Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study explores the economic feasibility of the underfloor heating system in North Cyprus. A case study of typical residential apartment 150m to compare the annual cost savings during the winter season between first the apartment depending only on split unit and second use solar energy to heat the underfloor. The initial investment or new life cycle investments are 10000TL with 4 solar collector units. The solar energy is cost effective, therefore as a result of the comparison the annual cost savings were 3260TL.The Solar panels which were used to collect 33.88kWh/day of energy. The feasibility of this study was determined by criteria like Net Present Value NPV, Simple Payback period SPB, Savings-to-Investment Ratio SIR, Internal Rate of Return IRR. NPV which was obtained greater than zero, IRR percentage was larger than the discount rate. The utilize of solar energy reduced the electricity cost and energy consumption.

Book Synopsis Performance Assessment of an Under-floor Heating System Integrated with Solar Energy Under the Weather Conditions of Lebanon by : Patrick Elie Kattan
Download or read book Performance Assessment of an Under-floor Heating System Integrated with Solar Energy Under the Weather Conditions of Lebanon written by Patrick Elie Kattan and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thesis, a new model of under-floor heating systems is developed and validated with published data; the model represents a compromise between the accuracy and the complexity of other models found in the literature, and could be used for transient simulations under several control strategies. In addition, a study is conducted to compare the energy efficiency of under-floor and convective heating systems under equal indoor comfort levels and air quality, for the four climatic zones of Lebanon; the results show that the radiant systems provide 26% reduction in the peak demand, and 30% reduction in the energy consumption. Moreover, an integrated solar/diesel heating system is proposed as the energy source, and design charts are developed for the sizing of the solar system. The solar panels area is then optimized based on a cost analysis in order to minimize the total cost of the system over its life time. Finally, two case studies are conducted for Beirut and Cedars; it was found that the integrated system will pay-back in 12 years in Beirut and in 7 years in Cedars.

Book Synopsis Sustainability in Energy and Buildings by : Robert J. Howlett
Download or read book Sustainability in Energy and Buildings written by Robert J. Howlett and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-11-29 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume represents the proceedings of the Second International Conference on Sustainability in Energy and Buildings, SEB’10, held in the City of Brighton and Hove in the United Kingdom, and organised by KES International. Organised by the KES International organisation, SEB'10 formed a welcome opportunity for researchers in subjects related to sustainability, renewable energy technology, and applications in the built environment to mix with other scientists, industrialists and stakeholders in the field. SEB'10 attracted papers on a range of renewable energy and sustainability related topics and in addition the conference explored two innovative themes:- · The application of intelligent sensing, control, optimisation and modelling techniques to sustainability and · The technology of sustainable buildings. These techniques could ultimately be applied to the intelligent building SEB’10 attracted about 100 submissions from around the world. These were subjected to a two-stage blind peer-review process. With the objective of producing a high quality conference, the best 30% of these were selected for presentation at the conference and publication in this volume of proceedings. The papers in this volume are grouped into the five themes under which they were presented: Building Sustainability, Sustainable Power Generation, Sustainable Energy Policy and Strategy, Energy Monitoring and Management and Solar Energy Technology. These proceedings form an interesting and informative collection of papers, useful as a resource for further research, and a valuable source of information for those interested in the subject.
