Book excerpt: This monograph offers a state-of-the-art mathematical account of functional integration methods in the context of self-adjoint operators and semigroups using the concepts and tools of modern stochastic analysis. These ideas are then applied principally to a rigorous treatment of some fundamental models of quantum field theory. In this self-contained presentation of the material both beginners and experts are addressed, while putting emphasis on the interdisciplinary character of the subject.

Book excerpt: This book explains the mathematical structures of supersymmetric quantum field theory (SQFT) from the viewpoints of functional and infinite-dimensional analysis. The main mathematical objects are infinite-dimensional Dirac operators on the abstract Boson–Fermion Fock space. The target audience consists of graduate students and researchers who are interested in mathematical analysis of quantum fields, including supersymmetric ones, and infinite-dimensional analysis. The major topics are the clarification of general mathematical structures that some models in the SQFT have in common, and the mathematically rigorous analysis of them. The importance and the relevance of the subject are that in physics literature, supersymmetric quantum field models are only formally (heuristically) considered and hence may be ill-defined mathematically. From a mathematical point of view, however, they suggest new aspects related to infinite-dimensional geometry and analysis. Therefore, it is important to show the mathematical existence of such models first and then study them in detail. The book shows that the theory of the abstract Boson–Fermion Fock space serves this purpose. The analysis developed in the book also provides a good example of infinite-dimensional analysis from the functional analysis point of view, including a theory of infinite-dimensional Dirac operators and Laplacians.

Book excerpt: This proceedings volume contains selected talks and poster presentations from the 9th International Conference on Path Integrals OCo New Trends and Perspectives, which took place at the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems in Dresden, Germany, during the period September 23OCo28, 2007. Continuing the well-developed tradition of the conference series, the present status of both the different techniques of path integral calculations and their diverse applications to many fields of physics and chemistry is reviewed. This is reflected in the main topics in this volume, which range from more traditional fields such as general quantum physics and quantum or statistical field theory through technical aspects like Monte Carlo simulations to more modern applications in the realm of quantum gravity and astrophysics, condensed matter physics with topical subjects such as BoseOCoEinstein condensation or quantum wires, biophysics and econophysics. All articles are successfully tied together by the common method of path integration; as a result, special methodological advancements in one topic could be transferred to other topics."

Book excerpt: This advanced book focuses on ordinary differential equations (ODEs) in Banach and more general locally convex spaces, most notably the ODEs on measures and various function spaces. It briefly discusses the fundamentals before moving on to the cutting edge research in linear and nonlinear partial and pseudo-differential equations, general kinetic equations and fractional evolutions. The level of generality chosen is suitable for the study of the most important nonlinear equations of mathematical physics, such as Boltzmann, Smoluchovskii, Vlasov, Landau-Fokker-Planck, Cahn-Hilliard, Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman, nonlinear Schroedinger, McKean-Vlasov diffusions and their nonlocal extensions, mass-action-law kinetics from chemistry. It also covers nonlinear evolutions arising in evolutionary biology and mean-field games, optimization theory, epidemics and system biology, in general models of interacting particles or agents describing splitting and merging, collisions and breakage, mutations and the preferential-attachment growth on networks. The book is intended mainly for upper undergraduate and graduate students, but is also of use to researchers in differential equations and their applications. It particularly highlights the interconnections between various topics revealing where and how a particular result is used in other chapters or may be used in other contexts, and also clarifies the links between the languages of pseudo-differential operators, generalized functions, operator theory, abstract linear spaces, fractional calculus and path integrals.

The exposition is focused on Choquet's theory of function spaces with a link to compact convex sets. An important feature of the book is an interplay between various mathematical subjects, such as functional analysis, measure theory, descriptive set theory, Banach spaces theory and potential theory. A substantial part of the material is of fairly recent origin and many results appear in the book form for the first time. The text is self-contained and covers a wide range of applications. From the contents: Geometry of convex sets Choquet theory of function spaces Affine functions on compact convex sets Perfect classes of functions and representation of affine functions Simplicial function spaces Choquet's theory of function cones Topologies on boundaries Several results on function spaces and compact convex sets Continuous and measurable selectors Construction of function spaces Function spaces in potential theory and Dirichlet problem Applications

Book excerpt: This book is intended as an introduction to harmonic analysis and generalized Gelfand pairs. Starting with the elementary theory of Fourier series and Fourier integrals, the author proceeds to abstract harmonic analysis on locally compact abelian groups and Gelfand pairs. Finally a more advanced theory of generalized Gelfand pairs is developed. This book is aimed at advanced undergraduates or beginning graduate students. The scope of the book is limited, with the aim of enabling students to reach a level suitable for starting PhD research. The main prerequisites for the book are elementary real, complex and functional analysis. In the later chapters, familiarity with some more advanced functional analysis is assumed, in particular with the spectral theory of (unbounded) self-adjoint operators on a Hilbert space. From the contents Fourier series Fourier integrals Locally compact groups Haar measures Harmonic analysis on locally compact abelian groups Theory and examples of Gelfand pairs Theory and examples of generalized Gelfand pairs

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the mathematical foundations for Feynman's operator calculus and for the Feynman path integral formulation of quantum mechanics as a natural extension of analysis and functional analysis to the infinite-dimensional setting. In one application, the results are used to prove the last two remaining conjectures of Freeman Dyson for quantum electrodynamics. In another application, the results are used to unify methods and weaken domain requirements for non-autonomous evolution equations. Other applications include a general theory of Lebesgue measure on Banach spaces with a Schauder basis and a new approach to the structure theory of operators on uniformly convex Banach spaces. This book is intended for advanced graduate students and researchers.

This book was released on 2017-12-20 with total page 892 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive introduction to Fock space theory and its applications to mathematical quantum field theory. The first half of the book, Part I, is devoted to detailed descriptions of analysis on abstract Fock spaces (full Fock space, boson Fock space, fermion Fock space and boson-fermion Fock space). It includes the mathematics of second quantization, representation theory of canonical commutation relations and canonical anti-commutation relations, Bogoliubov transformations, infinite-dimensional Dirac operators and supersymmetric quantum field in an abstract form. The second half of the book, Part II, covers applications of the mathematical theories in Part I to quantum field theory. Four kinds of free quantum fields are constructed and detailed analyses are made. A simple interacting quantum field model, called the van Hove model, is fully analyzed in an abstract form. Moreover, a list of interacting quantum field models is presented and a short description to each model is given. To graduate students in mathematics or physics who are interested in the mathematical aspects of quantum field theory, this book is a good introductory text. It is also well suited for self-study and will provide readers a firm foundation of knowledge and mathematical techniques for reading more advanced books and current research articles in the field of mathematical analysis on quantum fields. Also, numerous problems are added to aid readers to develop a deeper understanding of the field.
