Book Synopsis A Share of the Spoils by : Peter Andrew Reilly
Download or read book A Share of the Spoils written by Peter Andrew Reilly and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study reviews the evidence of whether employee financial participation can lead to greater employee commitment to the purposes of the organization, or whether it is simply a means of giving or receiving tax-efficient remuneration. The report does this by looking at the different forms of employee financial participation - how they have developed and why they have been introduced. It also looks at survey evidence on the impact of financial participation on employee attitudes and behaviour. Is it merely another form of pay, generating little involvement by employees, or does it help attract, retain and motivate staff? Employee financial participation can be associated with improved productivity and more positive employee attitudes, but it cannot be proved that there is a causal relationship between the employee financial participation and these benefits.
Book Synopsis Economic Democracy and Financial Participation by : Daryl D'Art
Download or read book Economic Democracy and Financial Participation written by Daryl D'Art and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2002-03-11 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ideas of economic democracy and financial participation are not new. The International Congress on profit-sharing first met in Paris in 1889. However since then, the numerous schemes have met with mixed reactions and various levels of success. In Economic Democracy and Financial Participation, Daryl D'Art has two objectives. Firstly, to examine if, and under what conditions, profit-sharing schemes and employee shareholding can motivate workers and generate cooperative striving. Secondly he identifies the schemes of financial participation which have the potential to realise economic democracy within the individual firm and wider society.

Download or read book Employee Financial Participation in European Companies written by Besa Xhaferi and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-12-01 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is discrepancy of the diffusion of Financial Participation schemes in EU member and candidate countries. The incidence of FP is conditional on country specific characteristics, firm specific characteristics and/or trade unions attitude. A supportive government and legal framework and a friendly trade union attitude may lead to increasing level of FP incidence. Companies that use other HRM measures (e.g. training) as well as large companies may be more prone to using FP schemes. Looking at the benefits and drawbacks of the variety of qualitative datasets which contain information on FP, we choose the EWCS dataset for our analyzes because of the high response rates, the high geographic coverage of EU member and candidate countries, the large number of observations, and because the respondents of the questionnaire are employees not the management. Our econometric results suggest that FP schemes used in the EU are discriminatory rather than providing equal opportunity for all employees - discriminatory with respect to gender and selective with respect to employee category, education level, size and sector of activity of the company.

Book Synopsis Employee Voice and Participation by : Jeff Hyman
Download or read book Employee Voice and Participation written by Jeff Hyman and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-06-13 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Employee participation and voice (EPV) concern power and influence. Traditionally, EPV has encompassed worker attempts to wrest control from employers through radical societal transformation or to share control through collective regulation by trade unions. This book offers a controversial alternative arguing that, in recent years, participation has shifted direction. In Employee Voice and Participation, the author contends that participation has moved away from employee attempts to secure autonomy and influence over organisational affairs, to one in which management ideas and initiatives have taken centre stage. This shift has been bolstered in the UK and USA by economic policies that treat regulation as an obstacle to competitive performance. Through an examination of the development of ideas and practice surrounding employee voice and participation, this volume tracks the story from the earliest attempts at securing worker control, through to the rise of trade unions, and today’s managerial efforts to contain union influence. It also explores the negative consequences of these changes and, though the outlook is pessimistic, considers possible approaches to address the growing power imbalance between employers and workers. Employee Voice and Participation will be an excellent supplementary text for advanced students of employment relations and Human Resource Management (HRM). It will also be a valuable read for researchers, policy makers, trade unions and HRM professionals.
Book Synopsis Financial Participation of Employees in Estonia by : Raul Eamets
Download or read book Financial Participation of Employees in Estonia written by Raul Eamets and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presently, legal regulation of participation of employees - financial participation as well as participation in decision-making - is not well developed in Estonia. On the one hand, it is due to the fact that no tradition of employee participation could have been formed after Estonia became independent because different, contrary political aims, e.g. development of the free-market economy and promotion of national elites, were given priority. Although employee ownership emerged during the early stage of privatization, it was a temporary phenomenon. Earlier experience with employee participation in decision-making was considered to be a relict from the time under Soviet rule and, therefore, to be discredited and not worth following. On the other hand, the solution of current employment and social problems is not associated with a higher level of participation of employees.
