Book excerpt: You know you need to learn more about personal finance in order to make financial decisions, but you just find it too overwhelming, too intimidating, and too time consuming. This book was written for you, giving you the basics in less than an hour, and then directing you to further resources (fischlearning.com/tldr) if you'd like to learn more. It's about 30 pages and should take less than an hour to read, so instead of TL;DR (Too Long; Didn't Read) it will hopefully be JR;DR;KM (Just Right, Did Read, Know More). This book isn't about "getting rich quickly" (not that's there anything wrong with that), but it's about gaining knowledge and building your capacity in order to live a good life. What's a "good life"? I don't know, everyone's definition is different. What's important is that you take the time to define what a good life is for you, and then align your financial decisions with that. The goal of this book is to help you think about your finances in such a way that you have the independence to lead the life you want to live; to give you as much control as possible over your financial situation so that your finances don't prevent you from living the life you want.I say "book" because that's what Amazon calls it, but it's more like a really long blog post. I wrote it because finances and financial decisions are such a huge part of everyone's life that they should take the time to thoroughly educate themselves. Since many folks won't do that, this book is an attempt to quickly give them the basics and hopefully encourage them - and give them the confidence - to learn more.I am not a financial planner. I have taught students mathematics and computer science for over thirty years, but have no formal training in personal finance or investing, and no certifications. I am simply a lifelong learner, constantly curious, and have been interested in personal finance since working in a credit union during high school and college, and continued to be curious and learn more about finance during my career as a public school teacher. Over my years as a teacher, I discovered that not only did my students not know much about personal finance, but neither did my family, friends and colleagues (I often served as a resource for those folks).Partially as a result of that experience, I see the necessity for a book such as this, as I wanted to do my part to try to help others become financially literate. While it would be nice to make a little bit of money from this, that's not really my expectation or my goal. This is a passion project for me. I hope folks find it helpful. If you do read it, it would be helpful if you could leave a review on Amazon and/or email me at [email protected] a "testimonial" for the accompanying website. I would also love constructive feedback at bit.ly/tldrfeedbackSo, about thirty pages. About an hour. Ready to get started? Future you will thank you.

Book excerpt: You've been lied to: you don't need to be a financial whiz or a social media millionaire to live a life of financial abundance. But as a young adult who's dipping their toes into the murky waters of personal finance, money is hard to get and easy to lose. We're never taught how to make it, let alone invest it and protect it. We don't know what we don't know, so our dreams of financial freedom go up in smoke, and we're sitting wondering where it all went wrong. Here's the good news: you - yes you reading this right now - have the power to flip that script. You can profit where others lose, and prosper where others fail. How? Well, the remedy is simple, but rarely taught. It involves a plan backed by data, strategies rooted in predictable returns, and knowledge that helps you avoid the costly money traps that most young adults fall into. And you can do this without rich parents, a movie star salary or an expensive investing degree. Oh, and Wall Street lied too: personal finance doesn't have to be confusing or scary or boring or risky. Author Emily Carter knows what it's like to have her finances in the gutter. She learned the hard way, and it cost her several years, hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars to reverse her fortune. Those trials and tribulations led to her first book, 'Money Skills for Teens', with thousands of parents and teens across the globe leaning on Emily's wisdom to avoid the costly money mistakes most young people make. Emily now lives off passive income from past investments - thanks to the teachings in this book. These days, she travels, gives, explores, learns, teaches and glides her way through life without a care in the world. And soon, with the help of this fast-moving money bible for young adults, you'll be able to do the same. Here's just a sliver of what's covered: Why most debt advice should be avoided, and how you can actually grow your money by leveraging the power of good debt (while avoiding bad debt like the plague) Must-know interest rate and pension commandments The battle-tested mindset to break free from poverty Budgeting strategies that make your money go further now, and grow huge over time How to harness the power of your credit card, turning it into your biggest asset for more leverage, options, and freedom How 'little and often' investments can offer gigantic returns, even if your salary is low and your contributions are minimal You can have it all. Contrary to the lies we're fed, it doesn't take 50 years and millions of dollars to secure your financial future. It does take knowledge, will, and the patience to enjoy the fruits of your labour. Remember: this book is designed to let you live life now, regardless of your income, whilst ensuring your future self has everything they need and more to live the life you've always dreamed of.
