Book excerpt: Companies routinely claim that 'Our People Are Our Greatest Asset', but research data shows that in practice most people do not actually use their assets much at work. This books aims to change that. When employees learn how to truly apply their greatest strengths at work, they turbo-charge their career potential and everybody wins. Companies find that their employees are more productive, their teams are more effective, their organization is more innovative and, accordingly, their customers are more engaged. In FIRST, BREAK ALL THE RULES, Marcus Buckingham proved the link between engaged employees and more profitable bottom lines and highlighted great managers as the catalyst. In NOW, DISCOVER YOUR STRENGTHS he explained how to sort through your patterns of wishes, abilities, thoughts and feelings and, with the help of a web-based profile, identify your five most dominant talents. In GO, PUT YOUR STRENGTHS TO WORK he shows you how to take the crucial next step. How to seize control of your time at work and, in the face of a world that doesn't much care whether you are playing to your strengths, how to rewrite your job description under the nose of your boss.

What if you could, with a little effort, live an extraordinary life? A life in which you felt deep passion for everything you did, and always had time for what matters most? A life in which you had the power, the daring, and the will to make your boldest dreams come true, all while you happily left feelings of inadequacy or guilt behind? Cultivating the entrepreneurial spirit inside you--the spirit that allows you to embrace your individuality, to look not just at what is but at what could be, to believe in yourself beyond reason and to step up to creating your own definition of happiness and success--a version of success in which work and family life happily co-exist--instead of chasing a cookie-cutter version. Whether we work a corporate job, run a family, or run our own business, Herrin offers realistic, attainable steps each one of us can take to achieve extraordinary success on our own terms. Book excerpt: From the bestselling author of P.S., I Love You, a fiercely feminist story collection that illuminates, sometimes in fantastical ways, how women of all kinds navigate the world today—now an Apple TV+ series from the creators of GLOW starring Nicole Kidman, Cynthia Erivo, Merritt Wever, and Alison Brie! In this singular and imaginative story collection, Cecelia Ahern explores the endless ways in which women blaze through adversity with wit, resourcefulness, and compassion. Ahern takes the familiar aspects of women's lives—the routines, the embarrassments, the desires—and elevates these moments to the outlandish and hilarious with her astute blend of magical realism and social insight. One woman is tortured by sinister bite marks that appear on her skin; another is swallowed up by the floor during a mortifying presentation; yet another resolves to return and exchange her boring husband at the store where she originally acquired him. The women at the center of this curious universe learn that their reality is shaped not only by how others perceive them, but also how they perceive the power within themselves. By turns sly, whimsical, and affecting, these thirty short stories are a dynamic examination of what it means to be a woman in this very moment. Like women themselves, each story can stand alone; yet together, they have a combined power to shift consciousness, inspire others, and create a multi-voiced Roar that will not be ignored. Includes a Reading Group Guide.

This book was released on 1884 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has often occurred to the author that there are two principal defects in the existing treatises on the game of whist - the one that the principles of play are, in general, laid down as so many isolated and arbitrary conventions, the reasons upon which such principles are based being seldom, if at all, and scarcely ever fully, stated; the other, that suitable illustrations, by which alone the principles can be brought forcibly home and fixed in the memory, are almost entirely wanting. The present work is an attempt to supply these deficiencies. With regard to the latter, the author feels that nothing, in point of illustration of principles, can be so instructive as a selection of hands played completely through, and accompanied by copious explanations. The idea, it is believed, as applied to whist, is a new one, though a similar plan has long been in use in treatises on chess. It has not been deemed necessary to occupy space by detailing the mode of playing and of scoring, as this information can be readily acquired at the table. The reader is, therefore, credited with this elementary knowledge, and is conducted at once to the general principles, which he is advised to consider carefully before proceeding to the hands.

Book excerpt: A guide to the Ayurvedic personality types, or doshas, with psychology-based advice on cultivating balance, from the author of The Ayurvedic Self-Care Handbook At the core of Ayurveda is an understanding that we are all made of the same materials—the five elements of ether (space), air, fire, water, and earth—and how you look, think, and feel can be traced back to your unique proportion of these elements at any given time. This is your dosha, the true essence of who you are. Knowing your dosha is the key to deeper self-knowledge, easier relationships, and a happier future. In The Seven Ways of Ayurveda, you’ll discover which type fits you best. Vata: creator, multitasker, artist Pitta: perfectionist, challenger, leader Kapha: peacemaker, nurturer, lover Vata-Pitta: performer, innovator, first responder Pitta-Kapha: guardian, moralist, observer Vata-Kapha: dreamer, supporter, conversationalist Tri-Dosha: proficient in all trades, well-rounded Then, you’ll identify your innate strengths (and their “shadow sides”); whether you’re out of balance (and what to do); how your unique type approaches work, love, travel, and more; and how to forge true, mutual understanding with friends and loved ones whose doshas may differ. When you know yourself better, you can take better care of yourself—and others, too.

Book excerpt: Four suspenseful southwestern mysteries featuring a Chicano PI in New Mexico, by the “extraordinary” author of Bless Me, Ultima (Los Angeles Times Book Review). These four novels starring detective Sonny Baca are set against the terrain of the American Southwest, blending its Spanish, Mexican, and Native American cultures. Zia Summer: Sonny Baca’s cousin Gloria is brutally slain, her body found drained of blood with a Zia sun sign—the symbol on the New Mexican flag—carved on her stomach. His quest to find her killer leads Baca across New Mexico’s diverse South Valley to an environmental compound and a terrifying brujo. Rio Grande Fall: A woman plummets to her death from a hot air balloon during Albuquerque’s famous Balloon Fiesta—and Baca recognizes it as no accident. Shaman Winter: Baca, confined to a wheelchair after a violent encounter, is haunted by chilling dreams, but has no choice but to go to work when the Santa Fe mayor’s teenage daughter disappears and the trail leads to a charismatic and dangerous shaman. Jemez Spring: A high-profile murder ignites a hotbed of political treachery and terrorist threats that take Baca to Los Alamos, pitting him against a formidable foe—and a nuclear bomb. Unrelentingly suspenseful, with vivid details of the physical and spiritual landscape of northern New Mexico, these mysteries are perfect for fans of Margaret Coel or James D. Doss and star “a fascinating hero” (Edmonton Journal).
