Free to Be Fabulous shows you how to turn back the clock painlessly in four areas: Beauty and how to make the most of our natural features; Beliefs to make our minds as sharp as possible and show how our attitudes determine our happiness; Body will teach us how to keep everything inside working well; and Behavior will help us relate to others. It takes 21 days to change a habit, so if you alter one thing every three weeks, you can make 17 modifications in a year. Try these suggestions one at a time, and you could become a new person by your next birthday!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though few might think to connect the two figures, Ralph Waldo Emerson was an important influence on Friedrich Nietzsche. Specifically, Emerson played a fundamental role in shaping Nietzsche's philosophical ideas on individualism, perfectionism, and the pursuit of virtue, as well as his critiques of social conditioning, religious dogmatism, and anti-natural morality. With Individuality and Beyond, Benedetta Zavatta offers the first philosophical interpretation of Emerson's influence on Nietzsche based on a sound philological analysis of previously unpublished materials from Nietzsche's private library. Nietzsche's collection reveals numerous copies of Emerson's essays covered with annotations and marginalia as Nietzsche revisited these works throughout his life. Through close-reading, Zavatta casts a new light on the ways in which Emerson's work informed Nietzsche's defining ideas of self-creation, the relation between fate and free will, overcoming morality of customs and achieving moral autonomy, and the "transvaluation" of such values as compassion and altruism. Zavatta organizes these concepts into two main lines of thought: the first concerns the development of the individual personality, or the achievement of intellectual and moral autonomy and original self-expression. The second, on the contrary, concerns the overcoming of individuality and the need to transcend a limited view of the world by continually questioning one's own values and engaging with opposing perspectives. Ultimately, Zavatta clarifies the surprising contributions that Emerson made to 20th century European philosophy. She provides a fresh portrait of Emerson as an American thinker long stereotyped as a naïve idealist disinterested in the social issues of his day. Seen through the eyes of Nietzsche, his acute interpreter, Emerson becomes an incisive cultural critic, whose contributions underpin contemporary philosophy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of the developed world is experiencing an aging population. In America alone, an estimated 45% of the total population is over the age of 40. When this aging demographic is combined with the current concerns over healthcare cost and availability, it is easy to see why more individuals are expressing an interest in staying fit as they grow older. In Fitness at 40, 50, 60 and Beyond, author Michael Spitzer has distilled decades of medical research, diet guidelines, and exercise routines into a complete program that offers an effective and time efficient way for readers to get in far better shape than they thought possible. The book begins with a detailed look at what happens inside the body with the passage of time. Topics covered include the age related aspects of muscle tissue atrophy, slowed metabolism, weight gain, bone loss, heart and lung function capacity, sexual changes, hormone decline, anxiety, depression and more. After examining these effects of aging on the body, the book then details a program of dietary planning and 3-day-per-week exercise regimens that can produce amazing fitness results in as little as 16 weeks. This 432 page book is illustrated with 260 photographs. Every exercise is clearly described with accompanying photos that demonstrate both proper and improper technique. Diagrams, tables, and charts are also used to explain meal plans, recipes. and other principles. At the end of each chapter, summaries are provided that can be copied and carried for quick, easy reference. Although written to address the specific issues that concern older individuals, the diet and exercise advice provided is useful for people of all ages. In this regard, the book may be considered by some as the "definitive new book for fitness and weight loss"
