This book was released on 2016-01-18 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Take this field guide with you when flying a drone or give it to someone you love. Drones, quadcopters, hexacopters, octocopters are fun to play with like guns are fun to play with. They are fast, new to us, use strong electricity, fight winds and novice hands, and have sharp propellers going at 10,000 rpm. Because so "many" mistakes can, "and will" happen anyway, it is best to be prepared ahead of time. Use the checklists contained in the book and let a safety mindset become second nature. Get to the point where it is automatic, like putting a baby in a secure carseat. The book tries to not be patronizing or condescending as almost all rule-books tend to be. If it seems to overly shake its finger at you, it is to save yours. Some safety guidelines come from sources such as my local flying club, the FAA, industry groups, manufacturers, other government bodies and flying club published materials. Others are not to be found written anywhere else. These are perhaps the most valuable because they came from fatherly advice given to the author and from his own experience. I hope all readers will gain more enjoyment and less problematic experiences, and share other ideas with the author via the website DroneSafetyFieldGuide.com or email to [email protected] Sharply discounted copies are available for people teaching classes or instruction sessions regarding drones when ordered in lots of 20. This book was released on 2016-02 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Did you recently get a drone or thinking of getting one? Don't take off without knowing the key Drone Safety checklists. These go well beyond the "400 feet" rule, and have pre-flight steps that you and anyone flying a drone near you should take into account before taking to the air. Whether you are novice Droner, or an experienced Fixed-Wing model aircraft flyer, a parent or guardian, you should know this stuff. The author is a Droner who has crashed many a drone, learned from these, from other sage counsel, from industry sites, manufacturers sites, the FAA, industry groups and seasoned local flying club members. None of them quite gets at the mental preparedness as well as the technical preparedness to launch these flying rocks we call "drones" over the heads of loved ones and innocents alike. :)

Book excerpt: This book is an everything-included approach to understanding drones, creating an organization around using unmanned aircraft, and outlining the process of safety to protect that program. It is the first-of-a-kind safety-focused text book for unmanned aircraft operations, providing the reader with a required understanding of hazard identification, risk analysis, mitigation, and promotion. It enables the reader to speak the same language as any civil aviation authority, and gives them the toolset to create a safety risk management program for unmanned aircraft. The main items in this book break down into three categories. The first approach is understanding how the drone landscape has evolved over the last 40 years. From understanding the military components of UAS to the standards and regulations evolution, the reader garners a keen understanding of where we came from and why it matters for moving forward. The second approach is in understanding how safety risk management in aviation can be applied to drones, and how that fits into the regulatory and legislative environment internationally. Lastly, a brief synopsis of the community landscape for unmanned aircraft is outlined with interviews from important leaders and stakeholders in the marketplace. Drones fills a gap in resources within the unmanned aircraft world. It provides a robust understanding of drones, while giving the tools necessary to apply for a certificate of authorization, enabling more advanced flight operations for any company, and developing safety risk management tools for students and career professionals. It will be a mainstay in all safety program courses and will be a required tool for any and all individuals looking to operate safely and successfully in the United States.

However, many beginners and even more experienced hobbyists find this daunting, as reliable information for construction and programming of unmanned aircraft is often scattered across various sources, and the industry lacks established standards for the safe and efficient operation of small uncrewed aircraft. The Droner's Manual compiles the most important and relevant knowledge into a guide for both beginner and experienced operators. With his expertise as a UAV operator for government, industry, and hobby uses, author Kevin Jenkins offers step-by-step guidance to build, program, test, and fly both multicopters and fixed-wing aircraft for a variety of purposes. This comprehensive manual covers uncrewed system components, aircraft set up, flight controller fundamentals and failsafe features, regulations for recreational and commercial use, the flight testing process, and flight operations. The more than 70 illustrations include detailed schematics and diagrams for the construction of complex systems such as first-person view (FPV) and imaging payloads. You will fly with confidence by following this book's direction on mission planning, checklists, and safe flight operations. Whether you use it to build your first uncrewed aircraft or as a handy reference in the field, The Droner's Manual is an essential for drone builders, pilots, and operators"--

Drones are becoming more relevant and pervasive in our schools and society. Students need to know and understand how drones can be used in STREAM (science, technology, reading, engineering, art, and math), as well as community service and professional opportunities like starting a drone business. The official FAA name for drones is Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) or Vehicles (UAV). For the purposes of this inquiry book, we'll use the more common name of "drone."DEKS are designed to scaffold students through knowledge of drones, safety and resonsible usage, technical knowledge and skills to become a commerical drone operator, intern with a drone business, then build their own drone business in their local community. These questions will help guide the student and teachers through that process. We encourage you to answer these questions with fellow students and teachers, then add your own questions. And find those answers."The question is the answer." We encourage your curiosity, understanding, and ethical actions towards making drones safe and productive tools in your school, community, and world. Being versatile and inexpensive, it has the potentialto offer solutions in a wide range of applications, such as forestry inventory, precision agriculture, flood hazard assessment, pollution monitoring, land survey, and integrity assessment of industrial facilities. Written in the form of a fieldguide, this book explains, in easy-to-understand language, basic concepts ofphotogrammetry and spatial data, and techniques for mosaicking drone photos. The book is not intended as a complete "do-it-yourself" guide, but after reading it, you get a good sense about what hardware and software parts you will need toassemble a drone system on your own. Or if you have the funds, simply purchasea commercial product and follow the steps laid out in the book to design yourapplication. Towards that end, you will find the survey of industrial leaders ofenvironmental drone applications particularly useful. The author of the book, Kike Calvo, is an experienced National GeographicCreative photographer. The explanation of technical jargons is based on his ownexperience and interviews with his colleagues. Some of the questions and answersare included in the book. These are questions you probably would have and Calvohas already got expert answers for you. I find this style of writing quite effective, injecting liveness into what otherwise could be dry reading.UAV photogrammetry is not just about obtaining pretty pictures. To realize itspotential you must "georeference" the pictures, produce an "orthomosaic," andmake "3D point clouds." Read the book to find out what all these mean, and muchmore."Foreword by Xuhui Lee.
