Book excerpt: This book details the origin and racing history of the Ferrari 333 SP. Uniquely, none of the 333 SP models were entered into races by Ferrari itself. The cars were built specifically for customer use; a purchase price of $900,000 included two spare engines and race technical support supplied by Ferrari engineers. A total of 40 cars were built; the first four by Ferrari, the remainder manufactured by Dallara & Michellotto using Ferrari engines. All of the cars were sold to, and race entries made by, privateer teams. From 1994, the cars contested the IMSA World Sports Car Championship, the United States Road Racing Championship, and the American Le Mans Series, at circuits throughout North America. In 1997, the cars also featured in the Europe-based International Sports Racing Series, as well as the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Two years later, the Doran-Lista team installed a Judd V10 engine into its 333 SP, with the aim of increasing power and improving fuel efficiency. In all, from the 126 races entered, 47 victories were claimed by the 333 SP.

Book excerpt: In this richly illustrated book, Terry O'Neil details the origins of a remarkable racecar, the Ferrari 333 SP. This vehicle heralded the famed automaker's return to professional sports car competitions after an absence of more than twenty years. Introduced on the American racing circuit in 1994, it found instant success and continued to be a major player in numerous races in the US and Europe. Of the 126 races the 333 SP entered, it emerged victorious in nearly fifty, making it one of the most successful sport prototype cars in Ferrari's history. Containing over eight hundred images--many of them never published before--O'Neil's book is a vivid look at this inimitable automobile.

The circuit presented its first professional race in 1957 when NASCAR made its first appearance. Book excerpt: The only full history behind all of Ferrari's most outrageous performance cars. For over 60 years, Ferrari has produced cars that fire the imaginations of car lovers worldwide. Embodying the perfect combination of beauty, performance, exclusivity, and Italian flair, its vehicles have made it the world's most iconic carmaker. Though Ferrari has always produced road cars, the company has first and foremost focused on competition models, such as the handful of cars built in low-number serial production that campaigned on race courses the world over in the 1950s and 60s. In Ferrari Hypercars: The Story of Maranello's Fastest, Rarest Road Cars, author Winston Goodfellow profiles some of Ferrari's top creations--vehicles so startling in their performance capabilities that they surpass modern terms and attain the status of "hypercar." This book begins by reaching back to the 1950s to establish the lineage of hypercars and goes on to showcase the best known examples since the 288 GTO, including the F40, F50, Enzo, and all-new la Ferrari. These cars were collector vehicles from the moment they rolled off the production line, though that was never the reason for their creation; they were made to be driven. A necessary read for any racing fan, Ferrari Hypercars exhaustively traces the history of the company's competition vehicles and establishes its status as a symbol for speed, luxury, and wealth.

Originally published in 1976, this is a complete chronology of the Spyder California (1958-1962) and the ultimate reference work for this model. Profusely illustrated, the author reviews the car in infinite detail and even includes information on its racing accomplishments. There are detailed charts of engine specifications, transmission, axle and chassis specifications by individual engine number and chassis number. There is also a complete listing of chassis numbers and production dates for both the LWB and SWB series and these listings are cross-indexed to the appropriate photographs within the text. An incredible effort by the author, it would be impossible to begin to estimate the hours of research that went into assembling the data and illustrations, truly a monumental accomplishment. The VelocePress edition presented here has benefited from the inclusion of an appendix containing reproductions of a selection of factory assembly sheets. In addition, it has been re-formatted from the original landscape orientation into a more conventional portrait format.
