mend neglected relationships from the pursuit of worldly success. While stepping into the unknown may be intimidating after investing substantial effort to avoid it, it also holds the promise of excitement and new opportunities. Grab a copy andlearn more!
