Download or read book Lipases written by Paul Woolley and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2012-01-26 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 1994 book provides a fascinating account of the fast-moving field of lipase research. The contributions, written by active research workers, summarise developments in the field and give access to recent literature. It covers both the lipases proper (triglyceride lipases and the phospholipases. It gives a comprehensive picture of the state of knowledge of these enzymes, with a strong bias towards the fields that are attracting the greatest attention: their detailed molecular structure, their mechanism of action, their position in the evolution of enzymes, and their application both in the laboratory and industry. The book will continue to be of interest to those working in universities, in research institutes and in companies specialising in biotechnology. The book will also be a useful reference book for postgraduate students entering this field of research.
Book Synopsis Aqueous Two-Phase Systems by : Rajni Hatti-Kaul
Download or read book Aqueous Two-Phase Systems written by Rajni Hatti-Kaul and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-02-05 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A mixture of two polymers, or one polymer and a salt, in an aqueous medium separates into two phases: this phenomenon is useful in biotechn- ogy for product separations. Separation of biological molecules and particles in these aqueous two-phase systems (ATPS) was initiated over 40 years ago by P.-Å. Albertsson, and later proved to be of immense utility in biochemical and cell biological research. A boost in the application of ATPS was seen when problems of separations in biotechnology processes were encountered. Its simplicity, biocompatibility, and amenability to easy scaleup operations make the use of ATPS very attractive for large-scale bioseparations. Despite the advantages ATPS enjoys over other separation techniques, the application of two-phase systems has for a long time been confined to selected labora- ries. Recent years have, however, shown a trend in which increasing numbers of researchers employ two-phase partitioning techniques in both basic and applied research.

Book Synopsis Chemical Deterioration and Physical Instability of Food and Beverages by : Leif H Skibsted
Download or read book Chemical Deterioration and Physical Instability of Food and Beverages written by Leif H Skibsted and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2010-04-23 with total page 820 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For a food product to be a success in the marketplace it must be stable throughout its shelf-life. Quality deterioration due to chemical changes and alterations in condition due to physical instability are not always recognised, yet can be just as problematic as microbial spoilage. This book provides an authoritative review of key topics in this area. Chapters in part one focus on the chemical reactions which can negatively affect food quality, such as oxidative rancidity, and their measurement. Part two reviews quality deterioration associated with physical changes, such as moisture loss, gain and migration, crystallization and emulsion breakdown. Contributions in the following section outline the likely effects on different foods and beverages, including bakery products, fruit and vegetables, ready-to-eat meals and wine. With contributions from leaders in their fields, Chemical deterioration and physical instability of food and beverages is an essential reference for R&D and QA staff in the food industry and researchers with an interested in this subject. - Examines chemical reactions which can negatively affect food quality and measurement - Reviews quality deterioration associated with physical changes such as moisture loss, gain and migration, and crystallization - Documents deterioration in specific food and beverage products including bakery products, frozen foods and wine

Book Synopsis The Palestine Question in International Law by : Victor Kattan
Download or read book The Palestine Question in International Law written by Victor Kattan and published by British Institute for International & Comparative Law. This book was released on 2008 with total page 1248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The question of Palestine has been a pivotal one for international law ever since the foundation of the UN in 1945. It remains so today. On July 9, 2004, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) gave its advisory opinion on the Legal Consequences of the Construction of a Wall in Occupied Palestinian Territory. It ruled on some major international law questions concerning the applicability of the Geneva Civilians Convention of 1949 to prolonged occupations, as well as human rights law more generally. It confirmed the illegality of the Israeli civilian settlements established on occupied Palestinian territory and affirmed the continuing relevancy of the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, which it considered an obligation erga omnes. The ICJ did not, however, rule on many of the international law questions pertaining to Final Status Issues which still need to be negotiated between the Israeli and Palestinian leadership if peace is to ever be accomplished in the Holy Land. In this series of essays, some of the most important questions relating to the Israel-Palestine conflict are addressed and reproduced in one complete volume, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of the creation of Israel and the demise of the British mandate of Palestine.
